I tried to find the stat, but his get off time is slowing down this year.No one disagrees. The question is how much of that is scheme, and how much is age?

Funny, I said this before the season, when the minkah trade happened. I felt there was no plan to replace him...I was told Thornhill could easily do what minkah was asked to do...minkah's play for sure declined, but Thornhill couldn't make it in Cleveland...this was destined to fail from the startJuan Thornhill - How the **** is he starting on this Defense? 0 tackles tonight.....couldn't even track a jump ball...not once but twice! This guy is ******* TERRIBLE!
That base salary is guaranteed, as is his $32 million base for 2027. So, if he's playing for a lot less somewhere else next year, the Steelers will be eating the difference.TJ Watt is on pace to have 9-10 sacks this season after having 11.5 last season. He is scheduled to make $32 million base salary in 2026. I’m thinking he is playing somewhere else for a lot less next year.
Dead cap will be $30 million. The difficulty in moving him may be the $32m per year guaranteed for 2026 and 2027.Although I agree this is probably what needs to happen, the dead money cap hit just one year removed from the resigning has got to be prohibitive doesn’t it?
Adjustments to scheme mid-season? Surely you jest good sir! That is not the Mike Tomlin way.just speaking from my own life experience. As we age, we find ways to compensate because we don’t do things as well as we used to.
Even small little things make a difference in our being able to achieve what we do on a daily basis, even with mundane simple tasks.
In my humble opinion, I see TJ going through this same situation and he is trying to compensate to find his edge again.
One reason I say this is, you can see he is trying to get even a few inches of a start at the line of scrimmage.
That’s just an obvious example that I’m sure everyone has noticed in his game this year.
Another way I believe he could get to the quarterback quicker is to stop up being so wide at the line of scrimmage at times. Get more inside unless he is trying to defend the swing pass.
Maybe I just never noticed, but I can’t recall if they ever stunt with TJ as part of the stunt package? I believe by doing more of that type of scheming with TJ will give him that slight edge to be successful again.
I trust TJ will figure this out and we’ll see some different results as we move on into the season. Lord knows we absolutely need that and I hope he starts being the disruptor that he’s always been.
