Evaluating Trubisky - too early edition

I think Mitch has been told to not lose the game. He is timid to throw down field. This could work providing TJ is healthy
I agree with the first point. The very few opportunities he has down field he passes on. Today he had Pickens one-on-one on a deep post and I only saw it live, but it looked like if he hit him in stride Pickens probably makes a play for a TD. I do believe Mitch has left plays on the table, but Canada hasn't given him much to work with.

No that's your interpretation and I never said that. Perhaps with interpretations like that you should be working at CNN!

How the hell can you sit here and think you should continue to start Mitch Trubisky who has shown nothing in 2 complete games? You draft a kid #20th overall and he goes out in the pre-season (29 for 36 251 yds 3 TD's including 2 inside 2 minutes to play) and proves the stage is not too big for him and that he just might be the next Franchise QB for our Steelers. But instead of starting him for whatever reasons or fears you have (You could ruin him or bruise his fragile ego (= Millenial Mentality) you continue to start a guy who has under-performed and hasn't been able to lead the offense at all. This is the friggin NFL....I'm sorry I don't coddle players....I don't draft *******! I want mentally, physically tough players who can play football. Give the kid a chance....he's going to have to learn sooner or later. I'd rather it be sooner rather than later. If he goes out and tosses 5 INT's so be it....I'd rather see that than watch Mitch Trubisky who I know isn't the future.
how the hell can you sit there and act like the preseason is the same as a regular season

get off your high horse, after your **** in the game thread you are lucky as hell to still be here

Once again where did I say Preseason is like regular season? I said he proved the game wasn't too big for him in the preseason. If that is the same thing as saying it's the same as the regular season then that's your interpretation of it. I'm pretty sure I never said it was the same.

you said he went out there in the preseason and proved the game wasn't too big for him

the way you worded it certainly makes it seem like you think he proved he has what it takes to succeed in the regular season

I agree he showed command and poise. If you have him as the #2 you must believe he can get the job done if his number is called.

Exactly what I said. I never said preseason is same as regular season. You have an interesting way of interpreting things! He has certainly done enough to earn the opportunity to see what he can do. I'm pretty sure everyone on this board would agree with that. Watching Trubisky struggle is driving me crazy! I can't stand it. Couple that with The Canada Effect and it's a recipe for a disasterous season. If Pickett bombs I'll be the first to eat crow but I want this kid to get the experience now...not 3 years from now when Watt is on the downside of his career and Cam Heyward is in his final season and we've lost others to Free Agency. Let Pickett play this year and perhaps he flashes, who knows and next season could be a really special season provided he can handle the limelight. I really feel like he is more NFL ready now than Ben was in 2004 and they have similar teams around them.....I actually think this team offensively has more weapons than Ben had. And for what it's worth the O-line didn't look horrible today.....but no one's talking about that.

I'll say it. THE O-LINE LOOKED HORRIBLE TODAY.

Pass protection was alright but run blocking is horrible
I disagree. Pass protection was not "alright". Trubisky was rushed on every pass, and the plays weren't slow developing... they were pretty much all first reads and short routes. The opposing QB, however, had all day to throw on every dropback. That's what I want to see.

I wrote in an earlier post that he could "be ruined" I am not a millenial(over by three decades) What you can't seem to grasp is if you shake Pickett's confidence and he doesn't recover then where do you go for a QB? He needs to see first of all that if you are the starting QB of The Steelers, and you don't produce immediately you are not going to get yanked immediately. You let Mitch play at least till the middle of October THEN you make the switch, even if you are thinking about it now. I'll bet that's what the Steelers might be thinking. The exact timeline may be off, but I'll bet if they are thinking about it, it won't happen this month.

If Pickett is rattled and his confidence is destroyed then he is not the guy for the job. These young NFL rookies have all faced adversity their whole lives. This notion that you are going to destroy a rookie and ruin him is udderly ridiculous. Name me an NFL player who was so rattled as a rookie it ruined his future NFL career?

Jay Cutler

When I watched the video with DK I was reminded of what I saw last week at the Bengals post game PC that bugged me. Watch the last 10 seconds of this video. Trubisky doesnt even say " Thanks guys" or anything when he's done. You can see that he just wants to get away as fast as he can before he's asked a really tough question. He looks at the press one time with a deer in the headlights look then beats his feet...not a good sign. I think DK is right, Houston we have a problem.......

Thing is Pickett doesn't seem the type that will get rattled to the point of no return. Just the vibe I get from him.

Also is it too late to give Canada some help? I know they won't fire the man but **** maybe slide Flores over something...

Hey you may be right, also Pickett is older than most rookie QBs, so I'm not saying it's a given that he'll be ruined. He may just battle through and it not affect him at all. And besides if it goes bad there are more upcoming NFL drafts.

You are probably right.

For the poor mechanics, accuracy and field vision MT is displaying we may as well
let the rookie with a potential for learning/growth in there as these are the things you’d expect from a rookie anyway

And yes anyone over Canada calling the plays: Tomlin (so he’d be fully accountable-would never happen), Flores, the WR coach, a **** flinging monkey…literally anyone else cuz the amount of disconnect of the offensive side of the ball is staggering.

Dionte sounds like he's throwing Mitch under the bus...without throwing him under the bus. LOL..

Am I the only one that expected exactly what we are seeing? I can't be the only one.
I had a feeling it would be rough waters, so did others. Now the question is will the team sink or swim?

Mitch is a good game managing Q. That requires a run game. They cannot run block so they don't have a run game. If there isn't a major turnaround by Thursday I'm fine with giving KP a start against the Jets.
