More proven than anything the Steelers currently have and probably was a better QB than Ben was last year.
I've always liked Wentz, and I thought that he would do a lot better this past season with the Colts after reuniting with Frank Reich. Didn't happen. So while I don't think he would be the long-term solution for the Steelers, depending on how small his salary is, he might be worth giving one last shot.

Wentz indeed outperformed Ben last year, but that's not saying much.

They are both under contract

Wentz as a back-up, maybe. Starter, idk, but he's better than anyone on our roster right now. Still would rather go after Mariotta or Trubisky.

Thing is probably doesn't take much to upgrade Rudy. If the team thinks he does then you do it. Unless there is someone they feel they can get that upgrades Wentz and so on...
And so on...

IMO, we wait for:

1) See where Rogers signs
2) See where Wilson signs
3) See who above us in the draft takes a QB

Then, we offer a low-round pick for their current starter.

if Rogers or Wilson lands in Nashville, we could offer a pick for Tannehill.

Though if you want to dream big, you get Arizona on the phone and offer them our 1st this year and next year, as well as a handful of other picks for Murray. Then we can slowly build the OL.

please, put that phone down. I would not be in favor of that trade. At all. If we were a QB away and a few pieces, but they need too many pieces to give up two #1s for a QB that would be almost wasted over the next 2 or 3 years.

Ok say they don't pick up an upgrade in free agency and decide to go with Rudy. How are you on a week to week basis watching the offense average 12 points. Can you handle that for 17 games? Think the O was bad last year you ain't seen nothing yet.

Tomlin has a hard-on for a mobile QB.
Murray fits that to a T
He's also got game experience and likely needs a change of environment

How are we not a few pieces away? Ben - on his last goddamn leg - got us into the playoffs...after we TIED Detroit with Rudy at the helm. Our defense will be solid if we get Tuitt back and resign Adams at NT. Our offense needs a few pieces on the line. KC added a C and RG in the last draft and made the AFC Championship game. Who's to say we cannot add a RT and RG in the draft, or find a couple solid vets to go on the line?

Wentz will almost surely be cut by the Colts; no team is likely to take on his $28 million contract in a trade after his disastrous end to 2021.

You could expand the playoffs even further to all 32 teams and some people would say we were in the playoffs we were almost there. This reminds me of vin diesel and Paul walker in the first fast and furious when Paul says "dude i almost had ya". You never had me, you never had your car!

The only way we were going to make any noise in the playoffs at all was if every teams 52 man roster came down with covid on game day and forfeited.

I understand optimism and being a homer for your team but be a little realistic. I would have had a hard time betting on us in any playoff game this last season even if we were spotted 3 touchdowns. We just were not and still aren't a very good team.

I will take some of what you are smoking thinking this defense only needs two players. Tuitt probably won't be back and even if he is that's over a year not playing football. Haden and Heyward are another year older. Nobody knows about Bush and if he will get back to his previous level of play. aside from Minkah the entire backfield is suspect, we need more than a few linebackers inside and out and our D line needs help. We haven't even touched on the offense.

KC added a C and RG and were in the AFC championship game SERIOUSLY what are you smoking?!?!? KC was in the super bowl last year and won a super bowl the year before. Thank god they added two players to get them over the hump to get to the AFC championship not to mention being one of the most stacked teams in a while and having probably the best QB in the league one of the best receivers in the league and the best or second best tight end in the league. But hey if we add two players it can happen for us just like it did for them.

fine.

let's go with Rudy and go 0-17 for the next few seasons, ******** on the careers of TJ, Minkah, Najee and Muth.
**** 'em, right?

some of you doom and gloom ************* need to pull your heads out of the noose before you take that final step off the ledge.

We could give Miami a bit less for Tua...same thing w/ Philly for Hurts.

Both of those guys are way better than anyone coming out this year...

I know you're biased, guy, but Hurts has a career passer rating of 84.7. The league average over the last two seasons is 92.2. Tua's is 88.8. Your boy Haskins has a 74.4 career number. Wentz, who you said no to in dozens of languages, had a 94.6 rating last season in a perceived down year, and has a career rating of 90.1, higher than all the others.

