Coach firings

Bringing Munchak back to me makes sense. OL coach and Assistant HC. This gives us an internal promotion option if Tomlin isn’t resigned after 2024. Munchak was loved by the players and made chicken salad out of chicken **** with that offensive line. Imagine what miracles he could do with Moore, Green and Dotson.

they reeled off a string of wins to finish 9-8 .like you said they had QB issues early part of the year. ........ remember the old days when you were like.... we have Tom Landry and the Cowboys, or Bill Walsh and the Niners....... not much in the long tenured department anymore from opponents
I would have canned the GM. That is who should have been canned.

Guys Munchak left because he and his wife wanted to be close to his daughter and grandchild (who live near Denver). He was a candidate for the HC position before Fangio was hired. Who knows, he may be on the HC list again, if that’s what he wants to do. When he was at PIT he exclusively had no desire to HC again. Maybe he would like to come back to PA to be closer to other family, if so yeah, it would be cool fir him to get the OL job again and work and mold a young OL.

Flores gone in Miami
Nagy and GM
Zimmer and GM
Fangio
WTH…….Flores is canned with all the QB mess he’s had to endure? Ross must want the Harbaugh’s crybaby brother in MIA.

I'm shocked that Brian Flores got fired. The Fins played well the second half of the season and went 9-8. If I'm the Steelers I try to bring in Mike Zimmer or Vic Fangio for my defensive coordinator and at least inquire with Munchack to see if there's interest there. I'd also inquire about Brian Flores who I think is a good coach.

I really don't get the Flores one. Winning record with a bad QB situation. I would definitely give him a look. I think Miamis D-cord is someone else to look at

Flores is a shocker. It makes me think it’s because they have a specific, big name replacement in mind. That or maybe there was a power struggle internally and Flores asked to be fired because he can’t work with the other guy.

Flores did a tremendous job there. The defense is on the cusp of being one of the best in the league. The offense is hampered by no run game and Tua being erratic.

Would be funny if the Jags hired Flores.

Are the Dolphins going after Deshaun Watson? If so then maybe they have a college coach in mind. It would seem after the Urban Meyer debacle that it’s less likely but you never know. Who would it even be? You’d have to think they’d want an offensive guy. Lincoln Riley just signed the mega deal with USC. I don’t think Dabo Sweeney is a fit for NFL.

From college ranks there’s only 3 names I can think that make sense.
Ryan Day - has experience calling plays and would fit with Watson if that’s the direction you’re going. Also a natural fit with Chicago.
Harbaugh - he’s still a big name and maybe he parlays his big season into another NFL gig.

Lane Kiffin - still considered a great offensive coach and QB developer. Seems to have matured a bit.

If they want to hire NFL, the only name that makes sense is Bienemy. Again, assuming they want to hire an offensive guy.

Judge in NY should get another year. The giants have been decimated with injuries. The OL was a bit better but still subpar. QB Daniel Jones got hurt. Saquon missed the start of the season and was eased back from injury and not quite himself yet. Their big free agent acquisition Golloday missed most of the year. First round WR Kadarious Toney looked good at times but missed most of the year. Even Engram was hurt.

The defense actually played pretty well. If they upgrade the OL, and get their weapons back healthy, they can be a good team. Daniel Jones is tough to grade behind a bad OL and no weapons. Give him another shot but bring in competition.

Flores was very vocal about having wanted Herbert over Tua and did not get along with the GM.

Flores would make a good DC or if he doesn’t get offered that elsewhere and we stick with Butler an awesome secondary coach.

I'm home with the 'Rona and watching ESPN who just quoted the Dolphins as saying they aren't interested in the other Hairball brother which means they are interested in the other Hairball brother.

Flores isn’t coming here to be a yes man to Tomlin’s remedial defensive schemes. And Tomlin seems to be afraid to hire coaches that could possibly challenge his authority. That’s why I won’t hold my breathe for a guy like Fangio either.

Canada is over his head and should go and be replaced by a proven NFL playcaller.
Ike Hilliard needs to go and be replaced by somebody who can actually teach WRs.

Steelers need to hire a team of film evaluators. It appears the Steeler watch little film of opponents because their gameplan is wrong every week.

yeah, its pretty bad when I can tell what the offensive play is going to be, and where the RB is going to go before the snap. of course we don't need the camera to pan out too wide since Canada's play calls are all within 5 yards of the LOS.

Virtually all of Tomlin's hires have been promotions from within, i.e. people he already knows. Fictner, Canada, Butler, multiple OL coaches. The best assistant hired during MT's tenure was The Toddster and we all know that was a FO hire that MT had nothing to do with.

I called our first two plays on Friday.

of you want to be a short passing team that’s OK provided you are actually good at executing the plays. Brady was dink and dunk for most of his Pats career. How many short passes did guys like Troy Brown, Welker, and Edelman catch in that offense? You knew it was coming and it still worked because they executed it perfectly.

contrast that with the Steelers and it’s a **** show. Steelers throw WR screens quite a bit and the execution is horrible. It’s rarely blocked properly. Do they even have quick slants or shallow crosses over the middle in the playbook? Guys like DJ and Ray Ray should be great at those.

Every team has core plays they’re great at executing. Steelers don’t. That’s a problem.

Munchak was hired by Tomlin.

Lots of choices to improve the people around Tomlin. Tell him it's going to be that and a reduction of his responsibility
or he will be joining them soon.

I just caught the *** end of the announcement. How could anybody interview Jerrod Mayo for a head coaching job already? I didn’t catch what team it was, because he was a patriot? Because of Vrabel, does not make sense. And on a sidenote, how come nobody is requesting to interview one of Mediocre Mike’s coaches?

Flores is a surprise and should be one of the top available candidates for any of the open jobs right now.

His pressers aren't very convincing. I know Giant fans have zero faith in him...And from his pressers it doesn't seem like he has the leadership skills to thrive under the spotlight and scrutiny of NY...Really surprised he hasn't been fired. But it just might happen…the NY General Manager just retired, so…..

As was Austin, the secondary coach ... Since he has prior DC experience (although his defense in Cincy was atrocious), he's probably the guy who will take over for Butler.

Me too Burgundy, but I've heard some rumors floating around about Jim Caldwell for both the Jags and Dolphins jobs, and Florres is already lined up for an interview with Chicago. That was definitely a power struggle down there in Mia. Considering the lack of success from the GM over the last 21 seasons, I'm surprised they kept him over a proven winner like Florres.
