Cam Heyward

He's the second best interior DL of his generation. He's going to the HOF. If he was going to play for reasonable......sure. He will not. And he deserves to play for a contender.
He deserves to play for a contender? The hell he does. He’s the one who backed Tomlin is entire pathetic career and chose to have a good friend as a HC instead of good coach. He chose mediocrity over winning.

Shoot ... Tomlin is gone. No need to try to start a "revenge tour" on the players who liked/loved him. As has been recently noted, that would be the whole 2025 squad. And, where is the evidence of this "good friendship" you keep referring to? Also, who cares if they were friends? When I served this country, there were several higher ranking enlisted men I counted as friends, never stopped me from "hopping to it" when they said so.

Stats you don't see are how many batted passes Heyward gets that turn into ints. He has to be one of if not the best ever at batting balls down. As far as legacy goes i don't know how you could put TJ levels above Cam. TJ in his prime was the best to do it in the league, but his prime was short lived. Heyward has been one of the best DL in the game for 15yrs

Cam has been very solid that’s for damn sure but with the changing of the guard and despite what Rooney says, a rebuilding process on the horizon, I can see Cam either retiring or asking for release.
Same goes for Watt! Don’t know if the Eagles are still interested but they should guage that interest to see if it’s still there.
I’d be looking ahead to the 2027 draft and try and stockpile as many picks as you can.

I get that but when a superior is more of a friend than authoritative figure, it can become a problem. Things become a little less buttoned up.

I think that’s why he wanted to renegotiate his contract last year for more up front money in case he retired after last season.

I watched his effort in the last two weeks next to guys who are 5, 10, 12 years younger then him. He's a dog.

TJ Watt is only a post June 1st trade option in all realisty.

Ramsey and Heyward are likely just cap casualties IF we need the cap space. And without a QB on the roster right now sucking up big time money, I'm not sure what we need the cap space for. That could change as the off-season progresses and we have some guys likely worth giving money too (Porter, Jones), but those decisions will be somewhat impacted by new coach and new plan (if any).

I think Metcalf is here for 3 more years. I don't see any reason to trade him. Whatever QB we get, even going into "Project 2027", will need a guy to throw to and Metcalf offers something on that front. Highsmith is the same thing. We need a body. He's suitable. Expensive but not crazy expensive to worry about at this point.

That's all the expensive guys worth talking about. The rest of the roster is cheap and not really extended much past 2028.
Herbig, Washington and Benton are also entering their final years. Jones can actually wait, given the Steelers can exercise his fifth year option - and if he's worth a longer term contract now, then he is also worth exercising the option. The option looks like about $20m, and if the Steelers extend him now they are probably looking at $20m+ in guarantees.

I think Ramsey is a cap casualty even if Steelers don't need the cap space. $19.5m in 2026 salary and zero dead money if cut. Only way he should stay on the roster is a significant pay cut, and even then I seriously consider looking to go younger.
