College Bowl Thread

I know McSorley isn’t much of an NFL prospect, but I really like him as a player. Great intangibles.

McSorley would be nothing more than a late round pick and would be walking away from a great shot at the Heisman in 2018.

He's not entering the upcoming draft.

Forget the Heisman, he'd be walking away from a potential National Title.

Brian Griese can't suck enough Wisconsin ****. Holy **** *****, at least try to disguise the bias. And I hate Miami lol.

Penn State made it interesting. That game should have been a blowout. Wash capitalized on a bunch of PSU mistakes. So much for their great defense. Penn State shredded them all day. The only stops they made were on some fluky turnovers. The first INt was a great play by the DB dragging his feet in the endzone but the tipped ball INT and the bad lateral fumble were pretty lucky.

Future looks bright for PSU. They probably lose Barkley but the backup is a former 5 star RB and they landed another 5 star RB in this class. They also landed the best deep threat WR recruit in the country. He's over 6'3 and runs sub 4.4.

The big get was the monster defensive player (top 5 overall prospect in nation). Some say he reminds them physically of Lavar Arrington. He may start out at LB but end up as a DE. He was at some all star workouts in Florida being coached by Deion Sanders and they had him doing DB drills vs top WRs and Sanders had no criticism. Kid is an elite athlete.

Barkley not sure if he'll come out yet. Only reasosn he may stay is a shot at the Heisman and a shot at the playoffs. Both possible if he stays. I think he will eventually decide to leave.

Have to give him credit for not only playing in the bowl, but playing hard.

Last year, Fournette and McCaffrey got a pass for skipping their bowl games. I have a feeling NFL teams will start to hold it against kids a bit more. Sure, it makes business sense, but is that who you want to draft, the kid who makes business decisions or the kid who will play hard no matter what because his teammates depend on him?

The "crappy" big 10 is now 7-0. Pretty impressive so far

Yep, this is why they need to change the rules that you must be a conference champ to get in the playoffs. It's because this is all assumption. The SEC was down this year and the Big Ten was very strong. Then the committee just went back to giving the SEC the benefit of the doubt for no reason.

The SEC has 2 teams in there because the concocted this narrative that 3 loss Auburn is some monster team. Why? Because they clubbed Bama upside the head, so the only way you can put Bama in there is by propping up 3 loss Auburn. Did i mention Auburn lost 3 games?

Oh well, this means nothing anyway. Bama will be back in the playoffs next year too. They'll just manufacture the reason later. Big Ten could have 5 teams in the top 10 and they'll talk about Bama's big win vs Arkansas

I agree Tape, to have a 4 team playoff, you can't have 2 teams from one conference. Push the conference championships harder, so you have to win your championship to get in. 2 years in a row a team made the "playoff" without even playing in their championship game. That's just dumb...

Barkley would be a fool to stay. He's a top 5 pick. As long as the Clowns don't get him.

Yeah he's got a big payday coming and he knows it. I guess if the Browns draft him he can cry himself to sleep on a bed of hundred dollar bills.

Funny how the big ten wasn't good enough to make the playoff, because their conference wasn't as strong but can end up with the teams at 5,6,7 when all is said and done.

One thing that really irks me, is how Penn State wasn't even considered for the playoff (not that they should've been in, but Ohio st got arguments to be in)

Consider penn st loses two games by 4 points.

Was ahead on the scoreboard for 85% of plays. (Best in fbs)

One of those losses was on the road to a top 5 team by a single point.

The second loss was in the most unusual of circumstances on the road vs a ranked opponent with a 3.5 hour game stoppage.

Just felt they were more deserving of the consideration that Ohio state got. Despite the h2h loss. Like the Buckeyes got the year before.

8 teams.
5 conference champs
1 non 5 champ/ND
2 at large.

New Year's Day and we have 3 bowls plus the 2 playoff games. The thing that sucks is because they want each playoff game by itself they are playing all 3 of the early bowl at about the same time at noon.

12:00 Outback Bowl - Michigan vs South Carolina -
best part is that the Big Ten is already 7-0 in bowls so i can root against Michigan and Harbaugh. But i think Mich will smash South Car. Sure Michigan lost 4 games but that was to 5 Ohio State, 6 Wisconsin, 9 Penn State and 16 Mich State. They smashed Florida and SC beat Florida in a close one.. Michigan is not a great team but they are good. I'm not sure how good South Car is.

12:30 Chick-Fil-A Bowl - 12 UCF vs 7 Auburn
Interesting game. Let's see what UCF has. Their HC Scott Frost is leaving for Nebraska, but he will coach the bowl game. It's hard to say how that will go as he juggles 2 jobs. It's a huge game for their program. It's a huge step up in opponent talent level. UCF has not faced a defense with anything close to Auburn's talent. On the plus side, their offense is based on deception and not power so they may have some tricks up their sleeve. I hope so. If they get blown out, it will only justify snubbing the little guys in the future. Although if they win, it will be dismissed as Auburn not being that into the game, as if a 3 loss team has reason to be disappointed they are not in the playoffs.

1:00 Citrus Bowl - 14 Notre Dame vs 17 LSU
I have a feeling this will be a horrible game. Both teams just want to run the ball. Sometimes a low scoring game can be exciting if it's low scoring because of great defensive plays. But if it's low scoring because each team keeps running into a wall then punting, it's not so great. Notre Dame has a freshman QB. The thing that makes bowl games great is sometimes a team improves a ton during the extra practices and adds some unexpected wrinkles. I hope somebody does something unexpected in this game because if it goes as i expect, it will be a snooze.
