Freiermuth – “See yinz Monday night”

Yes I do have head injury management in football. And I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that clearing protocol does not equal being healed. It simply does not. His brain is still in a more vulnerable state than if he had not taken the first or the second. There is no scan, xray or test that can be administered on his brain to measure healing. Just risk reward. So explain to me the reward here.
The players know that risk. Just like you know every case will be different. In the medical industry my auditor-educator let me know it was a case by case basis.Rarely ever are the circumstances identical. Head injuries are no different sometimes they are healed as that person is a quick healer. Or the degree of the injury differs. If the players wants stricter guidelines, lobby for them. Otherwise follow protocol or don't. They always have an option. Other jobs out there...

I think a lot of you are conflating head injuries with orthopedic ones. I also think you are mistakenly thinking I am speaking of the human element and not the business. In an orthopedic injury the can look at the MRI and the xray and say these are the repercussions of playing. This will be what happens if you get this injury. That is impossible with a head injury. They can say you pass the protocol and you are eligible to participate. But the only concrete long term knowledge is the only treatment is time on this. So while the doctor can say eligible he will never say a good idea. No doctor would. So from a business perspective I take no chance of adding TE to my offseason shopping list to help make sure Ben leaves a Winner.

But here is the thing Slash. The person you talked to cannot look at the scan and say he is healed. Passing protocol is not healed. Healed is only proven in the long term with no more injury.
And the part where they know the risks. That is the human element. I'm not speaking of that. From a human element I wouldn't let him play in the SB but that is not from a football element.
I read what you write. I know you know the Steelers are done. They have been done for weeks. And I know you know that. This is just bad business.

And as far as me hating Tomlin. I would go for beers with Tomlin tomorrow. Self honesty I would probably lack the balls to tell him what I think of his coaching for fear of looking like an *******. But much like the President of the U.S. past or present I can critique any decision he makes. And frankly with more accuracy on this then most because we don't aways understand the factors that go into game day decisions.

Are we out of the playoffs if we lose Monday? Probably, I haven't looked it up. My opinion is to play him Monday sparingly if he clears everything and feels like playing. If we lose Monday, sit him out for the Rats. And Sask, I get what you're saying about the brain scans. Just like CTE can only be diagnosed at autopsy. No need to risk major brain trauma on a losing cause.

They could be out of the playoffs before Monday I believe. If Cincinnati beats KC the Steelers cannot win the division. Not sure about Wildcards but I know the straightest way is the division.

I think they are done. But mathematicaly they aren't eliminated. Lose Monday then you can shut down whoever. Pretty sure NFL players can still relay they are having symptoms which can hold them out an additional game. **** lose tomorrow and I would even rotate the roster and play Haskins and Rudy. Plenty of times players play less than 100 percent though, you know no team is just going to shut down the player with a chance to make the postseason. I get your concerns. But we know anything with a dollar bill attached to it is going to have less than desirable approaches.

Playoffs. Playoffs are you ******* kidding me. Let's say hypothetically they got in. Who the **** is this team beating. I assume you have watched this team. They cannot run. They cannot stop the run and they haven't scored a TD in the first half of the last 5 weeks. Wake the **** up.
Whew, I bet you are a hoot to watch a game with. By the middle of the first quarter I'd be ready to off myself.

I am well aware of all their problems, but dammit, they have a chance, small though it may be. I'm not going to cower in a corner or something over it, and I sure as hell hope the Steelers don't.

The difference between a fan with a fantasy and someone entrusted with something is they have to see past fanboy chances and play smart odds. Let me tell you champ I heard all that bullshit you just said last year when I said burn this thing down. Slash can verify that. And I was 100% right. Now they are exactly one year further from where this team should be.

Here is a point I know I have been consistent about, Champ. You or me don't have to do anything. We have no control over anything. Perhaps you have been right about "tear it down." Well, what the hell good did it do you? Do you have some straight line to the Steelers in which they listen to or give a **** about your opinion?

Being that you probably do not, and neither do I, we are left with choices. Either be miserable over everything all the time, which it seems you are, stop watching or following them, or try to find a few positives and just see what happens. Again, we have really no other choices as we have no control. I choose to try to find some positives and try to enjoy the Steelers. For me my only other option is to just stop watching or following them. I will not allow football...entertainment supposedly, to make me so miserable.

