Dick LeBeau Out as Defensive Coordinator

And if they are a little upset ...WHO CARES. Harrison probably will not be back. Kiesel just might retire. So we move on .....finally.

Well..probably nobody. I was just making an observation because they love the guy and see him as a father figure.

Maybe the younger guys couldn't relate to a 77-year old guy that was their coach? Who knows how they think? You'd think football is football and the vets would explain the legend that is, Dick LeBeau, if they didn't already know. I do agree about drafting the toughness that we are lacking. Without Harrison and Keisel bringing in their vet leadership, I shiver to think where this team would have ended up.

Eagles should hire him immediately. They have been trying to get the 3-4 working there. Hire Lebeau to mentor the coaches and teach the system.

This.

We gotta stop living in the past. I appreciate all that DL has done- a true legend in the NFL.

But the zone blitz aint exactly a revolutionary scheme anymore.

The game didn't pass lebeau by, that's the dumbest thing ever, give him 08 harrison and woodley and our defense is a ton better, even with this crappy secondary.

There are a shortage of effective pass rushing OLBers available..... I agree with what you are saying somewhat............. I have so many mixed emotions on this subject.........

Like a long standing marriage where there was deep love and admiration coming to a end...........

That shouldn't matter. They spend most time with their position coaches. Lebeau mostly coaches the coaches on the defensive side and calls the plays.

Yea, you're right. I was going about the conversation about the younger players tuning DL out. Hard to imagine that happening. I don't think he had the players to fit his scheme. Players out of position to cover for others, weak secondary, etc.

REX RYAN....come on down!

While you made a joke...I'd consider this FULLY, but it's not my decision.

Rex would bring a hybrid defense to the players on this roster. He'd also veto to get some QUALITY CB's in the roster.

Just let it marinate before you put this option to bed...

Rex will never DC again. It's HC or TV..that's it.

think Rex wants a HC-ing gig

but he wouldn't be a bad option............

yes I agree Change was needed but what you need is guys like Joey Porter, Greg Lloyd, James Harrison, Kevin Greene, Jason Gildon, Lamarr Woodley......not fineness OLB's like Jarvis Jones, Ryan Shazier, Jason Worilds. Speed is not what you need on the edge for a 3-4 Defense. You need nasty guys who are solid in run support and can fight through O-linemen and get to the QB. 40 times just don't matter for LB'ers in the NFL. Shazier runs what a 4.4? Give me a guy who can fight off double teams and is good in run support instead of someone super fast. In the NFL 4.8 in the 40 is good enough. The guys the Steelers have given LeBeau to work with are completely the opposite of what works for a 3-4 Defense.

So to sit there are blame LeBeau it just seems unfair to me when the guy doesn't have the players needed to make the 3-4 work.

Though none of us really know what goes on behind closed doors, I tend to agree with this. Tomlin has a "vision" of what kind of defense he wants...athletic, fast, "splash" type players within the system. He drafts those guys and expects the coordinators to make their systems work with those players.

I think LeBeau was a scapegoat. It's obvious those players don't work in a 3-4. I don't think keeping Butler as a DC will change that...nor would any coordinator with a 3-4 base...like Haslett, for instance. I predict they go outside the organization. If they don't things wont change. If they do, we're in for years of growing pains.

Change was needed. It's a shame most of us loved Dick. We need to go in a new direction. Dick just couldn't fix the problem areas we have had the last few years. I hope the next guy doesn't have our CB's playing 7-8 yards off the receiver on a 3rd and 2. It seemed like Dick had them playing to let the receivers catch the ball and hope for a mistake. I just hope whoever they get does the job, and bring back that old dominating stingy D..

Thanks for everything Dick...you're the best...how soon do we go 4-3?

Dick did not have the players to run the defense we had in the past. He deserves a lot of respect and him saying he is resigning and not retiring say plenty on the new Rooney running the Steelers. Thanks. Dick

The writing was on the wall...still sad to see LeBeau go. He is a living legend and will forever be considered one of the greatest D coordinators...ever. Everything has to come to an end someday, his time was now. Once the dust settles, the task at hand is to rebuild this D into something more aggressive, more hard-hitting, more turnover-inducing... looking forward to a revamped D to go along with our high powered offense.

Not going to matter cause our talent level is low.

Game passed him by great job coach but ya got to win the line of scrimmage you could have caried less about it not so sure that was smart

The defense is close to being rebuilt.

DL: Tuitt, McLendon, Heyward
LB: ??? Timmons, Shazier, Jones
DB: Allen, Thomas, Mitchell, Gay

You're looking at a need at LOLB and potential upgrades at CB and S, but overall, many pieces already in place. From what we've seen, many of those pieces do not fit under the description of "aggressive," "hard-hitting" or "turnover-inducing."

not necessarily true
there is some good free agents available
2 could solidify a D if the right players.........
