Fourth Round Pick - Calvin Austin

I think the offense wants quick releases and shifty playmakers. With our horrible Oline it makes sense I guess to utilize quick passes then open it up for Chase or George to go deep.

5 wide?

Or maybe, just MAYBE - stay with me here - improve the offensive line?

Naaaaaahh. Never mind.

So we now have a 5'7" guy who plays bigger than his size in Austin and a 6'4" guy who plays smaller than his size in Claypool.

Seriously, the Steelers have a diverse group of receiving options right now with a potential No. 1 wide out with Pickens. I'm still not sold the offensive line is good enough, but this team has a young group of skill position players for Trubisky and Pickett.

They must have really liked him considering we don’t have a 5th and already to a WR earlier.

He'll be the guy Canaduh throws to 5 yards behind the line on 3rd or 4th and 10 when he's "out of bullets".
Canada really has no excuses this year. There is inexperience on the roster, but the talent is diverse enough this offense should be significantly better than last year. That team couldn't even luck into an opening drive touchdown.

Calvin Austin III's combine performance:

4.32 40 - 5th best
39" vertical - tied 14th best
135" broad jump - 2nd best
6.65 3-cone - 3rd best
4.07 20-yard shuttle - 3rd best

Dude has physical skills. Explosive, lightning-fast cuts, and reportedly has superb hands. Catches everything he gets to, catches deep ball over his shoulder with his hands and does not break stride.

Interesting pick. I think the Tyreek Hill comp is valid. Similar 40 time, shuttle, 3-cone, size, arm length.

I read the Steelers WR coach said they didn't plan to take another receiver but he was at the top of their board. Teams need to be four deep the position, so I'm glad they added another weapon.

Johnson-great route runner.
Claypool-size with inside/outside versatility.
Pickens-size and speed, excellent hands, potential future No. 1.
Austin-excellent speed, shiftiness.
Harris-capable hands out of backfield.
Freiermuth-top size, catch radius, deadly in end zone.

Not sure how much muscle Hill has put on since in the NFL but I am guessing Austin will need to put on 5 to 10 lbs of muscle without losing speed to maintain his body from the hits in the NFL. Actually, just looked him up and Hill is a good bit bigger at 5'10" and 185 lbs. Austin is 5'8" and 170. We haven't had luck with these kinds of little speed guys in the past. Hopefully, Austin can stick and do well. He will be fun to watch if he does.

Hollywood Brown came into the NFL at just over 5'9" and 166 pounds. He did just fine at that size.