You are right in that the people in charge certainly have the responsibility as opposed to the fans. But that is their damn job, not mine. Whether you like it or not, they are privy to a lot more information that any of us are, i.e. if Muth can or should play. I will tell you this for me, anyway. The surest way to get me and I would think a lot of fans to stop watching is to sit players deemed healthy enough to play when there is still a chance, however small.

I'm a positive person in most to all life things. But I'm first to admit. This ****** Tomlin has wrecked my Sunday's, Monday's and any other day they play. Why? Cause you can see his bullshit coming from ten miles away. And most of us here can see it. Oh there are moments of joy like beating the Ravens or the Titans or Browns. But even within that there were Clear Moments of what the **** are you doing? Whether it was the ridiculous Boswell fake. The use of timeouts, the use of the clock. When you watch a head coach with 17? years of experience and is somehow considered great year in and year out look befuddled. Then his ridiculous regurgitating of platitudes instead of just plainly speaking like a regular person. I think I speak for more than half of us. No I won't enjoy the Steelers the way I used to until this ****** is gone. Because in my heart I am certain it wouldn't matter who was wearing the jerseys. He could have 10 All pros. He couldn't win a championship. Not a ****** chance. But the team is so ingrained in me that I won't give up. I just don't expect wins anymore.

I think most of us are frustrated at this point. I know I am, and I've been buying Steeler clothing since 1974. And the fingers that do the pointing would go all over the place as far as ownership, management, coaches, and SOME players. It's an utter train wreck scattered everywhere.

As Ryan Clark said, this isn't the Steelers I know....And it really hit home with me to hear what Rocky said. Next year without Ben has no high-hope expectations for me although I hope we address both O and D lines and make 2023 better.

I'm hoping to not have misses in the draft build solid on both sides of the line so the next caretaker of this team has something to work with.

Me too....I'll sit through a bad season to do it correctly.

Here's an analogy - my boat engine coughed up it's oil pump. I could buy a new high performance oil pump and it would run decently for a while, actually a long while, but I know the pistons are damaged and it doesn't have the power it once used to. IMO, it's time for me to rebuild the engine - from the bottom up to have a strong one. And I will do just that.

Looking at the lines, I hope they sign a decent player or two in free agency for either line, and then whatever they may not address in FA, they make a draft priority. They can no longer just hope draft picks pan out. With Ben coming off the books, they have to thicken out those lines. Maybe a tackle and a guard, not a guy on his last legs, but also someone who will take your head off. I am tired of their "athletic" OL guys. Maybe they are athletic, but they don't block anyone. Then maybe draft a real nose in the first round.

I'm not patronizing you, and I don't know how old you are. But I remember those days. I'm in my mid-50s, so thankfully I have advanced beyond some of that rage. The events of life tend to make you realize it ain't all that damn important and it should be fun. But, ****, I remember in my mid 20s, a little one, struggling to make ends meet, pain in the *** job, one of the only outlets you had was the Steelers and damn, if they'd lose it was personal. You'd just seethe. I don't miss that.

Pats melon is his and his alone. Whatever he decides for himself is OK with me.

He's a grown man.

Early 50. I honestly try not to get pissed off. Truthfully, I will not have a problem with the team suffering. I'm fine with a 5 year rebuild. It just has to build to something. I'm just beyond fed up with this. It's ****** stupid. It's polishing a Turd. That is what it is.

So now relying upon the Jacksonville Jaguars as the only opportunity to make the playoffs do you play him tomorrow night.

I don't think our ability to get in the playoffs has anything to do with this decision. In the NFL you try to win no matter what. Why would a team like the Lions be fighting to win every week with no playoff hopes, shouldn't they just forget it and go for the number one pick? They don't though because they are paid professionals.

I get the whole why risk it with Pat since we aren't going anywhere, but that isn't how the NFL works. You get cleared by medical professionals, there is a pretty high chance you are playing. They make too much money not to play if they are able to play. Part of it is the entertainment factor too. The fans are paying, they would much rather see an up and coming star TE than someone coming off the practice squad.
