Dionte Johnson apparently was a problem.

I wouldn't call myself a hater. I don't like his antics and once I've seen the movie a few times I know how it ends. If you think he is on the same planet as AB talent wise you are quite the lover. That guy was as good as it gets at the height of his skill. Whole route tree. Impossible to cover if the play broke down and Ben bought time.
GP is definitely a higher “talent” level imo
He’s always open-bigger catch radius, better size, better leaping ability and far better body control. The guy is a cat in the air.

AB was a much harder worker and better route runner-higher effort level, a try hard guy he hit the jugs and learned his craft as he wasn’t blessed with the same talent/natural ability.

GP doesn’t need to run routes as well as he’s gifted with a much larger body, leaping ability and catch radius so he leans on his ability/talent.

If GP were to dedicate himself with the work ethic AB had in his prime it wouldn’t even be close, but he likely never will as his natural ability/talent level is higher than ABs was, thus AB achieved results through hard work until he went bat **** crazy after the Birthdefect hit whereas GP relies on his talent.

And damn straight I love watching GP, he’s worth the price of admission and our best weapon.
Also like watching Najee when he’s dominant as our 2nd best weapon.
Also believe in keeping talent in the building…but I like having a lot of talent on the team as it makes the games more fun to watch
and gives the team a better chance at winning.

Yeah I like Pickens but he is no AB not even close. Just referencing his on the field play.

I think he can still use some route running development, not sure where he tops out at.

As far as another contract sure but do it off production where he is not where he might end up being. Then I have no issues with the re-up.
His output isn’t the same yet true, his first 3 years will be better than ABs were…as they already are at 2.5 than ABs full 3. Mind you that is with 2 years of Canada/KFP

AB really came on in years 4-9 with the benefit of a HOF QB and averaging about 165 targets per year in that time frame. I don’t think GP will ever get targets like that in the AS offense. AB was an extreme high usage receiver.

AB had Ben and a legit OC so we aren’t comparing apples to apples when one guy has Canada/T-biscuit/KFP…barely comparing a fruit to a vegetable.

GP Definitely could use some route running development and seems to be improving this year with the better coaching staff, but he’s far from a finished product relying on his insane natural ability.

If he puts that skill in his bag I have zero doubts he rivals or beats AB’s years 4-9 even with a lesser QB than Ben, cuz let’s face it the QB won’t be as good as Ben.

We’re watching a guy like we haven’t seen before as far as talent level goes, it’s undeniable.

Definitely some things to like and it isn’t like he has a lot of supporting cast to help take away some of the looks he receives from defenses. What I like from him is his hands and ability to flow to the ball.

He can make a QB look better as you can throw it up open or covered and he has a high chance of coming down with that football. If he further develops his route running skills look out.

Perhaps an AB comparison to him was a little unfair as AB was angling towards being the best WR ever if not top two. High football standards to live up to or compare to.

The best part of arguing concerns about GP is he will do something in the next two weeks to make your point. If not today.

is DJ the only receiver in all of football "known for his route running"

I never hear that for anyone else

if I was a receiver, I'd want to be known for my catching the football or running North after a reception
Really? I hear it a lot when people are talking about draft prospects. It’s important for getting separation and being where the QB thinks a receiver is going to be.

Pickens QBs have been.....

AB's QBs....Ben.

Probably has a lot to do with the end product.

Don't sell Pickens short.

I elaborated as the discussion went on. I am not selling him short just call it as it is for now.

DJ today had 2 targets 0 receptions. Both balls overthrown.....one was a sure TD is Lamar drops it in because he beat his man clean....had a good 3-4 yards on him wide open.

i understand the importance of running a proper route, but that is comparing a draft prospect to a 6yr vet.

At some point, let's progress past the ability to run a route.

Well he wasn't a problem today.

DJ actually had a big pass go through his hands, was catchable.

You’re right though, not a problem today……………..
