Franchise Quarterback for years to come!

I think I know the play that you are talking about. I think. I thought it was in the 3rd quarter and it was on 3rd down. For some reason KP flanked out Warren to go trips and an empty backfield. Hamilton showed blitz and came without any protection adjustments and I thought, but could be wrong, that Hamilton hit KP on the release sending the pass off target. I think DJ did get his hands on it so I can see where you would say he should make that catch. For 18 million he should.

It hit Johnson in the chest.

Jesus Christ, an NFL receiver should be able to catch a ball that literally bounces off his chest.

I've seen everything I need to see out of KP to know he can play in the NFL.

The only thing I want to see now, is can he throw more than one TD a game?

I want to see him become prolific and an issue to scheme against. Until he puts together a 3/4 TD game in the air, I'm not sure who he is as a franchise QB?
Not unless we get a new OC. We average 17.5 ppg which isn't good enough.
We'll see if Deuce has the stones to do like his dad did with Noll and tell Shades that we WILL hire some new assistants.
OL is improved but still need to draft some better people. I note that last year's starting center has not even dressed for a game this year.

We are scared to death to call shots into the end zone that aren’t safe fades into the corner… it cripples us in the red zone

Great Points Punx!

If we want to improve our pass blocking with our line, we need to run more play action. We ran 1 yesterday. We were pounding the Ravens on the ground and PA wasn't even an option. That bugs me a bit and needs to be utilized when our running game is dominating.
I'm rewatching it right now. 1st drive, after the muth false start, a 5 yd pass short of the endzone to Harris, well defended by roquan Smith but hit the receiver in his arm, should have been a catch and a yard away of the endzone in 3rd down. Then the jump ball to Pickens, well placed, tough catch but went through his hands. I'll go do some home stuff and update this post later on

So I am trying for the life of me to figure out how you believe that pass would reflect negatively on Pickett.

Hamilton was unblocked. Pickett knew he was going to get drilled and did. Delivered the ball to Johnson's chest, and it bounced off. Your picture shows where the ball wound up after glancing off his hands.

WTF does "wearing his hat backwards" have to do with his performance???
I mean...

ben-roethlisberger-.webp

Also I think we need a better slot WR. Simms shows you the value of an upgrade with that catch. Still think the team is minus a WR.

Ultimately I am ok with BPA of need. And the team has a lot of needs so....

The tradition of taking a WR in the second round could very well continue, but if they are going to do that, they may as well have kept Claypool.

But you could argue keeping Warren in to pick up Hamilton would have allowed enough time for KP to throw it on target. Which is my whole point. Setting up the protection and making sure everyone is lined up correctly is the QB’s responsibility. And it’s a bigger adjustment than most really understand from college to the pros. Ben benefited from having Hartings then Pouncey to help point out blitzes which unfortunately KP doesn’t have. But it’s an area he will need to develop because those are drive sustaining factors.

Also, the ball didn’t hit DJ’s chest as I showed in that screenshot.

Here’s the video clip.

29/32 I was actually surprised there are 3 teams out there that are worse.
29. Men Of Steel 17.5
30. Indy Colts 16.1
31. Texans 16.1
32. Broncos 16.0

FWIW the Chiefs are #1 with 29.1 so they're averaging about 2 more TD's per game than we are.
