Cuts

I agree 100%. Moore, Seumalo, COle, Daniels, Chuks are your starters day one. Jones, Dots, Clark backups. Yes, I think they roll with 8 OL this season.
I think they roll with 9. I don't see them not going with 4 OT's on the opening day roster. Clark wins #4 by default and likely only dresses if someone gets banged up. The question I have is do the Steelers trade a guy like Kevin Dotson which would mean imo Green would stay and not dress unless injury. For whatever reason the Steelers are giving Green every opportunity to win a spot on the 53 man but he continues to fail. But it doesn't stop them from giving him more and more opportunities. I think they want him on the roster and the only way to ensure that and make an excuse is to trade Dotson. Hopefully, I am wrong but the fact they keep trotting Green out every preseason game and he eats up tons of snaps where guys like Anderson could be getting some valuable center snaps makes me believe they won't cut Green.

You know, the Steelers have had a ton of "red zone threats" over the years that weren't much of a threat at all. IMHO, if you're keeping a guy because he's a "red zone threat" you're wasting a roster spot.
Especially when you already have legitimate red zone threats already on the roster.

I think there is a very good chance, yes. I personally felt he should have been gone last season as he showed up to camp no bigger nor better (technique) than the previous year. How do you get pushed around like a chump and not hit the weight room and become an absolute monster? How do you enter the third season as a pro the same weight you were in college? But, tomlin has him running FB in specific packages for a reason, to keep this dead weight on the roster.

YOU might be right, but I’m looking for a more important need to be kept.

Green will be cut. He serves no purpose and would only rob a roster spot of another player more deserving. If he’s kept them as I’ve mentioned before it’s because of Tomlin’s stubbornness and unwillingness to admit he screwed up drafting this guy and making him Ben’s center. Ben still seems pissed about that move.

Herbig (the larger one) also makes the team. Not much room for Green.

The starting 5 are basically set for game 1
Broderick Jones makes it as the top backup T… for now … he should be starting late in the season unless Moore is really good

The top G/C backup wil be Herbig

The last spot is up for grabs
spencer Anderson has position flexibility.
Dotson is a good pure guard with a ton of starting experience
LeRaven Clark is an experienced Tackle
Ryan McCollum is a 23 year old Center with 1 start under his belt.
There are options outside of Green

With Anderson being able to play so many positions it wouldn't surprise me to see him stick and Clark getting the axe. 16 PS players you could just throw Clark there .

I think only two ps guys can be Vets… and i have a hunch he will get scooped up elsewhere if he gets cut, but yeah it would be a good idea if he could get signed there

Imagine one of these guys to get “CUT” in order to keep GREEN who didn’t dress an entire season.

Every one of these players have up-side, Green has peaked,

Green either never got a hat last year or barely got one. He has had two preseason games with multiple mental mistakes. He should have as close to zero chance of making this team as possible.

Green was drafted under the Colbert/ Tomlin regime. Swing and a miss. It happens.

I agree with DIC, he has peaked. We have seen everything he can do.

I don’t know if you can ever definitively say any third year guy has peaked but I can say its time to let someone else find out if they can straighten out his issues…

Its all mental stuff too. There are smaller Centers in the league. C is highly technical, Green loses focus or missteps and doesn’t recover correctly and gets beat , then lets it get to him and then either commits a stupid, unnecessary penalty or has a total brain fart with the snap.
Its no different than the year he started… though to his minor credit.. he has taken a ton of preseason snaps and has yet to totally come unhinged and take an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty yet… so some progress there

He could be scooped up with Ts always getting a close look over sure. But his play has been spotty this camp. If teams are scouting perhaps that scares them off.

I was thinking Gunner could potentially be the other PS vet if he gets caught in the numbers game.

Agreed madinsomniac, it is hard to definitely say a player has peaked. It’s easier to say we have seen what we need to see, is he worth a roster spot ? Is it worth keeping an up and comer off the team to hope for more out of him (Green) ? Will Green improve enough to satisfy what has been given up to keep him————- ?

I think (my opinion) he is NOT worth the roster spot. Even though the coaching staff has given him every chance under the sun, to make a case for him to stick. The FB experiment is just that, an experiment that I think has failed To a degree on no roster spot (We have a players who can play it the way it is meant to be played the very few times we actually use the FB ).

All that said, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him being kept………. For who knows what?

What does everyone think about the DL? I think Fehoko is a must-keep. He is the best and only true NT we have. He may not get sacks but he does get push in the passing game. He is a beast run stuffer and commands double teams. We haven't had anyone who can command double teams in the middle in what seems like forever. He is a Weidl type of guy but I think Tomlin is OK with a mediocre run stuffer who can a little more rushing the passer. They have enough of those guys. We need a big man in the middle. What say yins?

I think he is more useful against run heavy teams, useful in those type of matchups. I think he is valuable sure. Someone will be looking on the outside in do to cut or trade. I am thinking Loudermilk gets that call.

Green got thrown into the fire too early. So did Moore. But Moore steadily improved and will be continue to be a starter in this league. I'm hoping at right tackle next season.
Eh... That's an excuse Green's dad would give. I just think he's just plain awful.

Had Green been undrafted...signed just to kick the tires...he'd be outa here by now.

I think he was thrown in too early but that didn't impact his development or lack thereof. He was is an undersized G that couldn't make the transition to C. It was unrealistic for the team to think he was ready to throw into the fire. That was their fail. The rest is on KG.

This exactly. I'm not making excuses for Green. He is too small to play guard and not good enough at centre. That is on him. However, being a third round pick moved to centre and starting game one did not help.

I agree for the same reasons. They also have Benton, who offers a bit more pass rushing upside even as a rookie, so I believe you balance it out with a pure run stuffer.

Yeah. The whole idea that they could draft a guard who is small, and make him a center was dumb. There were dozens of centers out there still. Not great ones, but centers none-the-less. I still shake my head at that pick. I feel bad for the dude. He is small, so that is an issue, and he was asked to do something he rarely did. I bet he tries hard. It's just not his game. Let's make him a punt returner, maybe?

Stupid.

We have two amazing red zone threats with a Pickens and Washington, let’s see than Canada/Tomlin can use them before we sweat an XFL scrub fizzling out

I’d hate to give Captain Crayon too many red zone threats and have him suffer from analysis through paralysis of whether to use the blue crayon or the red crayon…if there’s a yellow in the box too his head could explode
