Back in 1970 the US opened up trade with China like never before. Ever since then, the US "exploited " cheap labor there. Our steel industry, as well as others moved operations there. China is now the world's manufacturing heavyweight. That was US back in the 50's. Not anymore. Crying about not making test kits here, or anything else is foolish. Our elected officials sold us out. They handed manufacturing "power" to China.

While Trump definitely had us back on track with a lot of manufacturing, about 3/4ths of the APIs (active pharmaceutical ingredients) in the world that the U.S. uses comes from China. Maybe India as well, but mainly China. Not sure why we can't get back to that because we apparently (along with Europe and Japan) made 90% of APIs in the world until the mid 90's. Yep it's true. Trump's tariff war with China didn't include those 'pharmaceutical components' or whatever you want to call them because we rely so much on them.
The U.S. wants to think of itself as this highly advanced healthcare provider in the world when in reality, we're relying on China for so much basic ****. Start working on that. But really though, there's so much that's already set us back who knows how long and that was never addressed in the first place, so who the hell is gonna do it now? That's a trillion dollar a year industry and you're telling us the U.S. can't get back to making it's own APIs? Just more proof that those in power here are in bed with China, snuggling ever so tight.
Maybe someone way more in the know can shed more light on why that whole situation is what it is. But God bless Trump for trying and doing what no other President before him did.

Does China own any oil & gas, food suppliers in the USA, Utility companies, Insurance and so on? Part of 25% or more. I see a problem if the do. They have too much of a say in the financial markets, and our politicians bow down to them or say out of their way. We have a colossal problem. I'm not sure if it can be fixed without a major change to the system.

It's pretty unreal. All I can say is that I'm glad I was alive to catch the tail end of Americana. Also grateful to grow up in a household where my Mom and Dad both lived through the Depression WWII, etc. and I was able to gain a ton of insight from them.
I honestly don't know why the powers that be are taking us down this road but I expect it's mostly self-serving greed and corruption at our expense.

Its time we back / create small supply companies ( list them as American owned ) and put to work what I call 2nd class illegals living in the USA ( we have 11 + million of them ) at a rate where we can compete with Asia and Central America. The grunt work. They have a choice, work for an amount that no USA citizen will work for or go back to their county! We will send them. No more leaching on to USA on USA tax payers and states. Oh, and I hope a USA politician secures the board with guns that fire and hire more border security. The illegal traffic and Illegal migrations will decline severely. Keep legal immigration. Yes, just justify it by listing all the crime, drugs, gangs, women abuse, people abuse, and more they cause vs themselves and USA citizens. Drugs are killing the USA they really are, time to address it by stoping them form coming into the country. The problems are staggering. The boarder is not secure. We can get the cheap labor and not impact our citizens.

Nobody seems to care about slave labor in China. Every American wears Nike shoes, has an iPhone, etc. Even LeBron, who would speak out if a black were a slave in America, but he proudly wears his Nike outfit from China.

I ordered a pro-Trump item on Amazon, got the tracking info today, and found it's coming from China.
Someone else already left a review saying they would not have purchased their item if they knew it was made in China.
On the other hand, maybe the joke's on them. I can't see that you make much profit on something that costs $16 when you have to mail it halfway around the world.
It's the sad state of the world we live in. It's nearly impossible to find an item not made by the Chi-com's, and were not likely to see that trend reversed.
I knew it was time to retire when more and more of the medications began being sourced from there. On the bright side, you can find American made products
at yard sales that people think are junk, but are easily repaired to good as new.
