Contract extension coming for Trubisky

wonder of MR would have signed if the Mitch extension happened last week. For the Steelers pretty good deal. 3 QBs who have started NFL games for under 10 m
Rudolph signed a one year deal, Trubisky was going to be here regardless of his new contract.

Hello McFly! Jeez! This is a very, very prudent move by Omar and the Steelers. We now have possibly the best backup QB in the league for three more years in the event Kenny misses any time.
And we have a guy at number three who knows our system and has notched a few wins in relief.
Y’all should be very happy about this.

I was hoping for more in the 5 range… 6.5 per year isn’t terrible… apparently if he becomes the starter he could earn 33 million… i was worried that was going to be the total deal tgey were going to give him… in this market 6.4 for an experienced backup is probably fair…

Id need to see details, but id expect this will open up up to 5.5 million in cap space this season depending on how they opted to structure it

I’ve got a feeling Mason Rudolf knew this was coming And he chose to sign anyway. Good for him.

As for Mitch, he didn’t seem to show very well initially but that could have been O’Canada / Tomlin in his ear about short passes and no turn overs.

To me, it’s O’Canada holding this team back and not the other-way around.

My guess is Rudolph is about 1.5 million as vet minimum and Mitch will sign for in the $4 to 5 million range plus incentives. If Kahn works his magic, maybe they can get his base closer to $3 million plus incentives based on amount of playing time. It sounds as if Mitch likes it in the Burgh and knows making even $3 million per is a nice living for being a backup.
Hold a surface pro, don’t take hits, be the rockstar beloved backup QB when you’re out and about town and have a healthy life after football…yeah you could do worse

Crazy that 6.5 per really isn’t that high of a number for a backup QB

Man the premium pay for QBs has really escalated but it is right about market value

this I know. but Mitch was on a 1 year deal as well.
And now he’s not, Mason still is. You’re questioning why Mason would agree to be (possibly) the third QB in 2023, and only 2023, if Mitch was signed to be the 2nd QB beyond that. Why would Mason care beyond 2023?

I believe I read Mitch's cap hit this year was set to be around $10 million. I am guessing they reduced that significantly.

Most definately. Kahn wouldn’t miss that opportunity to lower the cap hit, with a new contract.

I’d think that 9-10yr l hit went down to the first year hit of around 6-7mil.

You are right. I am questioning on amesaage board. Sorry I will not do that again.

This is a wise move by both sides. Mitch probably understands his role in the NFL and has accepted it as well as Khan/Weidel knows this as well. Trubisky most likely chose stability with one of the best organizations in the league.
Rather than being a journeyman backup and dragging his family from city to city, they may have grown to love Pittsburgh and chose to just raise their kids here.
His relationship with Pickett is a plus as well as familiarity with the core receivers.
I’m glad Mitch is a Steeler for the next 3 years.

actually, Dallas has the best #2 QB in the league, but they insist on him being their starter.

Step 1 Sign Mitch to a multi year deal
Step 2 Wait for a starting QB to get injured, or suck (Jordan Love?) in preseason
Step 3 Trade Mitch to desperate team
Step 4 if Pickett goes down we are stuck with Rudy the red nosed third stringer for a longer than desired time period.
Step 5 stock up at the local liquor 🥃 store it's going to be a long season.

Except Pickett hasn’t exactly proven himself much more than Love has. Let’s not count chickens on our own team.

You hope not but if someone offered up a 3rd for him, you'd have to seriously consider it. I doubt you'd get anything better than that.

How far could the team go with either Mitch or Mason? Either way is a higher draft pick, so better get the most out of it

I'd take a late 4th in a heartbeat

I dunno but maybe the better of the two could get enough wins to squeeze the team into the playoffs. Then anything is possible. I think I would be more comfy with Mitch being able to keep the team competitive in comparison.

I’ll question whether you question again or not………… that’s the question
