Just read it. No details yet but I guess Khan wasn't lying about wanting Mitch past this season.
Khan brought it up on the McAffee show today.

If they can get Mitch well under $8M per year, like the 4-5 that you suggested, well, that is much better. Two backups for under $6M is a very reasonable solution. That cap savings can go to upgrading a starting position. This would be a nice win for the Steelers. My guess is Rudolph is about 1.5 million as vet minimum and Mitch will sign for in the $4 to 5 million range plus incentives. If Kahn works his magic, maybe they can get his base closer to $3 million plus incentives based on amount of playing time. It sounds as if Mitch likes it in the Burgh and knows making even $3 million per is a nice living for being a backup.
They paid mason 5 million last year… id doubt they are going to offer less than that right nowMy guess is Rudolph is about 1.5 million as vet minimum and Mitch will sign for in the $4 to 5 million range plus incentives. It is kind of a gap between starters and backups
Starters are getting 25-60 million per year and backups are going to be in that 4-6 million range
I don't believe they restructured Watt (which I'm happy about) so they still could look at a big signing if they truly wanted. If they can get Mitch well under $8M per year, like the 4-5 that you suggested, well, that is much better. If this is matched with the Witherspoon cut, does freeing up that much space signal a significant FA signining?
Probably not but they can try with upfront money and incentives. It will be interesting to see what he does sign for. They paid mason 5 million last year… id doubt they are going to offer less than that right now
I just hope he isn't getting a raise!!Probably not but they can try with upfront money and incentives. It will be interesting to see what he does sign for.
I mean I don’t get his side if he signs… i mean anything past maybe 2 years would basically end any chance of him being a starter for the rest of his prime… and next season there should be a significant number of chances to compete for a starter role throughout the league….I am confused as F___. Unless they are giving him money upfront to lower his cap and spread his bonus out and then some ridiculous base pay or roster bonus forcing the team to re-up or cut him I just don't get it.
Exactly. So unless he was like well they aren't letting me walk so I better make the best of it. If he gets his salary up front and they put something like a roster bonus in the contract for March 2024 to force them to cut him then I can get it. He is guaranteed his 2023 salary so if he throws out his shoulder week one it doesn't matter he is still getting paid. And next year he will still be a free agent. Win/Win for him. For us we lower the cap and likely sign someone like High smith with the savings. I can understand that. But if we are extending him at like 8 million a season then that is just stupid for us.I mean I don’t get his side if he signs… i mean anything past maybe 2 years would basically end any chance of him being a starter for the rest of his prime… and next season there should be a significant number of chances to compete for a starter role throughout the league….
Of course you are. In your mind you convinced yourself some how that third stringer would be more than that. He isn't.I am confused as F___. Unless they are giving him money upfront to lower his cap and spread his bonus out and then some ridiculous base pay or roster bonus forcing the team to re-up or cut him I just don't get it.
Maybe it is settling in his mind that he isn't a starter and if he doesn't play his cards right he could bounce around the league to a quick exit.I mean I don’t get his side if he signs… i mean anything past maybe 2 years would basically end any chance of him being a starter for the rest of his prime… and next season there should be a significant number of chances to compete for a starter role throughout the league….
$5 million for a 3rd stringer that nobody else wants? They paid mason 5 million last year… id doubt they are going to offer less than that right now
Being a backup and a mentor to a young QB isn't such a bad thing. Mitch is obviously respected in the room. Named a captain before last season and didn't lose it after losing QB 1.Maybe it is settling in his mind that he isn't a starter and if he doesn't play his cards right he could bounce around the league to a quick exit.
Plus despite some bullshit reports Pittsburgh isn't such a bad place to be.

I was talking about what I think they are going to offer Mitch as a backup. … I doubt Mason signs for over 2 million… probably one and a half or so… and Mason is probably on another one year deal$5 million for a 3rd stringer that nobody else wants?
It is....His $7 million for this year will now change...It is going down several million...Great move by Khan. Omar kicked the can down the road, gave Mitch an extra year & at the same time we have a very good, & possibly one of the best #2 QB in the NFL...Unless the money is really right I just can't grasp this.
