I love the breakdown. That first play to Pat is an example of an NFL throwing window. The difference between college football and NFL football is huge in terms of throwing windows and game speed. That throw was quick, decisive, accurate and most importantly thrown with anticipation of Pat getting open.
The second play I personally believe is designed to hopefully get A-Rob singled up on the high safety but the CB and safety run with him so Pickett immediately comes off that to Warren who is the safety net. I think this was well defended by Cincy as the DE doesn't crash down on Najee like I am sure we hoped and the CB doesn't stay flat footed but runs with A-Rob which isn't what we hoped. But good quick decision and accurate throw moves the chains.
Third play is a lot like the first. Kenny sees the hole in the coverage and anticipates Freiermuth getting open. Last week he doesn't throw this he probably dumps it to A-Rob. But if you look at the LBs feet/hips he is turned the wrong way leaving all that space for Kenny to throw.
The should be TD was another good read. See's the safety commit to A-Rob and throws it to the soft part of the coverage where DJ dropped it. I know they said Tomlin should have challenged but I don't think it stands because he didn't maintain possession so I don't think they call it a catch. But the decision and throw were good.
Next play is something Pickett has been above par at all season. Throwing the go/fly route. Kenny recognizes a single high safety and throws a very nice ball. A nit pick but something next level to do here is to hold the safety a little longer by looking left then coming back right. Not a big deal here because the CB covering makes the tackle anyways but if he doesn't the safety easily makes the tackle. Nothing wrong with the play just thinking next steps in development.
Next one is a protection error. Those are again higher level adjustments. I wish we would fake like we are going to snap it more often so make it easy to identify the blitzer. Because if you notice the second James Daniels sets in his position 33 shows he is coming for the blitz. If we have him do that then let Kenny call out the blitz and protection we likely pick that up and maybe he gets time to throw the post or comeback. But can't change everything in a week.
Next play is a little bit of a misfire. It isn't godawful of a throw. Just needs to be a little tighter. I am not going to nit pick this because he made a quick decision and was the right receiver to throw it to. Everyone has misfires and this game Kenny had a lot less and that is what I wanted to see.
Next one was again a quick decision. Play is literally designed to get single coverage and just enough for the first. Good play and execution.
This is an area he really needs to work on. He has a nice clean pocket to step up in. But he escapes out of that clean pocket to take away half the field. Where if he steps up he has Najee for a dump down and a decent gain.
Next one was a nice accurate throw. No one is open but he trusts his arm and Pat will come down with it. If he trusts his line I think the slot is coming open in the middle in about one more second but I am not going to be upset with a decisive accurate throw.
A low throw comes next but DJ actually hangs on. Again a quick decision. I think they really emphasized that where perhaps under Canada it was too much "don't make a mistake" where now is "trust what you see."
Next one is why Pickens needs to be targeted more. He isn't even open but catches it and gets a nice YAC on top of it. Good throw and awesome catch.
Next one I love the decision, and the quickness of it. I don't like the throw. He needs to throw that outside to make the DB have to run through DJ to get the ball. That leaves DJ as the only one who can catch it and if the CB goes for the ball it is likely PI. But again we are taking big steps in the decision making process so I am ok with it.
Next is a well designed bootleg to get A-Rob some space and a nice early chunk yard play to make 2nd/3rd easier to convert. There might have been an option to push deeper to DJ but as Mike Holmgren used to say a 5 yard pass is as good as a 5 yard run.
