I only think someone should get in is if they surpass the standards the HOF sets......like this is what's required for you to get in and if you pass that standard then absolutely that player should get in........of course there is a lot of subjectivity in the whole process but like guys like Owen's waiting a while was absolutely absurd.......I don't care for the guy but what's fair is fair......if u play as good or better than the guys that are in there you should be part of the club end of story
If Cam didn't make it I wouldn't lose one smidgen up sleep over it but I do think he deserves to go in.......is he an inspiring election like Lott or Polamalu or White or Fitzgerald or Lewis? Absolutely not! But he deserves to go......he's rhe lower end of HOFers but one nevertheless I believe
We should open up a HOF discussion on Ward, or Harrison......that's I think a better debate
Harrison eventually gets in. The narrative importance with him plus his accolades, particularly his SB play will eventually get him in... as with Lynn Swann he will go in because his peak was fantastic and his story is important to the game.
Ward will go in, but he almost certainly will wait a long time. His lack of flashy speed plays will hold him back in the media, but he will be a vet committee guy if he doesnt get in earlier.
Heyward is borderline.. it can go either way
TJWatt and Ben are unquestioned HOF guys
LCGreenwood is a political pariah, but my guess is the next big anniversary where they elect a big class he will be included... thats seems to be the best shot for older guys like him.
Gregg Lloyd was in the midst of one of the great 5 year stretches in NFL OLB history when injury cut his career short... he was despised by the media... and his peers dont seem like big fans, so he has no shot..
David Decastro also retired too early as a guard to merit consideration.., he had a really great peak, but didnt do enough...
Pouncey, on the other hand is a solid borderline prospect. He made the all 2010's team, has enough accolades to get a look and was well liked by the media. He also was a template for the modern center...
Antonio Brown will eventually get in... maybe even before Ward.. that dominant stretch was insane and he is an interesting story...
There are others who have a lesser but not zer chance of getting in with the Vet committee..
Aaron Smith played a virtually statless position in the 3/4, but was thought of as the best technical 3/4 end maybe ever... media guys cant quantify that, but older players may.. he was key in those early 2000 defenses
Similarly, Casey Hampton was a prototype 3/4 NT... his greatness wont be understood till some AI stat site counts triple teams drawn and tackles made by his teammates because of those.. 3/4 NTs need to be judged like olinemen, not olbs.. and perhaps future players understand that
Unlike the previous two, Joey Porter sr has flashy stats and a couple national narratives, and he was critically underrated in coverage for an olb, but im not sure he is the kind of player that the vet committee would back... he would have to have some weird media push to get in... its not impossible, but very unlikely
Maybe the best Vet committee case is James Farrior.. the leader of the 00's defense.. he was overshadowed by playong in the same division as stabby Ray Ray... he is well respected, very borderline stats wise. By most accounts, he is a top 20 ilb of all time.
The only other player that could one day be a surprise candidate, is Carnell Lake, who was a phenomenal SS. What holds him back is that switch to outside CB late in his prime. It neutered his stats significantly. He was one of the best blitzing SS ever..
I dont think fellow All 1990's team player Kirkland or anderson are going to get in... Kirkland because hed be behind too many other ilbs and Gary was a kicker... lol
