Calvin Austin III....???

The Steelers have 2 days to activate Calvin Austin III to the active roster. Even if they think they might need to IR him and end his season...wouldn't it at least make sense to add him to the active roster just in case he can somehow contribute to this football team? You can always IR him ending his season if you feel otherwise.
 
He obviously is healthy. With his speed, why wouldn't you activate him and start with a handful of simple plays a game for him like they dumbed down the D? Get him ready for his sophomore year and you might even get some nice plays out of him this year. Not activating him on a team going nowhere is just stupid. There is no other way around it. This will be a below .500 team and he absolutely couldn't hurt. He might even be able to return kicks.
 
Saw a quote from Tomlin and it sounds like they really aren't even giving Austin a chance to be activated by tomorrow. I think he said something like he didn't even play in the preseason. I knew that has been his philosophy in the past but this year is different. We aren't going anywhere and if Canaduh/Tomlin can't find a handful of plays to utilize his speed in a game then they truly are the problem. How about the all elusive pass across the middle that Marsha made a career off of? Oh, that's right. We don't throw to the middle of the field.

That is the most ridiculous thing Tomlin could have said.
This is not rocket science and Canada has what 10 plays we run each week?******* stupid!
Activate the kid and incorporate a few plays utilizing his speed. How the hell can it hurt?
Let Kenny develop a little rapport with Cal.
 
he is super fast and shifty. an unproven version of Tyreek Hill. How would you even use that? it is best to shut him down and go with what we got. can jusmp on the freight train mid season
 
I thought the playbook has already been dumbed down so low even someone on capital hill could understand.

Canada doesn't know how to use him? A college player. Canada used to coach kids like that. Now he forgot.
 
The fact that you could not bring him into the game to just run post routes and run a safety and corner away from the play just blows my mind. You have to be woefully incompetent to not find a way to use that type of speed...even if only as a decoy.

That's so ******* stupid. Zero reason to do that. That preseason excuse is complete bullshit. Practice and play. Practicing against the defense is the same thing as preseason, but better. You're practicing against starters, not a bunch of rookies and street free agents.

Tomlin makes no sense… Pickett didn’t work with the 1’s in preseason or most of the year, yet Tomlin throws him in cold..
 
Based on Tomlin’s comments, I’m convinced he’s staying on IR. I also suspect the real reason is that Sims is currently injured and Tomlin doesn’t want to cut and replace Gunner while Sims is injured. It’s another decision delayed until the off season.

There are a thousand ways to deal with that…chief of which would have been IRing sims before last week so he could have come back and only missed one game after the bye…

it's week 8. we have 8 activations left. 7, really since TJ is being activated regardless of our record.
why isnt Austin being activated? Gunner isn't worth a **** on offense.

Austin should have done like t*mmyb*y, went TO oc'S HOUSE AND STAYED FOR 2 WEEKS DURRING THE OFF SEASON (sorry caps).
