C'mon. I never understood this whole "win a playoff game" crap. They win one, might as well keep going or it still is a missed opportunity. It's about championships around here, right? How many playoff games have been won by QB's that weren't great?

at this point, it's about progress. sure, we want to see them play in, and win, the Superbowl, let's not be disingenuous here. at the very LEAST, you have to start somewhere, and that "start" is winning a freaking playoff game. they aren't even coming close to being competitive when they DO make it to the postseasonC'mon. Man, I'd love to know what Chicago was going to offer for Tomlin when they called this past off-season.
If this was a young team, perhaps I could see that argument. It isn't. The QB is probably going to be different next year, as well as most of the defensive backfield, for example. Winning a playoff game and nothing else means nothing. This is a year to year team right now the way they are doing it.at this point, it's about progress. sure, we want to see them play in, and win, the Superbowl, let's not be disingenuous here. at the very LEAST, you have to start somewhere, and that "start" is winning a freaking playoff game. they aren't even coming close to being competitive when they DO make it to the postseason
It sure is, errrr was, but I'm talking about his ex players and some national guys saying he shouldn't be expected to win in the playoffs without having a QB, why? Other coaches have done it.C'mon. Fans should strike while the iron is warming to a very cool temperature with the “fire Tomlin” chants should his historic D start ******** the bed vs the Colts…maybe after the first embarrassing TD as a guy breaks wide open
That would be 6 years ago, today they wouldn't get a bag of Frito's for him.Me too, trade him now while you can still get something. His stock is falling the longer this defense gets blown.
I’m guessing a couple 1st rounders and a 3rd, + they assume his contract.
Oh, what could have been.
Salute the nation
Oh, ok. Well, they are idiots. Just excuse making. It sure is, errrr was, but I'm talking about his ex players and some national guys saying he shouldn't be expected to win in the playoffs without having a QB, why? Other coaches have done it.
Cowher won in the playoffs with the infamous Neil O’Donnell. He got to the AFCCG with Kordell. It sure is, errrr was, but I'm talking about his ex players and some national guys saying he shouldn't be expected to win in the playoffs without having a QB, why? Other coaches have done it.
oh ok, so, just forget about advancing to, and actually winning anything in the postseason, got it. you totally make sense now.If this was a young team, perhaps I could see that argument. It isn't. Ok. Make the argument how if a lot of the team is different next year how winning one playoff game has any impact in future years? If it is a young, building team, yeah. This team is not that. This team has to win it all to make it worth anything.oh ok, so, just forget about advancing to, and actually winning anything in the postseason, got it. you totally make sense now.

