Steelers finalizing a new multi-year extension with CB Cortez Allen, per league source. Deal expected shortly.

Source: CB Cortez Allen & #Steelers have finalized a 4-year extension worth more than $26M. Ascending player.

Is Cortez Allen really worth that.

Jeepers, he's surely earned it. I guess as much as Marcus Gilbert has.

Next on the docket should probably be Landry Jones

Yes.

Is Cortez Allen really worth that.

He isn't as injury prone as he's made out to be.......he has good ball skills....and he is the size the Steelers covet in their corners. At that price I'd say it's a win win. You either pay him or Keenan Lewis. I think the Steelers are better off in the long run paying Cortez. The Steelers rarely give big contracts to more than one corner or wide receiver so this is it as far as that goes. They will sign a cheaper vet and draft a few more younger players and roll with that.

The difference is Keenan Lewis had a great year, Allen so far has been mediocre at best.

We have seen what happens when you sign cheaper vets

Lewis was also outstanding last year in NO. He's had two very good seasons, Allen has yet to string together one. But he's the one who gets paid.

I love how, now that we've hit sheer mediocrity, we start locking up this phenomenal core we've assembled.

Exactly and why I said is he worth it. We have turned into a team that way over pays mediocre Players just look at worilds. That is a terrible trend to get into

Keenan's stats haven't been spectacular. He's over hyped.

I think they were forced to sign him. Ike can't have more than a year or so left. They didn't draft a CB until the 5th round this year. Gay will be 30 years old in Jan. They really didn't have any choices.

LMFAO, Allens stats have been awful, he is not good enough to even be considered overrated.

Once again you don't pay big money to a guy just because he's the best you have. We haven't made the playoffs in three years and that trend will continue if we keep paying mediocre players big contracts

I was hoping 5 years 25 millions, but well, maybe after the cap rises this will be a bargain

If you actually go back and break down the games.....and not just sit here and ***** then you will see that Cortez was much better than mediocre the last few seasons. Was he spectacular? No. But he didn't get paid spectacular money either. He got paid what corners of his experience, production and skill set get paid. He's also only 25. He has a ton of room to grow. I don't think he's reached his ceiling yet. If he can develop into a corner who can shadow like Ike did then this will be a even more awesome and shrewd signing. You also just can't "compare stats". If you look at Ike Taylor numbers over the last 10 years he wouldn't look worth a **** most of those seasons based on his stats. But those of use who know better know what to really look at.

I'm not saying I agree with it. However I understand why they did it. They felt they had no options. My issue is that the reason they have no options is because they haven't drafted well. They don't value CBs so they don't draft them high. They knew this was coming years ago and did nothing about it. Drafting Richardson, Hawthorne, and Frederick late in the draft isn't going to cut it.

Bullshit, he was destroyed in the Vikings game and was a liability all year.

.

According to the text that just received from the Steelers... it is a 5-year contract. Waiting for details.

.

It is a four year extension, basically he was already signed for this year, they just added next four years to take us through to 2018

Please compare his stats to Allen. Who is better?

Don't know who's better until Allen gets a full injury free season in. But you guys keep hyping up Lewis like he's Richard Sherman. Look at his interception stats for starters, not in the elite category, average perhaps. Give Allen a full healthy season this year and you likely won't see a huge difference in stats between the two.

Again stats mean ****, Ike has been a very good CB without great stats, care to actually watch the game instead of spewing tripe?
