Daring to be positive ...

First game this year I was actually optimistic. And it started the second they put Kenny in. Unfortunately the D in pass coverage does this team no favors. But that won't lessen my enthusiasm with the new QB under center. He will have growing pains. But his future looks bright.

I just hope Pickett doesn't have to wear "Shades" the rest of his career.......................................

Hell, in that preseason prediction thread, I predicted us to go 1-3, make the switch to Pickett and tgen go 12-1 down the stretch… it was a joke, but right now i have a chance to be a regular Notra-dumb-*** lol… lets hope the staff makes me look psych-O

Sounds good to me.................................... LoL

Winning 6 o 7 games (or more) might be worst case scenario. Enough to maybe save some coaching jobs and not get a good draft pick.
Worst or best? Anything is possible with this coaching squad.

So, a game with a lot of bad. Bad (terrible) coaching. Bad receiver play and tight end play. Defense finding a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. But, I would posit, should you be looking for some positives, as follows: 1) Pickett is the real deal (the deliver to Muth and taking the hit was all-pro level); 2) talented but young wrs and tes that can fix those errors; and (3) a future Watt return = "a chance."

Hey, it all sucks. But, if we can get 2 and 2 over the next 4 and Watt comes back, there is a chance. And as a long Steelers fan who has seen the best and the worst, I will always take a chance. Pickett and Pickens have some mojo. Pickett and Muth and Diontae will get some mojo (not sure about Chase to be honest), and that will all be better for the defense (albeit, Spillane and Bush remain a terribly week point and the coaching decisions to go to zone are questionable at best) but I IN THIS LOSS I see hope.

You may not, I get it, but I am on board for what is to come.
What is to come in the next four games is a visit to Buffalo (3-1), a home game against the Bucs (2-2), and two road games at Miami (3-1) and Philadelphia (4-0). It's nice to have optimism, but realistically, it's a stretch to believe that the Steelers can win twice in October against these opponents without TJ Watt.

Had Tomlin given Pickett the reps for ten days and then started him against the Jets, they'd be 2-2 and feeling a lot better about themselves. That was the perfect opportunity to get his rookie QB some confidence and momentum going into a tough spot at the Bills. But he didn't, and now he won't even name a starter. Sad.

No he has the head coach for that. He is the ultimate cool rider.

At this point I would be surprised if the team won any of those four games. I am thinking any games won will come after that stretch.

That 0-7 record without Watt doesn't inspire much hope for me, either. His replacements have been largely invisible.

I might be more confident if Witherspoon was healthy and playing like he did last year. But he isn't and as you mentioned Watt out and Kaz too, mixed in with the constant over rotation of players. Which probably is a even bigger reason to not have much faith. They aren't putting the best players in a position to succeed and that is on both sides of the ball.

Wish I could be positive, but there just too many things wrong with this team.. OL can't run block, receivers can't catch or won't fight for the ball, DL... Cam is looking his age, no TJ, Bush sucks, ....its just gonna be a bad year.

Captain obvious here - There is a lot of parity in the NFL these days some teams that have no business winning win games and to that point others lose games they have no business losing. It is true that coaching and ball deflections change the course of a game. Of course, referees do their job to screw teams over. Some players may lose motivation or play with undisclosed injuries. Of course, being encumbered with nitwit coaching doesn't help. Get a proper defensive co-ordinator and lose that clown Canada and maybe the Steelers will improve their odds of a win or two going forward but keeping this standard as the standard will not result in a winning football program.

I think we still have a chance to turn it around
After this abysmal start we’re still only 1 game back

If they stick with Pickett, the OL continues to gel, Matt Canada steps in front of a bus and we get some guys back from injury we have a puncher’s chance

Again, Tomlins schemes are reliant on exceptional players playing exceptionally…. Go back to yesterday … the jets were down to like a fifth string LT and bleeding Olinemen like there was no tomorrow… we almost always sent 4 or fewer rushers on passing downs… always two dlinemen and mostly just the two outside lbs…

The one thing about Tomlin teams is they tend to win the games they aren’t supposed to… I would not be surprised if we go 3-1 through this stretch and are at 500 for the bye week.. this year the league is complete parity, and maybe parody depending on what flawed teams make the playoffs… lol

Well, we handled the Bills last year, so it truly is possible.

I agree with you on the defense coordinator. Terrell Austin was a stupid hire and was not very successful in Cinci. I would rather see Brian Flores run the defense with no interference from Tomlin. And please abandon this stupid zone crap.

That was with BigBen. If they trot Mitch out there you can chalk a L in every game he starts and finishes in that stretch.

one positive, We have a new gun slinger in town. Build around him and the D, get rid of Claypool and Bush, draft OT and a true starting ILB to play next to Jack

You nailed it Litos

Next draft should see an OT, DT and ILB first 2 days followed by another OL somewhere on day 3.
We need to quick neglecting the OL and the middle of the D.
Strength in the trenches and rebuild an *** whoopin' identity

Very true. And just putting everything out of my mind about Ben, the first thing that flashes back in my mind is this... when I think of winning games we were losing with Ben, it was always like he was unchained and "allowed" to do his thing late in the game. And then, in the presser, he would say "It wasn't a pretty win, but we'll take it". How many times did that happen? I mean, seriously...it seems like at least 10 years. This has to be on play calling whoever is doing it.

Here's another thought...sorry guys, I can't help it.

After seeing Cam's presser I felt like he was just going through the motions of doing what he has to do being a Captain and all. To me, it seemed like he was holding something back after this last game (loss). And that was before I saw the posts about Minkah and what he said.

Cam

If history is any indication, we have a good chance of finishing .500 or better. That 17th game could end up tarnishing Mike’s legacy.

I hear ya, but these days non losing seasons are getting old, annoying, and almost embarrassing.

Heck, we may be the only fanbase in the history of the NFL to begin wearing bags for never having a losing season!! lol
