Yeah I read that article too. What I took from that was he was pretty damn productive for them to break down film and say he was inconsistent. But there was a draft report questioning his work ethic. Not to mention a soso combine.
So yeah he had enough knocks to knock him down. I think he is a developmental project. But when a player doesn't have a lot of top college experience I think it is reasonable to not be surprised at inconsistent tape.
We will see soon enough how well he consistently holds up.
All that said I like his potential.
Lots of motivational flags from academics to on field play. His combine numbers were poor. I don't know, but it wouldn't shock me if the kid just wasn't prepared for the combine drills. If you are out of shape at the combine or if your drill techniques are poor, coaches will see it immediately. I repeat, I don't know if that was why he tested poorly, but I think it is a fair speculation.
Also, cardio work isn't something the big guys like. It could well be that what the guy hates is cardio work. Lack of conditioning would certainly show up on the field and at the combine. I do NOT know if that is the case with him. But you know who does know? The guy knows him better than anyone in the NFL? Karl Dunbar. If anyone knows what drives the kid or what obstacles the kid may have or is dealing with (intelligence, family life, cognitive issues such as reading disability), it would be Dunbar. I'd bet if the kid has any chance to 'catch fire' in the NFL, it will be under Dunbar.
All that said, I certainly like the position pick and as stated, I like his potential. Lets see what happens in camp. Kid has boom or washout written all over him, but he could be another interesting watch at camp.
