I know guys he was phenomenal at Bama but man he is really tiny for the NFL.
I know Kyler Murray is small but this kid looks slight in build and just flat out tiny.
Do you guys think he can succeed in the NFL? I just don’t think with his size it was worth the risk with the number one pick.

he has a great arm, reads the defense very well and has great anticipation.

but, none of that changes the fact that the closest guys to him on every play will be nearly twice his size. Much stronger, much faster and much more violent than he faced in college. I don't suspect he'll have a long career, but don't expect it to be Tua-short, either.

Great young man....country needs more like him.

I think his size will be an issue in the NFL.

It's not that he's only short. He is under 5'11". His combine hight was 5'10 1/8". It is that his body thin and he already was hurt in college. He played in the 180's if you believe the Alabama sites. No such QB will last in the NFL that size ( Or has played since the 1980's ) and Young is going to have to change his free wheeling style of play which worked surrounded by Alabama talent in college. He did not run at the combine or pro day like some other some guy named Harris, who you guess it also played at Alabama. I think he is a 4.65 to 4.7 type of player who will not run for many yards in the NFL and he better not given his weight and build + injury history.

His arm and accuracy are fine, but I want to see him complete more plays under center which his height make it difficult to do. I think he will be a first round disappointment. The Panthers are suckers for taking him #1 over all.

In college he is facing maybe 3-6 NFL type players on the opposing “D”, that fact helps his success in college.

Against a full NFL team, things change partially due to the speed of the opposing players, but also the NUMBER of Pro’s. VS. what he is use to seeing.

His size won’t allow the beating he may take, taller players block his view, wish him well though.

Salute the nation

Can't force him to grow ............. It's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog

Agree by prototypical sizes he is small ................ but there have been small dudes that put together pretty good careers .......... Drew Brees, Russel Wilson to name a couple

He is a good decision maker and prepares himself for opponents ....... it is a violent game but rules have been adapted over the years to protect QBs ....Terry Bradshaw was ragdolled several times in his career.... does not matter how big you are ..........everyone can get injured ......... it is up to the team to surround him with talent and up to the QB to get the ball out on time, choose to run for your life or throw it away and live for the next down ....

Good young man ........ with all the douchebags that make it to the NFL and do stupid dumbass shyt ......... I would rather root for a guy who actually treats the position he is in with the respect that he does

Not saying he is Drew Brees .....but he is a calm, cool and collected QB that is pretty damn accurate .............. time will tell ........... good luck to him

Drew Brees and Russel Wilson could take a hit though.

Not saying Young can’t but, the nfl is a faster, harder game than college. I like the kid, he does carry himself with respect.

but his small frame may shorten his career. Such as life, even the douchebags make more out of the league than the nice guy. Good luck to him

With him, it really isn’t the height… its the frame. Russell Wilson is small but stocky… i don’t doubt for a second his brain can process tge reads from behind a larger mass of humanity… some small guys can do that… its that bulked up he will be playing at what? 190’s tops… he isn’t going to have the padding to survive the pummeling for too long

He has long arms and large hands, great vision and slipperiness when it comes to taking direct hits

Never had any injury concerns above the normal player in a conference filled with the future stars of the NFL

I have zero concerns about his size until it actually proves to be a legitimate concern

Im all for letting the young man play dictate his success or not...

But as a GM for a National Football League team....they need to determine if "the juice is worth the squeeze"...

Taking him at number one overall is extremely ballsy and ....in the old days is called..."sticking your neck wayyyy out there"

I think size overrated. Ben was huge but still had a lot of passes knocked down Ben was also a tree though and could shake off guys like no QB i have seen. I do not believe size is necessarily related to injury though. It all just depends how/ where you get hit. Jon Jones maybe the greatest MMA fighter ever has toothpicks for legs and he outgrappled a stocky olympic wrestler 2x. Everyone's body is different. Some guys regardless of size just seem to hold up better

The difference between mma and football is that football is a collision sport. Being bulky at certain positions help.

Being stocky in mma doesn’t mean much. Fighting for combat is learning how to generate power, what Jon Jones lacks in muscle size he makes up for with connective tissue strength. Completely different.

Being bulky in the nfl helps the body to absorb those collisions. Tua is an example of recent. Look at guys who were small framed like Johnny Knox in chicago a few years back.

It's all going to come down to how well the Panthers protect him in the sense of a good OL and weapons that can get open quickly. If he can also use that quick read talent to get rid of the ball and avoid a traffic jam in the backfield, he should stick around the league for a while. And if he takes off running he should learn how to slide early, or find the sideline quick-like.

I have meet Tua. He is a little shorter that me, about 6 feet and weights around 215 pounds lbs. However he is much thicker than Young. Tua can't take a hit. Young's even slighter and last year played at oh, about 190 lbs. IMO,Young is going to need to learn how to take a fall in the NFL. Tua is currently.

BRING IT

Will depend how good he is at slipping hits and getting rid of tte ball. If he isn't he will not last to end of rookie deal. A lot was given up and he was first overall and if KP was in this draft I'd take him over Young.

The new NFL gives these little guys a shot. Even Drew Brees was almost out of the NFL after messing up his shoulder after getting sacked. But the QB protection rules started going into effect and likely turned a short career into a hall of fame career. For me a guy no matter what position would have to check all the boxes for me to draft him that high. He didn't. Good for us as it pushed better prospects down the draft for us.

At certain positions being smaller has no effect. Small receivers, safeties can play their positions in a smart manner and minimize big collisions. Being tall helps for red zone, possession type receivers but the Wes Welker types have shown otherwise.

Same with being a safety. Bob Sanders, Ed Reed, even Deion Sanders as a corner. Just depends how you can utilize that noggin.

QB. Helps to be tall to see over the line. As long as you can minimize big hits. You have a chance.

I think he can be fine nowadays with how they protect the quarterback. There will be a lot on the shoulders of their offensive coordinator to come up with a good scheme for him. It’s doable though. I don’t expect him to have a particularly long career but I think he can give you 6-8 really good years if they scheme properly for him.

But boy if you are gonna make a downfield throw its just numbers. You are gonna get smashed.
