The Steelers poor performances during 2021 have set off many of their former players. Most notably former safety Ryan Clark, and running back Rocky Bleier. But this time…this time was the man himself. The man that transformed the franchise.
Joe Greene.
“Mean Joe” didn’t like what he saw.
“In all the years I’ve been watching my team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Black and Gold, Thursday night, that first half was probably the saddest days I’ve had in all my years of playing, and all of my years since my retirement of watching the Steelers play. That was a poor poor example of the black and gold, “Green continued. “And it disappointed me and I’m sure it disappointed a lot of guys that that love the Pittsburgh Steelers. The fans that love the Pittsburgh Steelers.”
The Steelers fell behind the Minnesota Vikings 29-0 and looked helpless. They allowed Dalvin Cook to rush for over a 100 yards in the first half. They left receivers wide open. They could barely muster a first down on offense. It was as ugly as it could get for the Steelers.
Then the topic of Chase Claypool came up during the interview. He didn’t hold back on the second year receiver.
Do you play this game to show your butt, or to win the game,” Greene said when asked about Claypool’s antics on the final drive of the game Thursday night.
Wow. Just wow.
Outside noise is always there for NFL teams, especially the Steelers who have a fan base that expects Super Bowls. There’s lots of Steelers alumni in the media. The opinions are always there from high profile former players. But this is the patriarch of the team. Only the Rooney family’s voice could carry more value.
This team, it’s coaches, it’s leaders, it’s ownership.. they should listen to what Greene has to say. And take it to heart.

Mean Joe Greene said the first half against the #Vikings was the saddest he’s ever been watching the #Steelers and has a message for @ChaseClaypool.
