First-pick.com - 2021 - and so it begins.

I think somehow the steelers value that center position highly. As history has shown. I think we need the LT. I think pierre is slated to be the slot corner, and they will use layne as back up. If they dont score and run the football this year, its all for nothing. Then bringing ben back was stupid and pointless. Feb 2022, ben is gone, so is colbert, and without the championship, hopefully so is Tomlin. All In.

You mean which position? As I don't think it will allow you to pick the same guy twice. 😁

yeah, i mean position. Do a bunch of mocks and you may get to RD 5 and start thinking, did i take a LB already in this one?

Anyway, i figured out that you can see who you picked by clicking on the team logo next to the draft pick in the left pane. It brings up that team's draft picks to that point.

A trade out of 2 an interesting idea. Probably wouldn't gain the picks you did but interesting none the less.

  • This turned out to be one of my favorite mocks. The close we get to the draft, the more it feels like the Steelers feel like they're in a "win now" mode for one more year and if that's the case, a RB is a player who will help that cause this year. There are three guys that separate themselves from the rest and I was able to land one of them. I ran to the podium for Jenkins in the second and Campbell was terrific value in the third. The rest of the draft was about getting high upside players for depth.

Love the PFN draft simulator. Trades offers are legit. I recommended two trades in response to overtures from Atlanta and Tampa Bay to get the 3rd and 4th round picks in the 2022 draft. Despite giving up some position to load up on the 2022 draft, the outcome is still exactly what I would look for - legit 3-down RB, very good CB to start at slot corner right now, a C for the next ten years, an interesting OT who did very well his senior year, a bigger CB who can play dime and outside the numbers, another stellar OT prospect, a TE who will play a lot this year, an edge rusher to develop, an ILB who is not a big guy but a very good run defender.

Oh, and a developmental QB with a plus arm, big, mobile, fast, who needs a year to sit behind a guy and improve, and two picks to set up the 2022 draft.

Okay, hear me out. The "last run in twenty-one" crowd is hoping to draw to an inside straight-flush in 2021. Sorry, just the facts. So this draft gets top-end developmental talent in the form of an ILBer who can run a 4.58, an outstanding LT prospect who has not played in a while cuz Chinese flu but has great footwork, the next great Steelers QB, an OG who could start this season, a legit 3-down back who just ran a 4.36 at his pro day, a developmental WR who is a big guy who has not played recently, a very good slot CB who tracks receivers really well without grabbing. Love it.

Oh, and a 2022 draft that will feature TWO 1st round picks, TWO 2nd round picks, a 3rd, TWO 3rd round picks when considering the comp pick for Dupree, TWO 4th round picks, and a ton of cap space.

The 2022 Steelers will be loaded with affordable young talent for the next 6 seasons. Book it.

Like it for Trask but if you are going all in on next season then it defeats the purpose of bringing Ben back. I prefer the picks be there for this season especially down 4 starters and being weak at ILBer and OLBer depth wise. Would have loved the approach if Ben had retired.

Bringing Ben back made no sense just given the vast holes the team was going to have, and the cap situation. So why compound the error by pretending 2021 is a potential championship season? This draft and next under my scenario will make the team a dominating freaking force for the next 6 seasons, and with cap room galore due to the vast array of talent on a draft budget.

I agree with your thinking just not sure the FO will. The other problem with initiating this plan is we still have that HC. Trading picks gives him a built-in excuse if things go south.

what happens when the top CB of the draft falls to 24? I should do a poll about this question but it was an easy answer for me when Both Harris and Etienne were already taken when it was my time to pick, so I clock the fastest podium time in Steelers history (yeap, I sent a player to run for me) and get Farley, position solved for the next 5 seasons at least.

Next crossroad, Trask is still available at 4.24, what are you gonna do? gotta draft the prospect and stash him as the 3rd QB, probably missing out on some OLB talent available and competition for Highsmith, hopefully after cuts I hope some vet depth balances the position. Got the prospect LT in the 2nd, a talented RB in the 3rd that could play all downs except 3rd and short and late in the 4th the future OC of the team for a decade. Finally draft some depth at ILB, S and one of the few blocking TEs of this draft.

Thoughts?

I am really interested to see where Trask goes. The issues with mobility are not much of a concern to an offense like New Orleans, which has elite skill players and a very good OL so that the QB running around is meaningless. I also think Trask fits with the Bears, Lions, Broncos and Panthers. And the Steelers. For heaven's sake, why are we harping on getting a QB with mobility? If mobility is such a big factor, why the hell would the team want Ben for another year??