Wonder what the difference is for you. Can't figure it out.

Wentz is a stubborn poor decision-maker. That is all...

Ol girl put some sugar free chocolate fudge icing on these scones. Got damn there should be a law.

😁

Wentz is hard to figure. Before his injury he was going to win the MVP and looked like a star. He has never been the same. He butted heads with Doug Peterson and was traded. Frank Reich was his QB coach in Philly and it seemed the perfect fit with him again. Colts have a good OL and run game. Wentz wasn’t terrible but not great either. Similar to Rivers the previous year.

Maybe it’s the lack of WRs for the Colts? Pitman has been a decent possession WR but doesn’t make a ton of splash plays. Hilton is not the same player. Paris Campbell has not panned out and Zach Pascal is another possession guy. Jack Doyle is nothing special at TE.

So is it the QB or lack of weapons? Rivers is pretty steady and he didn’t do much with these weapons either.

Reich moving on from his hand picked guy Wentz is a red flag.

Yes, I’d take him for cheap. He’s better than any QB the Steelers have and he is a fit for Canada’s offense. But I would not bring in Wentz and then not address QB in the draft. I don’t love any QB in this draft but with QB you either have your guy or you don’t and if you don’t, keep fishing until you land the big one.

So calling it like it is makes me a doom and gloom MF'er? I mean your the guy who used KC signing two players to get them to the AFC championship as your argument?

Sorry man not trying to be a jerk but i don't think it's me with my head buried anywhere.

And poop on the careers of Najee and Friermuth if we have a few bad years?? they just finished their rookie seasons?? Whos the Doom and gloom here?? I mean ok we better figure all this out this year or our rookie running back and tight end will have their entire NFL career wasted?

Do you read what you post man? seriously? I might need your address to send the police over to do a wellness check for your own safety. you seem really overly invested in this. Which again makes the last line of your comment all the more hilarious. Self project much do we?

That dog won’t hunt. Wentz had more TD’s and yards and fewer INT’s than both Tua and Hurts last season. If we don’t want Wentz for making poor decisions, then I can’t imagine anyone would want the other two.

I wouldn't take Wentz. Personally i don't think you go after anyone that involves giving up anything or a lot of money unless you really think they are the future. Spending money or draft picks for someone to be a little better than what you have. That's just more of a recipe to remain in mediocrity. At that point i roll with Mason. Do i like Mason, not really. However 1 of 2 things will happen. Either he surprises you and is better than we thought (not likely if i had to bet on it), or he sucks and you get a better chance at a draft pick to address the future. Next year we will have a better standing from draft capital to move up if needed.

Honestly we need to address the other holes and restock this team and get to a point where when we can find a better QB they will have something to work with. IF we shore up the O line you can get the Running game working and that can help a less talented QB do more. Then when you do find your guy we aren't taking a risk of ruining him with a poor line and not much of a running game. Najee is great but even the best RB's of all time would have issues behind this line as it is currently.

I think the biggest problem is that Coach Tomlin believes the Steelers’ biggest problem is execution. He’s said it enough, so I have to assume he believes it. That being the case, I worry that he thinks the team is talented enough as constructed. Maybe they don’t go after anyone major in FA at any position. Maybe they just draft their draft and sign some depth.

I never go with a lesser player just to improve draft positioning. I never understand this take with free agency an option plus a decent draft room. If you have no confidence in either of those options then you shouldn't have confidence in them choosing the right draft pick 10 to 15 slots higher. Sure the Steelers have many needs. You BPA on those needs in free agency and the draft.

The Steelers have contracts they can terminate, contracts they can restructure, a boat load of available money to add to the mix. There is no reason they have to leave QB out of the equation. They can fix the Oline in the process.... And address the D.

OR maybe they think that guys who've already proven they can execute would be a better fit. Ya never know.

so if execution is the issue and not talent then doesn’t that mean that Coaching is the real issue? Who else is to blame when talented players underperform? Tomlin inadvertently blamed his coaches. Not himself though…obviously.
