That's not true, a bunch of the great coaches came from great coaches before them and they learn things along the way. There's a reason it's a "tree".

I do believe that Tomlin's "branch" on the tree has born no fruit. Or any leaves. In fact, it's just a scraggly dead twig.

Mike Tomlin must have been this authors inspiration.

I'm trying to figure out what Austin has done in these scenarios to get fired? Led the league in INTs. 22 personnel alignments this season, incredible week 1 game plan, and great game plan vs Tom Brady when our entire secondary was injured. Lost his top defender and still had us competitive in games, then improved tremendously past the bye.

I understand wanting Flores over Austin, but outside of Madden Football, firing a guy that is doing a good job as a DC, isn't a good idea. I think Co-DCs could have been an option, but we've never done that as a franchise.

Maybe, but the question is, did the D excel last season because of Austin or the influence of Flores? Guess we'll have to wait until the fall to find out.

They improved from 20th to 10th in points allowed in one season. Without TJ. Yep. Let’s fire the DC!

I think they should have thrown money at him to retain him for one more year. Just for the compensation we would have got next year.

I still say the Flores effect is hard to judge because of our weak schedule. Just as the improvement of points allowed.
I also hope that if Flores had a positive effect on the Defense,Tomlin,Austin and company learned from it and will move forward because of it.

I was hoping that the Steelers brought on Flores to groom him as Tomlin's replacement. Instead, he's already gone, and another MT extension is probable.