what kind ridiculous question is that?? so because the team is older, and there's a chance that a good bit of these players might not be around next year, then it's foolish to desire to see the team achieve levels of success they haven't achieved in some time? the goal should ALWAYS be to be competitive, regardless of whatever garbage circumstances you want to insert. that means winning, and winning in the regular season SHOULD lead to winning (or at least being competitive for FIKE sake) in the postseason, and showing an ability to consistently be a premier organization eventually leads to a sound culture at all echelons, an expectation that a high standard will be met amongst bother leadership and players, a place where good players may actually want to come and play, it's a multiplier in many different ways. winning a playoff game doesn't mean nothing, going 9-8 every year and getting embarrassed when we DO make a postseason is what is TRULY worthless. you can't sit there as a front office or a coaching staff and say, "well fellas, looks like we MIGHT make the playoffs, MIGHT....but, if we do, we're probably not gonna do well, we'll probably get blown out yet again, so let's just go ahead tweak this over here, and maybe make a few little changes over here, and hopefully, within 5-10 years, we'll tweak just enough with the hopes that we'll go from being a groundhog day clown college, to the BEST TEAM IN DA NFL with the #1 seed locked up by Thanksgiving, and without question, the Superbowl winner favorite, right away! Who's with me??!" Derp.Ok. Make the argument how if a lot of the team is different next year how winning one playoff game has any impact in future years? If it is a young, building team, yeah. For the love. It is about championships in Pittsburgh, or so I thought. Would you be satisfied if they make the playoffs, win one and then are done? That would make you happy? You think that is progress that will have a lasting impact? If this was a young team being built up I agree with you. It's not. And I desire them to do well. In no way am I arguing that I hope they don't make a run in the playoffs. But with this team, if they get there and win one, or maybe two, if they then lose it will be considered a missed opportunity, not a culture building exercise. I'm surprised this is even an argument.what kind ridiculous question is that?? so because the team is older, and there's a chance that a good bit of these players might not be around next year, then it's foolish to desire to see the team achieve levels of success they haven't achieved in some time? the goal should ALWAYS be to be competitive, regardless of whatever garbage circumstances you want to insert. that means winning, and winning in the regular season SHOULD lead to winning (or at least being competitive for FIKE sake) in the postseason, and showing an ability to consistently be a premier organization eventually leads to a sound culture at all echelons, an expectation that a high standard will be met amongst bother leadership and players, a place where good players may actually want to come and play, it's a multiplier in many different ways. winning a playoff game doesn't mean nothing, going 9-8 every year and getting embarrassed when we DO make a postseason is what is TRULY worthless. you can't sit there as a front office or a coaching staff and say, "well fellas, looks like we MIGHT make the playoffs, MIGHT....but, if we do, we're probably not gonna do well, we'll probably get blown out yet again, so let's just go ahead tweak this over here, and maybe make a few little changes over here, and hopefully, within 5-10 years, we'll tweak just enough with the hopes that we'll go from being a groundhog day clown college, to the BEST TEAM IN DA NFL with the #1 seed locked up by Thanksgiving, and without question, the Superbowl winner favorite, right away! you've never been part of an organization that achieved and maintained success before? seriously, how old are you?
That's just it, yeah Cowher needed Ben to get over the Super Bowl hump, but he made a Super Bowl and 2 AFCCG's with Neil Odonnel, made 2 AFCCG's with Kordell, and was a Joe Nedney Oscar award winning performance away from getting there with Tommy Maddox. All I hear from Ryan Clark, Arthur Moats, and other National guys defending Tomlin saying well you can't expect him to win in the post season, look who his QB's are. GTFOH, if you're a HOF coach you can win a game here or there without a Franchise QB.
So you're willing to wait until 3:45 of the first quarter?
LMAO, all I can picture here is Buschemi in Mr. Deeds getting the brand new corvette and driving straight into the tree.Sooo true
Cowher would’ve even went to SB with Kordell had the refs not gone crazy and completely forgot how to officiate a game
Cowher built and rebuilt and rebuilt and remained relevant, Tomlin was gift wrapped a shiny new sports car and proceeded to run it into an oak tree

Sounds like a Big Ben quoteOh, what could have been.
Where did I say they were? How the hell is what I was saying a defense of Mike Tomlin or this staff? Again, to review, I believe the only way this particular incarnation of the Steelers can be considered a success is if they win a championship. I never understood the just win a playoff game argument. I don't believe with the makeup of this team anything will carry over to the next year, as a lot of the guys now may be gone next year. If they were a young building team, perhaps. The Mike Tomlin can't lead that is different discussion (I agree with your premise) that I am confused on how you linked to what I was saying.your entire premise misses the entire point, which is, Mike Tomlin and his cadre of worthlessness have proven beyond any shadow of a doubt that they. are. not. fit. to. be. the. coaches. who. will. rebuild. this team. into. a. premier. franchise.
Wake up, sleepy! They aren't the ones who are going to re-build this team, so what's the point of even arguing in their defense??
I think it's just a sign of how sick everyone is of Tomlin, he is the only constant that has been here for all these playoff embarrassments, multiple OC's, DC's, GM's, players.I'll say another thing. I remember the debates on Cowher well, especially after 2004. I do not recall this level rage against people who disagreed one way or the other. The second anything is said that is even misconstrued as a defense of Tomlin, look out. If you aren't blaming him for every damn evil in the world or agreeing with every accusation against him, regardless of how stupid, well, hell, you support him. It's bullshiit.
And I get that. So am I. But not every accusation is sound. His lack of success is absolute fair game and should be criticized. His schemes and development of players. Yeah. But some accusation that they keeping him around for the win total, for example? Not so much.I think it's just a sign of how sick everyone is of Tomlin, he is the only constant that has been here for all these playoff embarrassments, multiple OC's, DC's, GM's, players.
2004 we were coming off an AFCCG with a rookie QB, hell we won 3 playoff games from 01-04, Tomlin has what 3 wins since 2010.
Again, to review, I believe the only way this particular incarnation of the Steelers can be considered a success is if they win a championship.
You're being disingenuous; nobody is literally JUST saying "just win 1 playoff game, Pittsburgh Steelers, and we'll all be in heavenly bliss and fully-satiated, our football desires have been fulfilled once and for all!" A playoff win is a part of the overall change, a "turning away" from what this team has been allowed to become. A playoff win is not accomplished within some vacuum of compartmentalized expectations. Again, along WITH a playoff win, fans are going to expect to see progression within the coming seasons, as a logical next step for the team.I never understood the just win a playoff game argument.
