Bryce Young’s Size

I think he'll put up good numbers, but never do anything significant in the playoffs.

He did not run at the combine or pro day like some other some guy named Harris, who you guess it also played at Alabama.

Bryce Young's real last name is Harris?

Holy ****, that changes everything!

He has long arms and large hands, great vision and slipperiness when it comes to taking direct hits

Never had any injury concerns above the normal player in a conference filled with the future stars of the NFL

I have zero concerns about his size until it actually proves to be a legitimate concern

Slipperiness is a good thing, in many way other than football as well.

Walter Payton ran a ton of yards but never really took direct hits, slipperiness extended his career immensely.

I never wish / want / injury on any player, but it is the NFL.

I do wish the kid a healthy career. Sucks seeing Tua taking a beating. Hopefully Young can make decisions to minimize those collisions on him.

He'll be really good until he gets injured. Young has a slight frame and I don't think he'll be able to take many hits. Only way he stays healthy is if he plays like Brees, pure pocket passer who gets rid of it quickly. But a big part of his game is mobility and extending plays.

We saw Big Ben take a beating and it started to catch up to him and take a toll and ben is huge. He had to transition to a pocket passer only. Young does not have elite arm talent. If he's a pocket passer, he may be just a decent starter and not the special player you draft #1.

If guys get hit and land on their shoulder wrong I dont think size is going to help that. Not sure size helps w/ concussions either. Tua was the poster boy last year, but that was on the team / NFL for clearing him to go back in the first time. If a 250 pound guy cracks you in the head or your head bounces off the turf there is a good chance you are going to be concussed regardless of size. I think an interesting study would be a breakdown of each position and do a size vs games missed for injury see if there is a legit trend or people just assume smaller guys get injured more. Not really sure if its possible though because for QBs you will have a ton of guys in the 220 range and a very small sample for guys in like the 180 range.

Im all for letting the young man play dictate his success or not...

But as a GM for a National Football League team....they need to determine if "the juice is worth the squeeze"...

Taking him at number one overall is extremely ballsy and ....in the old days is called..."sticking your neck wayyyy out there"
This ain’t the old days
The league has been pussified
QBs are protected (unless you’re a giant like Ben or Cam)

He’ll be fine just like Brees, Wilson, and the other slight stature QBs who get even more protection in the pussified league

It’s just a narrative by writers who have 2-3 months on their hands and pick at every little perceived “flaw”

Someone please show legitimate stats where starting QBs 6’ and under are indeed more injury prone than the bigger prototypes say 6’3 and up, I sure couldn’t find any correlating stats to back the talking heads and their narrative

It’s a different league and the prototype QB traits are changing as well to match the game of two hand touch

I wonder how the injury data stacks up using “cheating ****-ers” type data? How much the league protects said “cheating ****-ers” and finally if actually being punished for cheating extends their careers………….

I know guys he was phenomenal at Bama but man he is really tiny for the NFL.
I know Kyler Murray is small but this kid looks slight in build and just flat out tiny.
Do you guys think he can succeed in the NFL? I just don’t think with his size it was worth the risk with the number one pick.
You'd be wrong. He's gonna be amazing... closest talent to Mahomes that we've ever seen.

It's not that he's only short. He is under 5'11". His combine hight was 5'10 1/8". It is that his body thin and he already was hurt in college. He played in the 180's if you believe the Alabama sites. No such QB will last in the NFL that size ( Or has played since the 1980's ) and Young is going to have to change his free wheeling style of play which worked surrounded by Alabama talent in college. He did not run at the combine or pro day like some other some guy named Harris, who you guess it also played at Alabama. I think he is a 4.65 to 4.7 type of player who will not run for many yards in the NFL and he better not given his weight and build + injury history.

His arm and accuracy are fine, but I want to see him complete more plays under center which his height make it difficult to do. I think he will be a first round disappointment. The Panthers are suckers for taking him #1 over all.
Thanks Walter...

Drew Brees and Russel Wilson could take a hit though.

Not saying Young can’t but, the nfl is a faster, harder game than college. I like the kid, he does carry himself with respect.

but his small frame may shorten his career. Such as life, even the douchebags make more out of the league than the nice guy. Good luck to him
Young played in the SEC. You know personally that the talent level in our conference is elite.

He's taken hits before. And I highly doubt that he won't add muscle and bulk over the next 2 years.

Bryce will be fine...

It's all going to come down to how well the Panthers protect him in the sense of a good OL and weapons that can get open quickly. If he can also use that quick read talent to get rid of the ball and avoid a traffic jam in the backfield, he should stick around the league for a while. And if he takes off running he should learn how to slide early, or find the sideline quick-like.
Carolina had a top 3 running game last year. They have a very good OL...

I don’t see it! Much too small and I don’t just mean height. This guy has a tiny frame that’s going to be hard for him to stay healthy at this level.
I think he has a great attitude and demeanor and will work hard but will that be enough to compensate for his small stature? We shall see!

Yeah so was Barry Sanders, those guys were a joy to watch. Bryce to me will become a modern day Fran Tarkenton

lmao
I was gonna go there too but didn’t want to name the sorry *** piece of **** cheater and give him any publicity 😂

Take it easy, Spanky... you're on the come up...
Back to back championships. They look to be top Dawg at the moment.

As far as I know they’re still the champs until knocked off otherwise. Much like Bama can talk because they are constantly in contention.

SEC football runs college now

The nfl is still a different breed. The SEC does a good job At preparing them, but we’re going to have to wait til the conclusion of next season to revisit this.

Thanks Walter...
You know you aren't far off. Cooch took the old school passed draftnik Joel Buchsbaum name and uses it as his username on the Steelersplanet. Unlike cooch, Joel was an extreme draftnik that had a library of info packed inside his cranium. Being the polar opposite of Joel, I still find it odd he stole that name to use.

Speaking of odd they still list Joel's cause of death as of natural causes. But the guy was only 48.

I know you’ve watched his career at Bama, but to anoint him this crown…….. seems a little early.

I trust your judgement, but I think I’ll have to witness a little actual NFL play before I fall in-line with yaz on this.

Cheers

The frame is what I'd be concerned about. There's going to be a 315 lb defensive lineman that falls on top of him, get a 15-yard penalty, but that's going to be a hit the smaller receivers don't have to take. Young was 194 lbs at the Combine, but he'll likely play closer to 180. It's going to be hard for him to keep the weight on throughout the season. Pickett is even coming in 10-15 lbs heavier this year to help sustain the beating QBs face.

Bryce has the intangibles no doubt. Smart kid, great arm. But that frame is prototypically small.

I’m rooting for him to prove us wrong.
