Blowing a 23 point lead is inexcusable!!!!

We already know what category youre in (Hater Platinum Club Member), based on reading your posts....you have a very negative outlook for this team, you hate the coach...we get it.

Im willing to bet if we start out 6-2 youre still gonna launch **** projectiles. But then again, it dont cost nothin to hate. So hate on.

If we are 6-2 I will be happy and admit that I was wrong. Facing the Browns 2x, the Jaguars, Bucs, and Texans in that stretch should give us 5 of those wins. But based on what I saw on Sunday I will guess that we are not 6-2. Heck, if we are 4-4 I will be moderately surprised and yet disappointed.

Blowing leads seemed to be the week one theme. However the other teams that blew big leads did so against good offenses. We blew ours to the Browns. What really concerns me is that they did not have their top rb, top wr, and they lost their best receiving TE to injury.

I saw some things from mt that looked good in the game. The first score the team stalled but was able to stay in field goal range and get 3 instead of 0. At the end of the 2nd quarter clock management was good and they were able to get 3 more in the past they generally were more than likely to miss the chance. The team played hard and looked like they were going to run away with the game.

Third quarter looked like same old mt with the wtf look on his face. Thought to myself mt you are not in the game the game is running you. Fourth quarter there is a spark and it looks like the bleeding may stop. We are tied with a chance to win but nearly go into overtime because of poor clock management.

I have been very disappointed in mt but have to say I am seeing improvement in him. He still has quite a ways to go to be a good head coach but he is at least going in the right direction.

One might say that the fake punt where it was recognized that the gunner was left uncovered was good coaching. Or just great player recognition "in spite of" the coach...

I dunno. I've learned from this board that what the players do on the field is pretty much unrelated to coaching. Maybe that's just when the players screw up.

One person can make a play, it takes coaching to recognize the situation so all players are on the same page. It's a coached situation by the special teams coach.

and I've gleaned from this board that anything and everything the players do or do not do is directly attributed to Tomlin and Colbert. except for the positives. that's all on Cowher.

I guess I have seen the opposite. When the players do well, it is in spite of the coaching staff. When they **** up is when the coaches are to blame.

I think the sp team play was do to coaching. Although not called for this instance by the coaches but the players on the field responded the way they were taught. That = good coaching.

My knock on mt was his inexperience for the job. He started with a team mostly intact and one year away from winning the superbowl. I think it has taken longer for him to get the experience needed for the job than the roonys wanted but they will wait for him to finish his development.

Yeah. My point is that I see it both ways. A fumble is Tomlin's fault, a successful fake punt should get Tomlin the credit.

My contention is that good teams are coached to not screw up nearly as often as we do. Penalties are still an issue, brainfarts are still an issue, flat performance is still an issue.

My take on the fake punt is that Wing didn't get the call at all. It had to have been called up front between Golden, the C and Blake. Either that or Wing is a 'slow-blinker'. If you watch the play, he is a TOTAL spectator. He doesn't raise his arms or go through his punting motions at all, as would be taught on any fake punt...he just stands there, arms down...watching.

You blamed Cowher. You blame Tomlin. Where is this perfect coach without any warts that will make this all happen? Maybe you will get a guy that will for a bit, but sooner or later players get old, retire, get hurt, and all the sudden you ain't the genius everybody thought you were. Does that mean because other guys will have warts that Tomlin should keep his job? No. However, they will have issues. They may be different or even some of the same ones. I think perfection is expected, and you will never find it among humans.

Do you ever hold the players responsible? Do they have any part in this? When they miss a block or a tackle, is that something Tomlin did, or Cowher before him? I just find that thought process childish and simple. I read many of your other arguments, and they don't appear to be that way. But in this I feel you and others who think that way are thinking like 14 year olds.

Until they allow defense to be played again, I am afraid this is what you will see, unless you have a lucky stretch like Seattle. Better get on board offensively and try to score as much as you can ever game. Winning with class is out the window. Run it up.

Wow. You are all over the place. I never said to fire Tomlin. I never said I wanted perfection. I said I held them to the same standard. Then you go and just blow it out of proportion. Talk about being obtuse. Tomlin is ultimately responsible for the team. It's up to Rooney to decide when Tomlin's time is up. That's not my concern. BTW I blamed Cowher for not wanting to draft Ben. He loved Rivers and when he wasn't there he wanted Andrews.

Also I hold players responsible as well. Have you not seen me talking about individual players? Seriously? You keep lumping in all your generalities and totally ignoring what I'm saying. Then you blame the NFL/Refs for the decline of the Steelers... yet I'm obtuse? wow... just wow. Do the NFL/Refs not get the same consideration as the coach and players? Do you want them to be perfect? See how easy that is?

