College Football Week 14

Speaking of bad, Bob Chesney is about to become the next head coach at UCLA. So another potential candidate for the Penn State job goes elsewhere. I can hardly wait to see who Pat Kraft ends up hiring.

He had it pinned to his chest when he broke the plane. For the UM fans complaining, refs missed a blow to Sayin’s head and a hold/PI on the DB when JJ made his double move on the same play.
Not to mention the unbelievable non-ejection of Barham who quite literally headbutted a ref in the face!

Seems like he is in firm control of the situation lol

Rumors right now are BYU's head coach Kalani Sitake with Louisville's Brohm as a backup. Who knows if anyone has insider knowledge or if it's a bunch of dude's on message boards with "sources."

I think it’s the latter. They are just throwing names out there for clicks. Terry Smith, come on down.

New names being thrown around for Penn State

Tenn coach Josh Heupel - i would not be surprised if Tenn themselves put this out there. Maybe they want to part ways without paying him to leave. This would be an awful hire for Penn State. He's like Franklin.

BYU coach Kalani Sitake - he's a really good coach but he's only ever coached on the west coast. Maybe it could work out if they keep Terry Smith to recruit in the east and Sitake can bring in some west coast players.

That's funny. Makes me certain it was some Tenn boosters who put his name out there.

Six losses in a row and padded their record with cupcake wins the rest of the season, including squeaking by Rutgers to even get bowl eligible. They're bad this season.
lol

I like how you reiterated your point about how bad Penn State is without disagreeing that they'd still beat Pitt. :sneaky:

Pretty sure that's a parody account because it's not followed by any beat writers

Thought PSU would try hard to land Chesney. They're fu cked now.

They wouldn't beat Pitt this year, but they don't want to play them during the season so we'll never find out. I also wouldn't call myself a Pitt homer, I acknowledge Pitt's faults and have realistic expectations for the team. I think you usually fall in that lane for Penn State, but the Nitter side of you is starting to come out right now ;)

Nah, there’s still a couple quality names out there, although I have little faith in Pat Kraft to land any of them. He’s gonna **** around and have no choice but to offer Terry Smith. I hope Terry tells him to piss up a flagpole. My gut tells me it will be Bobby Engram.

I like Pitt. I would have gone to Pitt if some of the circumstances in my life hadn't changed. And, in fact, Pitt was among my son's final eight schools.

But you stating you're upset that the Panthers might not make it to the Duke's Mayo Bowl speaks volumes about where their football program is right now. No matter who takes over at Penn State, they'll rebound from this rough season sooner than later. Where will Pitt be in 5 years? 10? In the middle of the pack of the ACC...if that conference still even exists?

Upset is not the correct word. This is Pitt's program. They'll never be at the level of Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, etc. I thought their upside was 5-6 wins this season, I'm thrilled with their performance and would like to see it finish off with a better opponent than Penn State.

But these bowl games are a farce these days anyway, with the opt-outs and coaching changes, etc. Whatever team Pitt ends up playing, they're not going to have anywhere near a complete roster (just like Pitt won't), so why even concern yourself about the quality of their opponent?

Who would be a better opponent than Penn State for Pitt? CBS right now has Pitt vs Washington in the Holiday bowl. They also have Miami vs Texas. If Miami makes the playoffs, maybe Pitt gets that spot. I don't know how the bowl bidding will work this year and it's still a moving target, but if that's a sampling of possible opponents. Maybe they beat Washington and nobody cares. Maybe they beat Penn State and they can use that for recruiting hype. Or they play a better opponent like Texas and get crushed.

I would think Pitt would be begging to play a vulnerable Penn State team.

Not many Pitt fans I've talked to are interested in that bowl game happening. Would love to see how Pitt stacks up against Washington, plus the Holiday Bowl would be a great spot to travel for any fans attending the game as well as the players. Pitt won't get a Florida bowl game, so Texas is out of the question.

Read today that the reason that Penn State hasn’t landed a coach is because of Jimmy Sexton. Apparently, he’s the agent for just about all of the high priced college coaches. The story goes that he’s pissed about what happened with Franklin and is steering all of his clients away from Penn State. He is Franklin’s agent as well. They might as well go ahead and hire Terry Smith. Seems he’s the only guy willing to take the job. Either that or fire Pat Kraft. That is supposedly who Sexton has the beef with.

Rumor is that Penn State had a handshake agreement with Sitake then the Mormon church and the CEO of Crumbl cookies got involved to offer him whatever he wants, so now it appears he's yet another coach getting a raise due to Penn State.

Penn State has to go all in on DeBoer now. This recruiting class is lost. Signing day is tomorrow, Dec 3. They can wait now to hire DeBoer.

They just have to hit the portal for like 50 players and hope the new coach can bring a few with him and retain some already on the roster. It's been done before. Deion did that when he arrived in Colorado. Penn State would offer almost immediate playing time to a bunch of players. Cignetti showed you don't need a team full of 5 stars. You need a team full of guys who fit together.

They may have a lost season next year, but if they have the right coach, that doesn't matter. You can rebuild very quickly through the portal.

The best thing the Penn State opening has done this season is get a bunch of head coaches a massive raise.
