Claypools Dumb *** Penalty

We'll see what Claypool does next week. If he gets the message, after a first-down reception he'll run back to the huddle. I don't think he'll be able to resist making the signal.
I read where he doesn't blame himself
A few things here. First he did say he needs to do better. Next, he wasn't lying, Turner runs to him to grab the ball and give it to the ref and the ref flat out dropped it.

On a side note, I've never had a big prob with the first down signal (there is a time and a place and Claypool needs to learn that), but I've been really impressed with the way Harris conducts himself after plays. Shaking hands with defenders, giving props to the OL after runs, very Barry Sanders like.
Claypool put himself before the team. He had to do his first down act as time was ticking away. A child playing a man's game. I have zero hopes that Tomlin will correct this. A shame really. If Tomlin takes control of the situation now with Claypool not only could it straighten out Claypool but other younger players that are watching.

Again not defending him at all but it wasn't Turner. The defender knocked the ball out of his hand intentionally. It should have been penalized for delay of game.
Yeap, cbssports has a good article with video to prove that kendricks knocked the ball from Claypools hand

One thing that really bothered me was Ben’s comment after the game that said something to the effect, “it’s not my job to talk to Claypool. That falls on Tomlin.” As a 26 year military vet, that’s called a failure in leadership. Say what you want about Ben…great QB, All Pro, All Star, future HOF QB…no dispute. But he is obviously not a locker room leader if that’s the position he takes. Maybe THAT’s wha the team lacks. Leaders.

I'm 100 percent not defending him. He was a ****** idiot last night including the penalty. That said this is what I saw on the play. The guy stuck his finger in Claypools face. Claypool did the same and pushed his face mask with his finger. The guy shoved him. They flagged Claypool presumably cause the ref thought he started it. Unsportsmanlike conduct. Ok. Maybe. Personal foul. Cmon. Still he had a jackass night even if he made some plays.

Doesn't mater how it happened, ignor it and make your staement on the field of play. To engage in that is a show of undicipline, regardless. You cost your team over such a small trivial thing yet selfish enough to only worry about yourself and image.

Tomlin is hearing / feeling the heat of his "soft" undiciplined team, he benched claypool and in the past he would have never done that. I truly hope Coach Tomlin does hear his undiciplined team voice.

Excellent post(s) stillwright !

To put blame on the guy who knocked it out of his hand is directly saying I didn't do anything wrong oand NOT taking ownership. Should never have been in the situation where the guy had the chance to knock it out.

He is a second year player, should be way more diciplined but under this Coaching non-detailed "player's" coached team this doen't surprise me. I hope he gets it turned around and along with that I hope the current / future coaching has a role in that dicipline required to change.

I read that as Ben expressing his frustration with Tomlin and Co. continuing to bring in guys like Clayfool and then not reigning their **** in when it first presents itself.

After the entire home of Bell and AB leaving was placed on Ben I don’t blame him for making that comment. Those types of antics shouldn’t be on the QB but rather the head coach.

I agree. I'm not excusing nor saying it wasn't idiotic. I'm just stating the fact that it wasn't Turner who caused the loss of Time. It was Claypools antic and the Vikings player's illegal act. Throw 10 yards in and a stoppage of time and you might have had overtime.

Fair points. Weak leadership at the top will destroy it at all levels.

I do agree with that, but the last time he got on a few guys he got earfulls of **** from players like Antonio Brown and Bell. Saying he's trying to act like a coach.

The entire culture of that team needs to change back to having real leaders on the team that hold each other accountable. They obviously get their panties in a wad if a teammate says something to them.

The HC needs to retire with Ben. They have transitioned far away from what we know Steeler Football to be. Draft the right type of men for the job.

The steelers are an example of the mentality of today’s younger generation. I don’t think anything is going to change culture wise soon. Hope I’m wrong.

But these guys are not committed to football like the players prior. It’s all about money and making it to retirement not broken down.

Plenty of younger generation are not like that. Think of how we are. How we will raise our sons to be.. The challenge is finding them. Then finding exceptional football players who also fit what you need.

The majority of parents don’t raise there kids like we do. Look at the p&r side of the board. You know the way society is now.

We may not see it in our personal lives but the ideology is trickled into every fabric of our social lives in some shape or form

That's kinda how i read it. Ben is tired of taking heat for leadership issues and feels the HC should be responsible. I feel 90% should be in the HC, but sometimes people respond better to their teammates than coaches

Think about something:. Nobody is left but Tomlin and Butler. Since 2004 Ben has been here, cowher and every other person that passed thru this organization, gone. He's still here. He can't possibly identify with any of these new players. He obviously doesn't like their music, have you listened to anything new these days you liked? His view of the world is most definitely different from these guys who are all about rainbows and. Pumping up their brand. Every friend the guy gets goes away.. he probably does what he does and goes home. We heard one thing one time where he tried to correct AB in practice for running wrong routes,. He got roasted in the media. I'd say **** it too.

My point.

Today’s generation is just about what they do what they gotta do and go home.

Social media has a big influence on a lot of things. Pro sports included. These guys are marketing themselves. Not that I agree with it as a fan, but they have to promote themselves after their career. Football is a short career,

I don’t agree it, but in a way I understand it. Maybe they do care enough to leave a legacy but these guys don’t care about the history, legacy of the team like the fans do.

Players are replaceable and with that comes generational and cultural changes. As fans we latch on emotionally cause it provides something stable and consistent in our lives. When that stability/consistency is challenged by generational/cultural change. Whelp. Here we are

I can only imagine what AB said to him, considering how he talks to the mother of his children.

These guys play for them. Not the team. There is too much money circulating for wins and losses to impact their thoughts. They say the right things in front of the camera, but behind closed doors they are just there to collect a check.

Sure some guys do care and take pride in their team. But be honest with ourselves, we fans put more care into the team than the players.

This said, there are good people in football, but I’d guess they are few. The kids who do care in today’s generation take careers in medical, law, IT etc

Oh yeah I know. My dad told me some years back, don't get worked up over these guys, they don't give a **** about you. They'll sell out to the highest bidder and change colors just like that.

Yep. Look at AB, Bell, Tom Brady even switched teams. Peyton Manning switched teams.

Lincoln Riley in college bolted for a bigger payday. It’s a cutthroat career, I don’t blame them for chasing the money. It’s a short career at that. I’d want a secure retirement bank account than a super bowl ring novelty myself.

But to contradict myself here, if you’re making millions to play a sport. I’d be content no matter which team I’m on

Seriously. AB had probably already made 60+ million. Bell was just a dummy who cut his own throat and threw 10 million in the garbage can.Think he will end up broke. Tom Brady is worth what 300-400 million, his wife is worth 600-700 million. He definitely doesn't need the money. Probably wanted to prove he could do it without belicheat. Peyton Manning didn't need the money either.

So really how much would it take you to retire? I think the biggest problem for many of these men is that they're dumbasses when it comes to spending.

The only people who are truly loyal and love the team are the fans. There's no price tag on us.

Which means we can ***** about everyone and anyone because we're not going anyplace..lol

It's like some people who win a large lottery who end up broke and bankrupt. Many are ignorant about finances.

I wonder if the ball would have been knocked out of his hand if he would have jumped up after getting tackled and ran the ball back to the ref and handed it to him?

MOST definatly, It is NOT Ben's job to be the diciplinary, HC is for that and he just said it as truth it was.

This hanging **** on BEN has gone way to far and is bullshit to even bring it in that direction. How ab out holding the ******* coach responsible for that to that.
