Does Jimmy Garoppolo Make Sense for the Steelers?

I wouldn't hate JG if trade and contract price was right. But Slash I think you need to see the big picture here. If this team is kinda entertaining and kinda a playoff contender all the time, they will never get where you wanna go. They need to eat it a bit for a couple years. Get the right guy. If indeed Rudolph is not a starter spend next year finding out. If he isn't you will land where you need to be to get his replacement.

Guys, please, Jimmy G is not worth a second round pick. He’s nothing more than a game manager who has a history of getting injured.
Ever since Belicheck drafted this guy out of Eastern Illinois he’s done nothing but prop this guy up to be something he’s not. He’s average and that’s really all he is.
We are not a Jimmy G. away from competing with the likes of the Bengals, Chiefs, Bills, or even the soon to be health Ravens, Chargers. or Raiders,
Spend the premium picks on the OL and DL and look at a bridge type QB in Trubiskie, Winston, or even Marriotta which will cost zero draft capital. Please don’t trade for Jimmy G.

Remember the year with Rudolph and Duck? I can't be so sure they even get that right. This team is the twilight zone mixed with groundhog day until you replace what needs replaced. Not really sure at this point what could bring about change. Not so sure starting Rudy would be the ticket some think it would be.

I’m ok if God forbid we have a losing season or two to draft much higher and get our QB in the 2023 or 2024 drafts. Afterall, were we not 6-10 when we drafted Ben #11? No one ever thinks about the 2003 season when we were 6-10 but only those years we had with Ben from 2004 to 2021.
Not sure what anyone sees in Marriotta besides the ability to scramble.
Jimmy G is NOT very good. In fact, he has been mediocre, at best. I would stick with Rudolph or sign Trubisky or another free agent that might still have some upside. Don't waste draft picks and capital on a guy who is barely a game manager.
I'm thinking if we get a vet QB it will be Trubisky or Carr.

I’m not a real big fan either, just thought I would throw him in the mix. I really want them to sign Trubiskie whom I think can come in, win the job, and play well for us. I like his numbers with the Bears, a couple playoff appearances and a Pro Bowl. I think the year in Buffalo working behind Josh Allen really helped him as well.
I have some interest there and would be ok with this approach. Not high on the want list but still on the list of who I think would be a roster upgrade.
That year should have netted them the kid starting for the Chargers. Instead they traded it away to win 8 games. If you are talking about Tomlin that is a seperate matter. But in the end they have to build towards a championship caliber team. Not a 9 win maybe 10 win team.
Carr isn't a free agent so he won't be cheap. At his age, no way, I'm giving up top picks and a big cap hit. I'd seriously be looking at Trubisky to come in and compete. He would be cheap. We should be able to get him on like a 3 or 4-year deal that is incentive-laden to pay him more if he wins the starting job. He'll definitely be looking for a place he has a chance to be a starter. I'd be on the phone with his agent the second we can. The right deal makes it easy for us to walk away and sweetens the pot for him if he wins the starting job. We really only definitely need a two or three-year stop gap even if we do cave and draft a QB this year. They will need to sit for at least a year.

That's so easy to say looking back on things. The Steelers had one of the worst offenses you'll ever see, yet even without trading for Fitzpatrick, that team doesn't finish 5-11. Duck Hodges started 6 games. They should've went 0-6 during those games and instead went 4-2 with him.
But that was and is the point. Wow they got to 8-8 whoooohooo. They didn't have a draft pick after. They got beaten at home embarrassingly by the Browns the next year in the wildcard round and snuck in this year and got boot ******. Now they are gonna back up the armored car for Fitzpatrick. What do they have to show for the trade?

I am looking at it a different way. With or without Fitzpatrick, the team was still too good to go 5-11 or worse.
I disagree. The team came together immediately upon his arrival. Unfortunately he does not play QB.

Duck was actually 3-3 as a starter, not 4-2. But he did have a total passer rating of 101.8 in those three wins, with a low game of 87.9 (which is higher than Ben's season average of 86.8 this past year).
As far as Garoppolo goes, I have no idea why the Steelers would want to give away their #2 pick for a pedestrian quarterback without mobility who is scheduled to count nearly $27 million against the cap in 2022. Makes zero sense.
Well of course that would be contingent on the other moves of solidifying the lines. Not sure the Oline is ok for any QB minus an attack the unit in at least free agency. QB/C/RG should be the quickly addressed three amigos. Followed by RT and CB. You could say the band of the hand needs to take place. If not then Bob Nutting the approach like last season and don't even bother bringing in a QB that strength isn't mobility. Thing is Rooney is already on record in saying they desire a QB that scrambles to pass not run. So they better fix the Oline or whoever they put back there will be doing a lot more running than passing. They don't have the luxury of one of the quickest releases in the NFL anymore to mask their horrific.

Slash, IMO even if we had the Colts OL, Jimmy G wouldn’t make it through 6 AFCN games. I’ve watched him since he was at NE, he has skills, but is a China doll. He’s only had two seasons in which he’s lasted as the starter. That’s in eight years. He’s had all kinds of injuries. Almost like Mariota when he was at TEN. No giving up draft capital and no way to that salary, even if restructured. I’d take Trubisky as a placeholder and competition to Mason and Haskins over Jimmy G.

Who is most likely to take us to, and win a SB… Jimmy G., Rudolph, or Haskins? None of them…but two are already on our roster, so why bring in another? Actually, I believe the only one with the potential MIGHT be Haskins, but he has yet to prove his worth.
Well you know Jimmy took his team pretty far in the playoffs. So that is a known compared to probably nots. I get injury concerns which is legitimate but putting him on even par with the QBs we have is really IMO a stretch comparison.
Jimmy is one of those QB's that you can win games as he won't make too many mistakes but he isn't going to win very many games for you. The 9ers have been winning this year with their D and their running game with the occasional throw by Jimmy G. He is not worth top draft picks and a large cap hit when we have probably a 2-year window to really rebuild the team.
