And a delayed pick by a year. Trust me, it would be a serious blunder.then it would be a 5-year contract vs a 4-year contract.

maybe not. a first round pick next year would be absolute leverage to move up even further in the first. And a delayed pick by a year. Trust me, it would be a serious blunder.
Trust me
Again, I really like Jones. You don't have to convince me.Nope. Guaranteed Jets take Broderick Jones and Patsies take Gonzalez if they stay at 14.
Both would be gone by 17. Jones is athletic, a great run blocker, gave up exactly 0 sacks last season playing in what I heard is a conference with some decent pass rushers. Oh, and he had 2 penalties all year.
0 sacks and 2 penalties in a season? Dan Moore had more combined in several games last year.
per ESPN, the best player available is Levis. Obviously an error since Hendon Hooker is available.
that said, you have to look at how far back you'd drop and have a handful of guys you're interested in making it to where you drop.
So, say a team wants a QB - Rams, New Orleans, Tennessee, Green Bay come to mind.
Rams would be ideal, since dropping back is only 4 spots. But, they're likely also aware no other team between us and them is taking a QB. They might get scared that they get leapfrogged, though.
I would most definetly take a next years number one and a number 5 this year for number 32.Do you trade #32 for a 1st rd next yer and additional picks this year?
This is essentially a first rd pick. That is what it is worth. The interest on that pick is going to be additional picks this year, and one today.
Anything less and it is hello JPJ or BB.
Good point... maybe don't make that trade with KC.Uh, and what if that pick turned out to be #32?
I’d love to get JPJ but the tape on Branch, against a lot of good teams, is too much to ignore. And it is still an area of significant need. I am with ya.Branch has to be the pick if we stand pat…
I like the way your thinking Ike...Unless Omar is completely blown away with an offer I’d opine he is staying put. Porter has talent but he does not fit our system. It’s documented his back pedal is atrocious and would be a serious hole in boundary coverage. Plus, he does defend the pass well (20+ PD), but doesn’t catch many.
To that end, draft Branch who has played everywhere and is a starting nickel corner RIGHT NOW. Super smart, basically another Minkha from Saban. Then grab either Drew Sanders or Keanu Benton at 49. If Sanders is gone grab Daiyan Henley at 80 for the future ILB. He plays a lot like Shazier did.…..fast and hard.
Filled OT. DB be it Porter or Branch is a need do you want to miss out on that? None of the rest require a starter or even an immediate backup.WE needed a OT, CB, ILB, DL and Safety. If we don't trade down we only fill 4 of 5 Needs unless we get real lucky in the 7th. I am for a trade down.
I would trade him if there was a taker. But it would have to be a 5th or higher. Or a move up in 3.So anyone think we trade Dotson today or tomorrow? Or do we wait until camp ends to make sure everyone is healthy?
I don't think I want Porter honestly and I think Stevenson should be the pick. He or another good Corner will be there if we swap picks within 10 slots.Filled OT. DB be it Porter or Branch is a need do you want to miss out on that? None of the rest require a starter or even an immediate backup.
I am ok with him. I think they go defense or trade down but I wouldn't be upset with Mayer.Screw it. I'm gonna say it. You have a lock stud there with Michael Mayer at 32. You can play a ton of 12 personnel. The kid can block he can catch great and in 12 he would be a red zone nightmare. Just do that. I know they have other needs. You are not getting a player like that at tylhat kinda spot again. Gentry is 150k cut
Good point... maybe don't make that trade with KC.
It wasn't on that list, but OLB needs an immediate backup. Or two.Filled OT. DB be it Porter or Branch is a need do you want to miss out on that? None of the rest require a starter or even an immediate backup.
I like Branch's versatility. He could probably start as a nickel corner on day one, and also be the first option off the bench at either safety position if Minkah or Kazee get injured. Porter is strictly a cornerback, and an unpolished one at that. They still have Levi Wallace as their third corner, and he's plenty good to fill that role. Our needs heading into the draft were CB, OT, and DL. After that, we needed depth at OLB and ILB. Depth at WR and S were next but only because we signed Robinson otherwise WR would be in the top 6 needs. S is maybe our No. 6 need if you would even call it a need. I'd be happy if they picked Branch but JP is the better pick for value and based on CB being our top need. They must get a CB that can contribute this year. Peterson is the best we have and he could be done at any second based on his age. After that, we barely have some CB2's on the team. CB was the one position you could easily see them double-dip this year.
Who do like the most Mayer? As in who would be on top of your board at this point?Tight Ends
Michael Mayer, TE - A legit TE1 for a team and transform the Steelers' offensive scheme
Darnell Washington, TE - High for him given he's a blocker first, receiver second. Needs to proven his receiving ability.
Offensive Line
Joe Tippmann, Steve Avila, John Michael Schmitz - Centers fall in the draft and they have Mason Cole, so it's not an immediate need.
Dawand Jones - Maybe lock in bookend tackles?
Defensive Line
Keeanu Benton - After Mazi Smith went, Benton is next in line for IDL, so you may need to get him at 32 rather than 49.
EDGE
Derick Hall, BJ Ojulari, there are some talented options here.
Defensive Backs
Joey Porter Jr. again is the obvious choice because of the Pittsburgh connection. The Steelers have invested in a QB, WR, OT recently and have two good EDGE defenders. Cornerback is the one missing premium position without a high investment. If not Porter, Julius Brents and Cam Smith. Also, is the Tyrique Stevenson interest real? Could DJ Turner be a surprise pick this early?
Brian Branch is going to be a good player, but the Steelers like athletic players and I don't know if they'll value a safety, even though he has nickel capability.
Who do I NOT want?
Trenton Simpson. Just not into getting an ILB right here, particularly a guy who probably won't play to his athleticism.
If they stay put, I'd be OK with Mayer or Branch. Other than the name recognition, JP not so much. But if they do go Mayer, I think they have to address needs on the D at 49.I've said I want the Steelers to build the offense around Pickett so I'm going to commit to that with saying Mayer is at the top of the rankings. I think they could get one of the top three centers at 49.
Not only do Mayer and Branch have really good upside, but they have high floors as well, IMO. Then again, they are lower value positions. If they stay put, I'd be OK with Mayer or Branch. Other than the name recognition, JP not so much. But if they do go Mayer, I think they have to address needs on the D at 49.
