Frank Reich Out at Indy

I dont really understand the point of firing the coach mid season for performance reasons. That includes Tomlin. Lets pretend it was the Steelers firing Tomlin today. They get say two more wins in thevseason with interim. What does that get you? If he is getting fired the team sucks and is pretty much out. Wait till Monday after week 17 dump him and have maximum look at the pool. Coordinator is another story.

I agree here as it is pretty hard to overcome a midseason HC firing. It's not unheard of that the team responds and play above the line the next few weeks then back to near normal.

It's hard to overcome OC & DC midseason firings as well but that transition is dependent on the HC and his Xs & Os ability. It also helps if the team make up is not struggling team wide but specific to the coordinator that's fired. O'Canada would be a firing that would make addition by subtraction look good.

Bill Cowher had the team and the knowledge so his midseason relieving Sherman of duty was an addition by subtraction that went well.

EDIT: The current team is a hot mess team wide so I don't think we would see the results expected by many. I'd like to think my one armed **** flinging onkey would do better but that is a wait and see.................... Definately fire him in the off-seson.

Interesting Frank Reich factoid: while many are familiar with his playoff comeback down 35-3 at halftime against the Oilers, in college Reich came off the bench to lead Maryland, which was down 31-0 at halftime against Bernie Kosar’s Miami Hurricanes, to a 42-40 victory.
Watched that game in a bar...fantastic comeback. Frank ******* Reich.

Indy has had bad qbs. Wentz has just been awful cant believe teams still give him a shot. Ryan was washed up, now they have Ehlinger who is making his first starts. Their WR core is a bunch of WHO?? Taylor is a great back, but thats about all they got. Not like the steelers who have offensive talent

Irsay is mentally unstable. Hiring Jeff Saturday off ESPN is crazy. Is it a Rooney rule violation? Promoting an interim internally would seem to be an exception but hiring an outside candidate seems like Rooney rule should apply.

Does anybody on the current roster know and respect Jeff Saturday?
Out of curiosity what is your bases for saying Saturday’s hiring is crazy as an intern? He played 13 seasons in Indi,Super Bowl, pro bowls, pretty well legendary there and one day a candidate for HOF. And you ask if anyone respects Jeff Saturday? Seriously?

I left that game in Buffalo early because I agreed with the friends that I was with that the long drive home should start sooner. Bad mistake. I have never left any sporting event early since.

If I recall correctly, Peyton Manning had a fixation on putting his hands near Saturday's ***, a lot.

No doubt...what an all-time shocker that game was.

Fans and media respect Saturday but did he play with anybody on the current roster? All the players on the team know is they fired their coach who has super bowl experience as an OC and replaced him with a guy from TV with zero college or pro coaching experience. It would be one thing if he was on staff but he's not even a coach.

How does the staff feel about this? I'm sure they have guys who have coached their whole adult lives and would love an opportunity as a HC, but no, the owner is going to hire his buddy.

How would the current steelers feel if they fired Tomlin and hired Alan Faneca as HC mid season?

Hey....I don’t disagree with those points. Obviously the one point I didn’t take to was your “know and respect Jeff Saturday “ comment. Like you would know their locker room.

And by the way.......many,many people on here have said ,and would hire Big Ben in a second to replace our OC.

Maybe the Steelers could bring in Dirt to be HC?

It would stink of tanking and I would be pissed. Keep in mind I love the draft, just never want to purposely lose.

If frank lost the players and I would assume the players respect the hell out of Saturday, that's why you fire your HC mid-season. Change it up, light a spark, and see how your team performs.

Tomlin hasn't lost the players; he's built a **** roster and developed a **** locker room culture. That doesn't warrant a mid-seasoning firing.

Ex players, especially star players, rarely have great coaching careers and the dude hasn’t really done much coaching at all… 3 years as a high school HC… thats it.. while he may turn out ok, this reeks of an owner giving the job to an ex player he liked

I don't believe in tanking in the sense of trying to lose. But I believe you are what you are. A couple extra wins just gets you a lower draft pick for every round. Nothing Jeff Saturday is going to do with his three years of Prep school coaching is gonna make this team contend. Most likely they end up doing a coach search in 9 weeks anyhow.

**** Indianapolis, the way I see it they are our third win since the bye !!!

tanking? Tanking has never ever happened in the NFL. That's why Goodell punished the dolphins owner for even thinking about it, because it has never and will never ever happen in the NFL.

Jeff Saturday went 17-18 his 3 years at Hebron Christian Academy, including 3-7 his last year there. THAT qualifies you as an NFL head coach?
A lot of high school teams are about talent. I could be wrong, but Hebron Christian Academy doesnt scream D1 talent to me. No amount of coaching is going to fix the talent gaps between some high schools. Of course it is still a massive long shot Saturday will work out, but he has a lot of experience on a winning team and should know what it takes at least. The offensive talent level in Indy is very poor so in that respect Saturday is just a sacrificial lamb. A few years ago the highschool I went to went undefeated and made it to the game at the Steelers stadium and we just got destroyed. It was just a massive gap in size between our guys and theirs. They played good and hard for a while, but they eventually broke down.

A tank coach, for sure.

But this isn't just any High School. This is a prep league High School with rules outside of State jusridiction. They can, and do, recruit players to build a roster much like a college program. Just two years removed from Coach Saturday, they are 8-2 this season. In 3 seasons Coach Saturday couldn't get it done at the Prep High School level and now he's an NFL head coach.

All I can say is I saw his interview on taking over, he OWNED it. His passion is off the charts and I know time will tell. He had one hell of an NFL career and I'm sure he was exposed to all ranks of coaching.

I'm not saying he is instant savior but heart & Passion an over take a lot while learning on the job.

We need an infusion of passion instead of a "just gettiN bye" persona.
