First off I’m still pumped we finally draft an elite OT. Really have high hopes for the kid.

The draft really couldn’t have finished any better for the Steelers. A ton of directions we could go with the picks. I’m all for trading down but not at the expense of missing out some players. Of course first off I can’t believe Porter Jr. is still on the board as well as Branch. Cam Smith, Keion White, & Benton are names to keep an eye out on as well. Stevenson is the dark horse and could see them passing on Porter and Smith to trade out for extra picks and take Stevenson. While they are at rebuilding the oline why not draft Schmitz from Minnesota?

If it were my choice, I take DT Ika with #32 and hope that Branch or JPJ make it to #49.

I also package the 2 7th picks and try to move up from 80 and call it a day

I like Cody Mauch at some point in the 2nd.
At this point i try to trade back into the 4th and 5 th rounds and take another Tackle or oline guy later… we have invested a 4.th and first and a ton of ufa assets into the Oline..no need to put another premium pick in it… there are some great later round options that fit the down the road needs on the oline… we don’t need another absolute starter this year… i mean if a guy falls down to the third maybe… but otherwise lets get depth in other places… two of our three top cbs will be free agents next year… and the other will be 34. Get a good solid cb prospect in the mids and get another late…

Ika’s stock dropped after the combine… he is expected to go in the 3rd or 4th now… 32 seems high if we wanted him… trade down and then still get him at 49

I think it could have finished better if they hadn't given away their fourth round pick to move up three slots. I like Jones a lot, but I would have stood pat and rolled the dice that either he or Gonzalez would still be there at #17. Washington (for some reason) took Forbes ahead of Gonzalez, so that's one slot used. Worst case scenario, they still have Banks or Harrison to choose from.

As far as the 32nd pick, the Steelers have a bunch of choices. I can't believe Mayer didn't get drafted in the first round. He is a complete tight end. Frieiermuth is good, but with his injury history, the lack of depth at the position, and how often the Steelers run two-TE sets, it would be hard for me to pass on Mayer. Realistically, it's probably Branch or Porter (I'm not as high on Porter as most, I think he's way too handsy). But I'd entertain some trade offers, try and get some day 3 picks back, and pick up Drew Sanders a little later in round 2. Their depth is razor-thin at OLB, and this guy can already rush the quarterback, with tons of upside if he puts on some weight. Keion White would also be a consideration in a trade-down scenario.

Should be interesting.

There is no way that either Branch or Porter make it to #49. Can't see it happening.

Wow Eagles draft was good, that defense will be scary.
With Levis and hooker still on the board, 32 could be a trade down.
I really like Branch and would want him to be our pick if we stay, wouldn't be upset with porter jr here.
My want list in order for our two 2nd round picks
S- Banks
CB - Porter JR
DT - Benton
DE - White
LB - Simpson
CB - Ringo
LB - Sanders
DT- Dexter
CB- Stevensen
TE - Washington

I'm good with those guys in the 2nd. I figure they'll take Porter at 32, then a DE/DT.

If Washington makes it to us after Porter,he would be hard to pass up since they could use him in the running game too. I'm hoping that's the mindset to get back to being a physical kind of team.

Per the draft value chart, we could trade 32 to the Texans for (3) #65 (3) #73 & (4) #104 and be pretty even. I would also try to squeeze (4) #105 out of them. Would you take that if there is a QB or someone else they want?

Hell, no! 32 is essentially a first round pick. You'd give it up for a couple 3rds? I wouldn't let it go for less than somebody's next year's #1.
I think we're looking at Peezy Jr

Dawand Jones is still out there. A lot of people were really high on the big fat dominant guy... replace 2 bad tackles in one draft... I wouldn't be unhappy

There were rumors we took him off of our draft board. He definitely is a pure RT… and we could use an upgrade there, but honestly at 375 lbs his ankles and knees might be a problem sooner rather then later .. 320 is usually where the nfl likes its tackles… too much bigger and they lose that outside quickness they need too early in their careers if they ever had it to begin with…

Again these charts are general guidelines and rarely actually used… and tgere are several different ones…

The trades yesterday didn’t even remotely follow any of them

No trade down. We need quality over quantity. JPJ has to be the pick. CB was probably our No. 1 area of need. He slid from a mid-first-round grade into the 2nd. He'd be great value at 32. And, that would address our top 2 areas of need with the first 2 picks. The pick should be a no-brainer. Stevenson is not the guy. That would be a reach at 32 as would Benton. If Benton is there at 49, this draft would instantly be no worse than an A grade.

I agree, but if they take Branch at 32, I wouldn't be all that upset.

Any relation to Carl Mauch, Center for the Houston Oilers? Of course it would probably have to be his grandson.

The Texans went QB with pick #2

I only trade 32 if it is to slip back a few spots and pick up at least a couple of additional picks

S isn't even a top 6 area of need. Sure, they could use depth and he can play nickel but I'd still put JPJ way ahead of him. If he's there at 49, sure. But, we need CB and DL for sure with our next 3 picks and hopefully with our next 2 picks and this draft will be considered a success - at least until we see how all the picks pan out in a few years.

Too many players we need left for us to trade out of 32. JPJ is a first-round grade at our biggest area of need. Easy choice. We can still get 2 starters or significant contributors for this year with our 2 2nd round picks. You probably aren't getting that in the 3rd or 4th rounds.

Nope. Guaranteed Jets take Broderick Jones and Patsies take Gonzalez if they stay at 14.

Both would be gone by 17. Jones is athletic, a great run blocker, gave up exactly 0 sacks last season playing in what I heard is a conference with some decent pass rushers. Oh, and he had 2 penalties all year.

0 sacks and 2 penalties in a season? Dan Moore had more combined in several games last year.

As much as it's tempting to trade down, the spots we drop and the compensation we get back has to worth it. I wouldn't fall more than 3-5 spots. It seems that the Steelers are never in a position like this, so they have to be smart here. If they like JPJ and think he'll be there a little later on then trade back, but make it worth their while. Otherwise, make your pick. Gonna be interesting to what they decide to do.
