College Football Week 14

Indeed. Bet you can’t guess who their agent is.
In the grand scheme, Penn State probably dodged some bullets and as long as they land on the right coach, it doesn't matter how long the process takes.

It's also crazy the agent has that much power if he's telling his clients to stay away from Penn State. He should be working for the coaches, not the other way around (not talking about the coaches who got raises to stay at their schools).

CFP Rankings

The invitational rankings are out.

1. Ohio State
2. Indiana
3. Georgia
4. Texas Tech
5. Oregon
6. Ole Miss
7. Texas A & M
8. Oklahoma
9. Alabama
10. Notre Dame
11. BYU
12. Miami (they beat Notre Dame head-to-head)
---------
13. Texas
14. Vanderbilt
15. Utah

Always an issue how to treat the winners and losers of conference championship games. I also think the extended time off with the bye week hurts teams and it can be beneficial to lose those games.

They just have to hit the portal for like 50 players and hope the new coach can bring a few with him and retain some already on the roster. It's been done before. Deion did that when he arrived in Colorado.
And how has that worked out for Coach Prime?

Jimmy Sexton is not going to steer away any of his clients from a paycheck at Penn State. The guy is not going to sabotage his own commission.

And how has that worked out for Coach Prime?

It worked pretty well initially for Colorado, but Deion is a crappy coach who doesn't recruit so it didn't last.

Penn State's not going to pull a championship team out of the portal but if the new coach gets maybe half the projected starters to stay plus brings a few with him, plus a decent portal haul and they can have a competitive (Bowl worthy) team in 26. Then build on that.

Let's not forget that the teams just after sanctions had no depth and an awful OL. But they had Saquon, Godwin, Gesicki, McSorley and an OC who knew exactly how to get the most out of them.

Penn State has a cake schedule next year. They don't play Ohio State, Indiana, or Oregon. Retain some key players, fill in with the portal. Get back on track with recruiting for 27. They'll likely take a dip down for 26 but it can be turned around quickly with the right staff.

You forgot to add in parentheses that Texas beat Texas a&m head to head…
Just saying..

I thought Penn State would've given him a look.
They may have. But all the information and speculation was from unverified sources mostly so it’s hard to say sure. Where there’s smoke there’s fire, so I’d say Pat Kraft has been chasing his tail.

I will say this. The PSU BOT has been silent throughout this process. So either Kraft got his guy and they just haven’t announced, or they are quietly plotting his demise for messing things up.

11-1 vs. 9-3. Miami and Notre Dame have the same record (btw, I think both should be in).

Texas fans think OSU kept them out of the playoffs, which is ridiculous. Florida did. Look at the before and after rankings after each game.

I would think Hartline would have taken Penn State over USF, so he likely wasn't offered. It appears PSU only wants a current Head Coach.

Signing day is already passed. At this point, just wait to see how this weekend and maybe even the 1st round of the playoffs pans out and go for a coach with an early exit.

By their own criteria, Ole Miss should be out. Their rules specifically state that coaching changes are taken into consideration. If Cignetti left Indiana for Penn State, I'd bet they would have been left out of the playoff if they finished 11-1. Not an SEC team though.

That’s the only plausible explanation if you don’t believe Kraft ****** this up. I think he ****** it up.

As someone else mentioned, other HC’s have moved already. If they have a current HC lined up, then why the delay?

I think the only way Penn State gets a quality HC is after Pat Kraft is fired.

Terry Smith is probably contacting a moving company to get his stuff sent to Blacksburg. I don’t think Terry is the guy, but if you don’t think this can get worse, let Terry leave without a coach in place. You’ll be Purdue the next morning.

People are bashing Kraft but what's he supposed to do? He went after Cignetti, Elko, Drinkwitz, and Sitake. They all signed big new deals to stay put. The only other coach who was hired that interested me was Hartline. He's never been a HC and was only an OC for 1 year. He kills it in recruiting so he would have been worth a risk, but he is a risk.

As I mentioned, it appears they want somebody with HC experience. Chesney had a lot of smoke but JMU was his biggest job to date and he was only in charge there a short time. That's a risky hire as well.

Florida hired Jon Sumerall. Would any PSU fan be doing back flips if he was hired?

Iowa State's Matt Campbell seems to be the next rumored candidate. He's a really good coach who has won over multiple years with little support.

Penn State did already get the best coach in America from there, Cael Sanderson.

We won't know if any of these hires are good for a few years. LSU thought they had a home run with Brian Kelly. Nobody thought Cignetti would do anything.

It worked out pretty well for Deion initially, did it? He was 4-8 in his first year, guy.

The fuckery of College football ranking is unbelievable. ND was 9th. Totally took care of business in Stanford. Alabama looked meh in Iron bowl setting up ND out if BYU but I'm assuming both Georgia and Alabama are in despite who wins even though one will have three losses.

Watching this game, maybe Sitake staying any BYU was not a bad thing

Beyond today's game, Sitake just didn't seem like a fit at Penn State. He is a BYU graduate and spent nearly his entire coaching career either at Utah or BYU. I'm not sure if he would be as invested at Penn State as he is at BYU.

The Steelers can draft a Q. But I'd stay out of the first. There isn't much to really hang your hat on. Simpson is sucking.
If the coaching staff is retained in it’s current form, I stick with Will and Skylar and use the draft to try and plug the many holes this team has. Send Mason packing. Rodgers will likely retire. This team needs so many things, why waste it on a 2nd or 3rd round QB that this staff can’t develop anyway.

It has been a weird year for college QBs. I don't see anyone really elevating themselves to #1 or even first round. I'm sure some will still go first round, but it seems like a total crap shoot this year

I'd hang back in the weeds and see what shakes out. Big question is who is coming out of the class that is better then Will Howard. I don't mind someone who falls with one of the thirds. Don't take someone for a narrative.