Holy **** what happened to this board? This used to be kind of fun like a neighborhood bar where you could throw a few barbs around without getting killed...apparently not any more.

No, it is the constant pissing and moaning. It is incessant. What does one deduce from that? I think it would be fair to deduce you would rather have another coach. If that is not the case, I apologize.

As per the players, maybe you do, with the caveat that whatever fuckup they did was somehow a result of the coaching. I've coached and also been coached as I am sure you have. Sometimes no matter how much you go over something or say something, the players just **** it up. I did it to my coaches on occasion.

Well, you ignored what I was trying to say about the let up thing. Tit for tat I guess.

That's called "being a realist".

"We've struggled at times.........started the season out slow last year, battled some injuries but came on at the end of the season and just missed the playoffs. Trying to integrate some new parts and put it all together. Its gonna take time and thru it all, im sure ill be frustrated, but im hoping we finally get it all together this year. **** doesnt happen overnight in this league." ~~Realist

"We ****** suck....We lose to basement dwelling teams, we are never prepared...we win inspite of our idiot coach, he sucks at time management, hes a fraud, clueless and an idiot and only got hired based on the stupid Rooney Rule. None of his players are good enough to match anything Cowher developed...... Ill be surprised if we win 6 games. We are wasting our franchise future HOF on this POS squad. We're gonna get wiped by the good teams this year and hopefully in time the coaching staff is turned over." ~~ Pessimist and Hater

I've never said anybody wasn't coached well enough. You've never heard that from me. I also understand the let up after a huge lead. It happens in all sports at all levels. I just disagreed with the use of a game under Noll to compare with Sunday's game. Noll's defense didn't give up one single point in the 3rd QTR. The game was never in doubt. He used it as a teaching moment. Sunday you had a team come back after clearly making half time adjustments and kicking the Steelers D all over the field. They tied the game and could have won it. It was an issue of scheme not just a let down. That's the difference.

I was very coachable in school. I just wasn't very talented. I was a good basketball player but I was never going pro. My issue with the Steelers isn't individual coaching. My issue is drafting players to fit what you do and overall talent or lack thereof. There is nothing LeBeau can do for Jones at this point. It's up to Jones to know the playbook and execute it. It's up to him not get pushed around the QB by 10 yards. That's on the player. Which is why I've criticized Jones and others.

In my opinion, a let up is a let up, regardless of the circumstances. You have to guard against that. I agree with you as well that scheme is an issue. Here is the thing though:

What if the Steelers would have won that game going away. Let's say the game ends 34-10 or something. I would argue that there would be a lot less pissing and moaning on this board. But this is key, the issues would still be there, waiting to be exposed by another team. So many people are really reacting to the style of the victory. I object to that.

This could be teachable, unless the Steelers really do not have the talent to defend. That may be, I think the jury is out on that yet. I object to the idea also that this is a settled issue, as so many see it. We will see. To be honest, I am happy they got the win, and the game turned out the way it did. I contend they have problems, and winning 34-10 would cause them to ignore those problems and think everything is peachy. Maybe they can turn it around. Maybe not. But I would rather have a situation in which you know you have issues instead of one in which you can fool yourself.

Well, one teachable moment should be that the veteran leaders (Troy, Timmons) shouldn't have been "surprised" or whatever it was Troy said about the switch in the Brown's offense. Maybe, they were surprised that Hoyer could run it that well?

In any event, after one series of that bullshit, they should have been riding the younger players ***** on the sidelines. Definitely, after the second time. I don't remember the TV showing the sidelines where that was going on.

Very true ^^^
Anyone would have expected the up-tempo to catch them off-guard...for a series. After that, there is no excuse. Instead, we saw the vets 'trying to do more' which made things worse. They have to play disciplined in this system and they were anything but that. Over-pursuit is worse than getting there late.

The OPS post is funny but true. The good news is despite the meltdown, we found a way to win, a refreshing change from the last 3 years worth of season openers. IF this team is in contention at the end of the season, at least we won't hear "if we only would have won the first game".

Like many posters, I shut off the TV after the first game popped some malox (don't have any Iron City) and closed my eyes and said "Thank you God!"

We have to face reality. We have a mix of older players and very young players. Some of the older ones are slipping (sorry Ike it's true) but a lot of the younger ones need to be battle tested.

On a positive note, Ben,generally looked in command and solid. Bell, despite his stupidity recently, played VERY WELL. Antonio Brown and Marcus Wheaton have stepped up.

This Raven's game will really test this Steeler team. The Ravens are at home, lost to the Bengals at home, smell blood with a porous Stiller defense.

Gotta keep the pedal to the metal for the entire 60 minutes to eke out a win. A loss will not be fatal BUT a win will go a LONG way to giving this team confidence.

The defense got it done on the last 2 drives. The drive before, a penalty kept it alive. The sky isn't falling.
