Ben's Records Tonight against the Colts

I almost benched Ben in favor of Cam Newton. He and AB may have saved my butt this week. but I'm not out of the woods yet.

You've got people on here saying this game makes him a shoo-in for the HOF and throwing hissy fits when someone points out that one game does not erase all of his bad habits/performances. That's quite different than "giving him his due props".

Well ****, of course ONE game doesn't make him a Hall Of Famer. His entire body of work does. Entry into the Hall is a stats, highlights, records and SB wins thing. Unfortunately for those like you, Ben has all of those things. Hell, Favre had all of the bad habits you Debbie Downers want to point out Ben has ... and guess where he's going.

Wait, what ... ?

A field goal makes it a 13-point lead. That is not a lead a team is likely to lose, but it is possible. A 17-point lead, and the game is done.

This is the Steelers we're talking about. No lead is safe. I didn't breathe easy until there was about 5 minutes left. Normally we'd be throwing a party here if they scored 30 points but yesterday that wouldn't have been enough. Hopefully the offense has learned that they cannot take their foot off the gas, ever.

The defense is getting worse, no pass rush unless all out blitzes, awful pass defense and shoddy tackling.

A good pass rush does not mean a lot of sacks. Luck spent a lot of time on his *** yesterday. He's got a very quick release. I won't argue the secondary and some questionable tackling.

A DHB fumble and a Bryant drop on a slant, take away those two plays and Ben gets this record. Wish we had went for it at the end like they did for AB's dumb catch record, this was a much bigger record to grab.

Against most teams that lead would have been safe. Luck and the colts are much better than the average bear. The defense kept them in check as much as one could hope for. Baring injury Luck maybe the next great qb and if he continues like he has so far will own the record books. He is very similar to Ben but seems to be more of a P Manning type in the film room and with the execution. It is like someone was able to take the best of Ben and Manning and put them into one guy he will be very special before he is done.

With all that said Ben played the game today I always wanted to see from him. He was focused. He stuck with the plays. Lots of great execution, very little playground ball. The ball was crisp and well thrown on nearly every play. If Ben gets into this type of grove for the rest of the season and the rest of the team does as well it will solidify a lot of things. A season or two of play like this will easily secure his legacy as one of the great ones and erase a lot of mediocre seasons. It will make lots of coaches look like really great coaches instead of fools. It will also really help a lot of guys that were role players be considered to have taken the next step.

The problem here, pom pom wavers, is that it's back to reality time. The game is over, and we're not likely to see anywhere near that level of offensive output again, while being left with the same ****** D. This team did not "find it's identity", it did not turn some mythical corner, and it's not going to make a run to the Super Bowl.

I benched him for Matt Ryan this week :( Still won though :)

But for real, what an incredible game. Accurate, crisp throws. On the same page with all the receivers. Hitting guys short, intermediate, deep, sideline, middle of the field. Bell running at will. This offense makes you pick your poison when it's running this way. And it's capable of doing so on a regular basis

I think that a performance that is shy of record books will be fine. Good balance, crisp throws, and quick developing plays. Our offense can do that and put 300 to 350 yards in the air 100 or so on the ground and hang 30 to 35 points on teams every week they will be great and in the playoffs. If the defense has to continually send the house after the qb to mess up the other teams offense so be it. It does not matter if a blitz is needed on every play there are 11 guys on defense we are allowed to use them all.

There are still things to improve on. The best thing I heard from Ben was he was not satisfied with his performance as part of the offense. He said he left some plays out there. If he is willing to keep trying for the perfect game that is great and it will spread to the rest of the team. The fact that all of them are trying to do better even though they have gotten better is a huge thing to me. It says a lot about the team beginning to be a team and not a bunch of guys. Synergy is a wonderful thing.

What i don't understand is how 500 yards 6tds 82% completion does not give a perfect qb rating.....

Al Bundy once scored four touchdowns in one game. Ben > Al Bundy

So far this year Ben is in the top 10 or better (mostly top 5) in most relevant QB stats. He's second in yards, completions and attempts; fourth in completion percentage, yards per game, and QB rating; and seventh in TDs and yards per attempt. The guy is having a monster season no matter what the skirt ruffling, moaning *** fishwives have to say about his "flaws";as if there is a perfect QB.

Name a team left on the schedule other than New Orleans that you could even imagine needing that exact type of performance to beat. Further, I don't remember anyone saying this was a Super Bowl team. Last, how would you, a message board poster like the rest of us, know what this team did or did not find out about itself yesterday? It's hyperbole like this that makes it hard to take your opinions too seriously. But hey, it's a message board and you and the Gloom Squad are free to post what you like. Even if it's fluff and drivel based upon pure conjecture.

I loved the performance yesterday, but it was the result of a total team effort and the coaches being completely prepared. And most likely the coaches were a huge part of that. When the coaches AREN'T prepared the Steelers look like ***.

They can just as easily lose to Tampa Bay if they don't put in the work each week. So, it doesn't matter if they look like world-beaters one week if the coaching staff and the players start slacking off and thinking themselves unbeatable. They'll get their ***** handed to them by the Ravens if they don't bring every bit of preparation and physicality that they can muster next Sunday.

On the other hand, as I said last week, if Tomlin and the other coaches can manage to keep their noses to the grindstone and put together another solid week of coaching and if we can somehow match the physicality of the Ravens. (Let's face it, that's what it's going to come down to. You don't out-smart or out-cute the Ravens. You simply beat the **** out of them and see who is standing at the end of 60 minutes.) If we can beat them at home next week we are in a position to fight for a couple more games down the stretch going into the bye week where we are actually in a strong position going into the playoffs.

Ya. I said it.

Playoffs.

However, lose to the Rats and you're likely not in the playoff picture at all. Too many division losses.

It's hard to tell at times if the defense was just horrible or the Steelers were just that good. We know Ben is a very good QB so I'm not taking anything away from him. I just wonder if Indy thought they had this in the bag before the kickoff? Or are they over rated? Bad game? We'll see.

I'm not willing to say Indy is over rated, but, I said last week that their 5 game win streak included only one team that was looking playoff worthy at that time (Balt.). Their other wins came against Jax, Ten, Hou, and a Cin team that was in a bit of a free fall prior to this week. At that time, their record against what I considered to be playoff caliber teams (Phi, Den, Bal) was 1 - 2. I just didn't think they were the juggernaut that everyone was making them out to be. Regardless, it was a good team win, from the coaches on down. We will need similar effort to get more wins before I'd even think this team was consistent enough to talk about the "P" word.

Yeah its hard to say. I dont care how many yards ben had prior to this game he has not been in the groove. This game he was extremely sharp with all passes. Obviously he played well and the line played great, but the indy D sure did not come to play. I think we have to chalk it up to Indy not being prepared / shocked. I am pretty sure all of us were also shocked at the near flawless offensive execution. If they can do something even remotely similar next game, then I might believe they turned the corner. I remember after the Carolina game everyone thought we had turned the corner and then went on to play horrible the next couple games. Anything is possible with this team we could get shut out or we could score 50 points.....I feel for anyone who bets on the steeler's games.

The DHB play did count towards Ben's passing yardage. 16 yards.

As far as Ben is concerned: Great game, wonderful career in Pittsburgh, but as much as I hate to say it...they should have traded him at the deadline. His stock will never be higher, and as bad as this defense is currently, they are not going to win another Super Bowl with or without him. Love the guy, but his next contract is going to cripple this team for a long time.
