In a bid to swiftly deliver on one of President-elect Donald Trump’s chief campaign promises, congressional Republicans are exploring ways to begin funding a barrier on the U.S. southern border starting as soon as April. Multiple lawmakers described the plans Thursday, which would use authority under a 2006 law supported by Republicans and Democrats alike to justify spending that could eventually reach into the billions of dollars.

On Friday, Trump took to Twitter with the same assertion that somehow Mexico will eventually cover the costs of what he called “the Great Wall,” although Mexican officials strongly reject offering any funds. “The dishonest media does not report that any money spent on building the Great Wall (for sake of speed), will be paid back by Mexico later!” Trump tweeted.

A number of Republican lawmakers believe that Trump has authority under the Secure Fence Act of 2006 to commence construction on a wall.

That would allow Congress, without passing a new piece of legislation, to start funding the wall through the normal appropriations process.

What happened to Mexico paying for it?

Oh, yeah! They told Trump to go **** himself.

I don't particularly care who pays for it as long as it gets built and we enforce existing law.

Why send all the illegals back home if they will be able to return to the US within a couple of days?

This guy gets it.

Republican Congressman Chris Collins said he has no doubt the Mexican government will end up paying.
"When you understand that Mexico's economy is dependent upon US consumers, Donald Trump has all the cards he needs to play," Mr Collins said on CNN.
"On the trade negotiation side, I don't think it's that difficult for Donald Trump to convince Mexico that it's in their best interest to reimburse us for building the wall."

Aside from that, the wall will stop millions of illegals, including terrorists, from entering. That's a yuge money saver too.

What they should do is catch them and put them in chain gangs to build The Wall - we'll need ditchdiggers and rock breakers somewhere along the way

There is something called tariffs. Just raise them a bit on imports from Mexico, and they will be paying for it.

Are you aware how much illegal immigration costs states? Some say over 100 BILLION a year. The wall will pay for itself in time.

So...the story is THE WALL construction will begin, ignore all the rest - the lying media spin doesn't matter.

The Tax on Remittances to Mexico ALONE should take care of it. More than $54 BILLION dollars a year they are sucking from us.

Mexico is rioting over gas prices not being subsidized anymore and the peso is crashing. The free ride they’ve enjoyed literally for decades is ending.

It’s Beginning: Economic Micro-Riots Erupt in Mexico

American taxpayers as voters have no idea of the scale for how much money flows out of the U.S. into Mexico. The reason no-one knows about it, and the reason economists cannot discuss it, is because the answer reveals a politically inconvenient discussion.

While the actual valuation of the outflow of dollars into Mexico is unknown, there are indicators it could be greater than our current economic trade deficit with China, $500+ billion.

Only a few indicators have ever reached visibility. One such indicator being the outbound U.S. Western Union wire transfers, remittances, which now exceed the entire Mexican Energy Sector (oil and gas) combined.

If accurate quantification was ever given sunlight, Americans, or more accurately ‘tax-paying Americans‘ would be able to see how much the United States actually subsidizes the nation of Mexico, and how much we’ve been ripped off

How many illicit pallets of U.S. dollars actually cross the southern border? No-one really knows that either. However, the scale of fraudulent U.S. treasury tax refunds to Mexican nationals is an order of magnitude greater than the quantifiable Western Union transfers.

“We’re talking about a multi-billion dollar fraud scheme here that’s taking place and no one is talking about it,” he said. The scheme involves illegal immigrants — illegal immigrants who are filing tax returns"

You issue bonds to the American public with 2.5% interest to raise the $11 billion it will cost to design and build the wall.

You pay the bonds back by reducing our foreign aid to Mexico ($40 million/year), taxing the wire-transfer money from U.S. to Mexico a small 1% fee, and you renegotiate NAFTA.

Wall paid for. End of story.

Ive been wanting to ask you guys, how effective do you think that wall will be ? Honestly...cause we have seen how improvisational folks can be about getting beyond obstacles.

Heres whats gonna happen with this wall.....its not going to be built. At least never a solid complete wall along the entire border. And if it is built the entire border, how much is it going to cost to maintain the wall ? Fissures, cracks deterioratioin or breaches will always be a problem. Folks that wanna get to this side will either tunnel under it, or go over it. BTW, the majority of immigrants that make their way into the country now are Asian immigrants and they aint coming thru Mexico's border.

Simple. You have a 1st stage fence with razor wire and a warning not to trespass beyond that point. Then you have infra red sensors to detect underground movement and motion-activated machine guns mounted on top of the wall. Asian immigrants are here Legally. And since they know math they get jobs and pay taxes.

You must watch a lot of movies.....

The fence will be protected by sharks with lasers.

That, and enforcing current immigration laws will do the trick. Unfortunately, the Democrats will suffer some election losses as a result.

Build it higher!

The Trump Effect?

Riots over gas price hikes in Mexico turn deadly

MEXICO CITY — Protests and looting fueled by anger over gasoline price hikes in Mexico have led to four deaths, the ransacking of at least 300 stores and the arrests of more than 700 people, officials said.

The country’s business chambers said the combination of highway, port and terminal blockades and looting this week forced many stores and businesses to close and threatened supplies of basic goods and fuel.

Maybe Mexico will take Cali and all the whiny dems

If you can believe this... and I don't even know what to say... NPR today (or yesterday, I can't remember), ran a story about the effects of the Ford decision to move its plant BACK TO THE U.S.A. had on the Mexican town where the plant there stopped construction.

It actually ran this story (with interviews of Mexicans) multiple times throughout the day. About how people they blamed Trump and hated their government for letting this happen.

This is our news now. Where bringing jobs BACK to America is made to feel guilty about the Mexican jobs lost..... Where having plant expansion and construction jobs for Americans comes now at a price of Mexican construction workers we should somehow feel sorry for.

I don't even know what to think or say anymore. Our society is lost.

What the **** am I even watching/listening to anymore? I try to be open minded. I really do. I try to listen to all the side and opinions. But when a major news organization that is one of the "moderate" new agencies left tries to run a story about how MEXICAN jobs are being lost while American jobs are being gained is just so wrong. Only a political objective agency could run a story like that. Only an editorial board that is against all things Trump and America could run a news story like that.

I give up. **** them all. Trump train baby! Let's see where the Nationalism really takes us....

If we needed Mexicans to help our economy then why is Mexico's economy a shithole?
