Can a defensive player win the Heisman Again? Coolie Pimps Ed Oliver

The Steelers should trade Bell to the browns for their 1st rounder next season so they have a shot at Oliver

here coach....some game film of Ed vs the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner...

they went through 3 QBs last season....the guy who was suppose to take over couldn't quit turning the ball over, and neither could the next guy....the settled on a sophomore who had a decent run to end the season....and the American conference isn't as weak as the other non Power 5 conferences. Ed may not get a lot of sacks, but he gets a load of tackles for loss....

OF course the odds are stacked against him to win the Heisman...but even Vegas gives him better odds than your bullshit response.

baring injury....Ed is going in the top 10 in next years draft

You've never watched the kid play and you want to make an assessment of his chances.....

I told you why his chances for a Heisman are extremely low.

You really think a Defensive Tackle, who plays average at best competition will be in the top ten of the draft tin 2019???

Take note NO Defensive Tackle has gone in the top ten of the draft since 2011!

If your so sure he will go in the top ten of the 2019 draft, why don't you offer some terms for a bet, and I'll likely shake on it.

My prediction...you won't.

PS: Vegas odds are mostly for suckers. Please do bet on him at 35 to 1 or whatever odds they give...its a sucker play. He's a defensive guy, on an average team, who doesn't get many sacks or turnovers.

the first two words in my initial post were "not likely"....so an intelligent reader would have known from that what my thoughts on his Heisman changes were....

you told me why....but you have NEVER seen the kid play. He is a interior defensive lineman who at times is tasked with covering RBs out in the flat....find me another interior guy on an level doing that . HE played roughly the same competition with a banged up knee half the season and he was the first sophomore to win the Outland Trophy.....and he has forced 5 fumbles in two seasons and tipped 12 passes

betting on the draft is a sucker bet...I wouldn't bet with someone I respected on how the draft would fall out....but if you are so sure he won't...then when he does you can take a vacation for a while

I'll post something complimentary about you in my signature....when you lose, you take a month off from this site....

JFC, you're turning into Coach.

Oh BTW...No. Will always be a QB or RB, once in a while a WR.

We are in fact the same guy :)

I disagree a bit with you Ron, a DB who gets a lot of turnovers and returns kicks has won the Heisman in the past.

For a DT to win it, he will need to be in the SEC, or BIG ten and huge amount of sacks and turnovers with his team being in the hunt for the national title.

I could see a DT winning the Heisman, if he makes the QB/RB have to avoid him in the backfield every play, and leads the nations in TFLs by an insane amount. Setting the NCAA record for TFLs might do it. He's already in the conversation for next year, so it's not like he's coming from nowhere and starts making plays.

I pick your signature for 3 months starting at whatever time I choose.

If Ed Oliver goes in the top ten of 2019 draft, then I'll take a month off from the board.

An injury shall be defined as thus: A season-ending injury that requires surgery.

Do we have a deal? I'll PM you the terms, just reply back with so we have a record of it.

that could also result in a banning

you pick my sig for a month beginning after the draft.

injury is anything that sidelines him for more than one whole game

Why does Coach always have to change the parameters? Why can't you just straight up on the bet as given?

You know better than anyone else, a player who is injured in more than two-three games won't have the chance. Always trying to skew the act so you can back out.

Well, I think a month's ban is worth a lot more than a signature.

I'll settle for two months of your signature if I win, and if you win a month's ban for me. There's your concession.

No on the injury, lots of players are out for one or 2 games. It has to be an injury that affects his draft status, something like surgery. That term is final.

Deal?

I'll just pick it once.... It won't be personal and can't be re-worded.

I'll also allow Ike Kelly to sub in on the bet if he wants to :)

The goal posts have quickly been moved from:

You do not seem very confident in your beliefs that he will be a top ten pick. Congratulations for thinking about it, because you know I'm likely correct.

It seems like no one, including the reclusive board hero TMC who ( would have lost the bet on Baker going in round one ) wants to challenge me after they make an initial statement.

what have I changed? I said barring injury....

Let's see Genius....Here is you requesting a bet......(Bold emphasized for your ignorance)

Here is Coolie, taking you up on the bet and giving the terms and end result. (You didn't give any, so Coolie did).

Now you change the parameters of the bet....you wouldn't accept the bet after you offered one. It was your idiocy to not set the terms first since, you know, you placed the bet.

Of course you would try to add me to your little peacock attempt. But I know better. You already think too much of yourself to be taught a lesson in humility.

BTW....how about giving us the last Heisman winner while missing 3 games in that season?

E Oliver could be that guy. I just hope that if he is that guy that he does get the heisman. I think for years that it's been hyped as a QB club award and many candidates have been left out due to their position of play. Will Ed win,....nobody here can say yes or no for a fact, here today but he definately has the potential to win it. If he ended up a STEELERS player it would be lights out good in my eyes. Coach is way low on his ODD's and you know as well as anyone that it is a hill to climb for him to win it (ED) but also very doable.

Salute the nation

I'd be happy if he was the token defensive guy to win it just to quiet those who say it is just an offensive award now.....

Ed has to keep doing what he has done, TFLs, high tackle numbers, tipping passes, causing fumbles and pressuring the qb....and it would help his case if they use him more on offense this year.

win or lose on the Heisman chase....I hope he does well this season and stays in the conversation throughout the year. A case like his will show the next group of recruits that if you have the talent you can show case it anywhere..even a non-Power 5 school like Houston. Below is a list of the accolades the kid won last season

• 2017 Outland Trophy Winner
• 2017 Consenus All-American
• 2017 FWAA First Team All-American
• 2017 Walter Camp First Team All-American
• 2017 AFCA First Team All-American
• 2017 American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year
• 2017 The American All-Conference First Team
• 2017 Phil Steele First Team All-American
• 2017 ESPN First Team All-American
• 2017 CBS Sports First Team All-American
• 2017 Bleacher Report First Team All-American
• 2017 SB Nation First Team All-American
• 2017 Sporting News Second Team All-American
• 2017 Associated Press Second Team All-American
• 2017 Sports Illustrated Second Team All-American
• 2017 Outland Trophy Finalist
• 2017 Nagurski Trophy Finalist
• 2017 Bednarik Award Semifinalist

As I said a few times, he is the first sophomore to win the Outland Trophy....not sure what else he could accomplish other than a National Championship or the Heisman....UH had an outside shot at the playoff his Freshman season, until injuries on defense and to Greg Ward, ruined that...they did knock off both Oklahoma and Louisville that season though.

We all know the real goal of college players is the NFL....and if he has the type of season he is capable of and goes Top 10 or hell depending on who is picking Top 5....it would go a long way to showing future 5 star kids they can stay home in Houston and still make a name for themselves......

what have I changed? I said barring injury....

So in other words if he's out a game, or two, you don't want to bet. Gotcha.

Barring injury to me is something that would hurt his draft stock, such as a surgery.

Okay, I'll settle for bragging rights, and I'm pretty sure I will win.

Holy hell do you have an ego. And you are shameless about it.
