College Football Week 11

Nice bounce back for Penn State. They should easily win their final 3 games and be in the top half of the playoff. The question there will be if Franklin can finally have his team ready to play top teams and can he call a good aggressive game. Unfortunately, I have zero confidence he can as he loses most games against top 5, top 10, and even top 20 teams. One and done would not surprise me.

The Ohio State loss put Penn State in a great position. A cupcake schedule to end the season AND they don't have to play in the conference championship game. That locks them into a home playoff game. Sure you lose the bye week, but that is offset by playing a conference title game and the chance to lose and be forced to play a road playoff game in the first round. The idea they're still having conference championship games makes zero sense and I can only see it benefitting fringe playoff teams.

Penn State is in better shape than the loser of the Big 10 champ game. You have to get up and play that game and if you lose, you don't get a bye in the playoff. You are likely better off finishing 3rd in the Big 10 or SEC than 2nd.

They won't get rid of these champ games because of money. Instead they should repurpose them. Who says you have to play your top 2 teams? What the big 10 and SEC should do is say that their champ game will be between their top 2 teams that are not ranked in the top 10 of the playoff ranking.

Better yet, why not get rid of the conference affiliations and turn them into play-in games for bubble teams like the BBall tourney does? Maybe you get LSU vs Clemson.
