If I am reading his wiki correctly, he was the 20th pick in 1951. was our starting QB in 51 and then waived in 52. strange

In the 50’s, roster sizes were like 33 or 34 players and there was no such thing as IR or practice squads…any injury that was severe basically ended your career…

the average league salary adjusted for inflation was about 50 to 60 grand in 2023 dollars, but most players, especially rookies, made far less… so players often quit for better pay in other fields… it wasn’t like today… sometimes 1st round picks didn’t even sign with the team, taking a better job elsewhere or playing in a rival league

I can’t remember who I met in the 50s,……….. OH wait, I may not have been born yet………..

You count “spirit” world trips of various distances and severity of the trip…………. !!!

Once Gerold Ford pulled up to and passed me, he was riding PeeWee Herman’s stolen bike. Ford said he found it in the basement of the Alamo. Of course that was either in the 50s / 40s / 30s as I couldn’t tell exact time due to my digital wrist watch was blurred and I was doing 88mph.

Okay, so here is how this went down

Woman notices Steeler tramp stamp on dad bod in the elevator

awkward!!

To break the silence she brings up an obscure fact that her Dad once played for the Steelers

Mad: "Who was your Dad?"

Her: "Chuck Ortmann"

Mad nods his head: "Oh yeahhhh, I heard of him! Nice!"

more awkward silence

elevator opens

Mad: "it was nice meeting you"

Her: "Nice meeting you too"

Mad walks to pool chair, whips out his cell and googles "Who is Chuck Ortmann"

Mad: "Damn! I gotta tell the guys!"

I wonder if Stryker could use the allure of an interview with Coolie, to get that long waited "Loudermilk" interview...........

Stryker " Today I have BLITZ / Coolie / and Loudermilk here for an open interview"

Stryker " gentlemen, what's new?"

BLITZ, rudely cuts in first " I met Coolie today"

Stryker... Mic drop... ends interview..............................................

If you do, he drinks Bud Light.

For awhile there when we’d go cruising in the LUXURY S10, he was pilfering the beer out of the “in-dash” mini frig.. I switched it out to all Old Milwaukee Best Light,…….. didn’t slow him down one bit…….

I thought nothing of it until I realized he took the cans to trade in for the aluminum……………

I was actually sitting about ten feet from Gerald and Betty Ford in the Teterboro airport. I would have stood up and shook his hand, but I didn't feel like getting tackled by the eight guys with wires going from their ears into their shirt collars.
