Brazilian congress votes to impeach president Dilma Rousseff

bri05_a.jpg

Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff suffered a crushing defeat on Sunday as a hostile and corruption-tainted congress voted to impeach her.

Watched by tens of millions at home and in the streets, the vote – which was announced deputy by deputy – saw the conservative opposition comfortably secure the two-thirds majority needed to advance the impeachment to the upper house.

Once the senate agrees to consider the motion, which is likely within weeks, Rousseff will have to step aside for 180 days and the Workers party government, which has ruled Brazil since 2002, will be at least temporarily replaced by a centre-right administration led by vice-president Michel Temer.

Should be a fun Olympics coming up in Rio...riots in the streets, ocean too polluted to boat or swim in.....

Socialism isn't what wrecked Brazil's economy. Protectionism is.

The same protectionist tax scheme that's currently being proposed by Donald Trump.

Bullshit - it was socialism and corruption - just like crooked Hillary wants to bring

Get off Breitbart's dick and read something for a change.
Fixed it for you. Spike & Co have turned on Fox News since they don't bow down to Trump.

Brazil’s economy falls sharply amid deepening political crisis

Brazil’s Workers Party
(Partido dos Trabalhadores—PT) government announced last week that the country’s gross domestic product had plunged by 1.9 percent in the second quarter alone, officially inaugurating a period of recession. While the downturn had been anticipated, it was far steeper than predicted. The sharp contraction has ominous implications not only for the Brazilian working class, but for all of Latin America, where Brazil has become a primary source of trade and investment.

The severe economic downturn has developed under conditions of mounting political crisis, driven in large measure by the deepening scandal surrounding the multibillion-dollar bribes and kickback schemes exposed at Petrobras, the state-owned oil company and Brazil’s largest industrial entity.

The PSOL (Socialism and Liberty Party), formed by expelled legislators and other PT dissidents in 2004, has advocated a set of reformist demands which it has explicitly identified with the actions taken in Greece by the government of Syriza, which stabbed the Greek working class in the back by capitulating to all of the austerity demands of the European Union.

Covering their left flank is the PSTU (United Socialist Workers Party), the Morenoite tendency in Brazil, which has appealed to the PSOL to break with the Rousseff government and unite with them, the Stalinist Brazilian Communist Party and sections of the trade union bureaucracy to form a “class” alternative. Such a formation would represent, like Syriza, the interests of more privileged sections of the middle class, which are hostile to those of the Brazilian working class.

Two Dead After Rio 2016 Olympic Legacy Cycle Path Collapses

Two people have died after a 50-meter section of a recently completed cycle path built as part of Rio de Janeiro’s preparations to host the 2016 summer Olympics collapsed.

The 44.7 million reais ($12.7 million) cycle path, which only opened in mid-January, was hit by a strong wave before it collapsed while five people were taking a ride on Thursday

Brazil's Senate votes to remove president Dilma Rousseff from power

Bazil's Senate has voted to remove leftist President Dilma Rousseff from power and subject her to an impeachment trial

Brazil's senators have voted to put President Dilma Rousseff on trial over allegations that she illegally manipulated the budget to hide a growing fiscal deficit.

Latin America's largest country is now facing its worst recession in decades, a multibillion-dollar corruption scandal, a health crisis caused by the Zika virus, and the prospect of hosting the Rio Olympics in August without a stable government in place.

Sounds like a lovely shithole

A Brazilian soccer legend gave an ominous warning to fans considering traveling to Rio for the Olympics

Brazilian soccer legend Rivaldo offered a foreboding message over Instagram to fans considering traveling to Rio de Janeiro for this summer's Olympics: Stay away.

"Things are getting uglier here every day," Rivaldo posted to his Instagram "I advise everyone with plans to visit Brazil for the Olympics in Rio — to stay home. You'll be putting your life at risk here ... Only God can change the situation in our Brazil."

Meanwhile, the Zika virus remains a worry for visitors. Two sewage-infested bodies of water (Guanabara Bay and the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon) have already made visiting athletes sick, and though officials are working to clear trash from the water and its shores, the risk of infection or sickness may be still inevitable come August.

THE BBC News is very good. Sometimes I listen to it, and think, why is this not shown on the news in the USA.

In case you missed it, Obama apologized in Japan for the USA dropping the atomic bomb on them, saying we were wrong despite the fact Japan started the war, committed genocide against the Chinese ( In the millions ) , and refused to surrender.

I dont like Bomma, but he did NOT apologize to Japan.
which surprised me.

He said he's sorry for shooting at their planes in Pearl Harbor too. Or so I heard...

I've said before, I'll say it again: Brazil is a ******* swill pit.
