CB Brandon Flowers cut by the Chiefs

I'm not saying we'll bring home #7 if Flowers is signed, but I will be even happier with the off-season and improvements to make this team as good as possible. It's not an avenue I'm used to. You can never have too many proven and capable players contributing to the cause.

he has scheduled visit with us still per steelerdepot.

If he shows interest a 2 year deal would be perfect, this year in the nickel on the and the outside Taylor and flowers and allen in the slot.
in the dime mccain comes in.

You make a great point about McCain, who, I forgot about in all the Dri Archer "hype"...

5-9 CB, yeah, just what we need. I sure hope he has a 50" vertical leap, being able to catch would be nice too.

McCain came to the Texans full of promise, then got worse each year he was there.

Strange the Steelers signed him.

Why is McCain even being mentioned? He's camp fodder.

Back to Flowers, the key to the deal is not this season (when we are 3-deep at CB in Taylor, Gay, Allen), but what type of salaries/cap numbers Flowers could be had for in 2015-2016, when we really could use a stop-gap type player to be a legit top-3 CB on this team, provide 500+ snaps, stay healthy and not be a liability.

I have no doubt Flowers, in our system, could be a decent player. Maybe even above average. But we don't really desperately NEED him now. And do you jump at a chance to help out in 2015-2016 now or possibly wait it out a bit longer. Maybe a better option, at a better price, becomes available between now and the start of 2015. That's a long time.

I think that's the dilemma with the situation. It's a bit unexpected for him to be there. It's a bit early to make a decision. And it's hard to project his correct contract value and negotiating either a 2-year or 3-year (or even longer) type deal.

He will?

Steelers signed CB Brice McCain, formerly of the Texans.
The 27-year-old was cut by the Texans last month after having a horrid season that saw him grade out as Pro Football Focus' worst corner out of 110 qualifiers.

PFF also rated Guy Whimper as the worst ol and he looked decent in the start he got and spot duty .
Screw these people opinions

The "opinions" on McCain were basd on stats, completion percentage, times targeted yards and TDs allowed, etc. McCain was beaten like a drum last year.

I guess Ike was a world beater...

As I stated - ANY CB can play well IF there is a decent to above average pass rush. Let that sink in...

When the Texans defense was OUTSTANDING - guess why? They had a GREAT FRONT 7. With the pieces were putting in place - our front 7 will be at least decent.

But, I'm sure the naysayers will find so reason to make this negative...

Pass rush helps but in todays NFL you can isolate on a guy and use quick passes to negate the rush and expose poor corners, McCain is a poor corner

Ike was paid top ten money and is a much better corner than McCain don't understand your reasoning. Thinking a worse player is going to thrive where Ike couldn't due to thus new mythical pass rush we will have. We have zero proven pass rushers but hope is alive.

He signs a one-year deal with the Chargers.

Officially off the market.
