BILLS vs Steelers preseason gameday thread

Beautiful weather and it's the only home preseason game. Not surprising there was such a big attendance.
The fan excitement is different this year. Training camp crowds were huge, the biggest I've seen in years. The crowd at the game tonight matched some regular season crowds from last year. I think everyone has a sense for the young talent and want to watch this team grow and develop.

The offense has more quick strike scores this preseason than the last two years combined.

Kenny looked sharp once again. The TD pass to Freiermuth shows how much the two are on the same page.

Warren > Najee. Save me the bad offensive line or injured foot talk. Warren finds the hole, hits it and gets yards. Harris runs into blockers and is lucky to pick up 4 YPC. If Harris was in, that's a 12-15 yard gain.

The WR group should be good this year. Robinson really rounds out the top 3 and Austin has impressed. Austin's break off the line on the slant route shows how tough he is to defend if you don't get a hand on him.

Alex Highsmith looked terrific and showed at every level--pass rush, run stop, pass coverage. True all-around linebacker.

It's early, but Nick Herbig has been the most impressive member of the rookie class. I wasn't sure if they'd leave him outside but I'm glad they did. He's picked up so much from Watt and Highsmith in a partial offseason. Buffalo's first-team offense had trouble with him and he's just been a beast on the field.

I agree… I wonder why they haven’t tried to move herbig inside… we ain’t got much inside anyway highsmith, watt, and herbig could really be tough to block to say nothing of Ironhead2 and the crew up front. The possibles on defense and the headaches for opposing qbs are endless!!

With his pass rush being so good already there isn't a chance moving him inside. If he can continue this into the regular season it will transform the sub packages compared to what the Steelers had in recent years, especially factoring in Golden.

Steelers have three capable veterans inside. I think this will show to be an upgrade over last seasons ho hum lineup.

While he didn't catch a TD in the redzone last night, he did draw 2 PI calls in the endzone. Washington has earned playing time in the regular season in the redzone. He is going to be fun to watch catching balls, drawing PI's, or even being a decoy. He is a must to be on the field.

We're averaging 27 points FOR and 16 points against.

We're winning - over the past 2 games, that is...

The most important point/stat in my mind:

Kenny Pickett and the starting offense has been on the field for three possessions. Pickett is 9-11, 113 yards, 2 TD's, and the offense has 3 TD's on three possessions.

Does that matter a lot? No, it's preseason. Defenses are not game-planning for these games, the starters play little (if any). We talkin' 'bout practice, man.

However, most of us have had good coaches who tell us, "Practice doesn't make perfect; PERFECT practice makes perfect." The overall crispness of the offense is impressive.

Warren is not better than Najee. Fact.

He's a great compliment but let's be truthful. Teams know. Coaches know. We all know. 95% of the time he's in the backfield - it's a run. The man has accumulated over 1000 yards years in a row behind a porous OL, thru injury and he still looks to destroy an opponent or over them.

I love Warren. He's a great RB with the wheels to take it to the house. Najee has never been that.

Batman and Robin should be a force to be recond with and now everyone knows...

Watching the replay. That TD was Warrens first touch of the game. Nice first effort.

That throw to Muth was amazing. Led Muth the right way. It was just champion stuff.

As a Steelers fan, I still flinch when I see yellow laundry on the field. It's strange to see it go for us.

I keyed in on Green on onffense and Herbig on Defense. Everything you all said was true. Although, Green is a mad genius. He lets his rusher in on run plays to the outside to get him behind the play.

Mitch can't lead his receivers in mid to long range passes.

McFarland is scrappy. I like that. He is a guy who doesn't quit.

Josh Allen seemed very frustrated. Good.

I'm laughing at Doritos for putting a big ad campaign built on the women's soccer commie team, and they get washed out early. Losers.

Charlie Batch is a great Steeler. Love the guy.

Special teams. Wow. They do this all year, and we have an ace in the hole.

The goal line effort just before the half was garbage. I know we scored, but a high level team needs to be able to punch that in. It was saved by a penalty.

Heyward came up big a couple of times in this game. When you need something done, he wants to be on the field.

I like having Mitch and Mason as back ups, but there is no question that KP8 is the man.

This cracked me up. This was right as they were carting that Bill's player off the field. Dude looks like he's afraid to talk to his Karen girlfriend. Right after this, he looked towards her out of the corner of his eyes. Couldn't get that pic.

Uptight women. No thanks.Screenshot_20230820_071137_MeWe.jpg

Herbig is fun to watch. His first step off the snap is amazingly fast. He’s by the left tackles shoulder before the opposing LT has time to really react. His size may also be his advantage because the tackle needs to adjust figure out how to adjust to him after taking on Highsmith. He’s also wirey

Besides people saying Najee is a beast, what has he done to earn it? Poor production relative to his peers in similar situations, has rarely taken over a game, is not a big-play threat. If he wasn’t a first-round pick and didn’t play at Alabama would you have the same assessment?

Yes. The dude is a good RB and a good person.

To be fair you yourself even admitted Warren is the more explosive back.

I like Najee but if you have a choice of A or B and B is more explosive how could you not take option B? Both are good persons and good RBs. We don't have to choose obviously but if we did I would have a hard time taking a less explosive RB. I think ultimately both will contribute and have their moments. But I could see a scenario where Naj is the third down back and Warren the lead. I can't rule out that being a more effective option. Just an unknown but not a far fetched scenario...

Just don't over play who is o e or two. Play them both a lot. They both block, both catch, Najee is a bigger dude Jaylen is faster. We don't have to pit players against eachother like it's FF and we need him on the field. If it becomes clear that one us better he can get more touches.

Definitely you play them both off each other. Steelers seemed to do that well last year. No more over feeding one. There will be moments both should be able to be leaned on as they bring different running styles to the table.
