Heyward and Gentry don't play the same position. Gentry is an inline blocking TE. Heyward is an H-back. The threat to Gentry's spot is Washington and possibly Broderick Jones. Drafting Jones means that the odd man out at OT can be used as that #3 blocking TE. If Washington shows early in camp that he's at least the equal of Gentry as a blocker, do the Steelers want to carry that extra blocking TE?
Heyward is more in competition with Derek Watt. Watt is the better lead blocker and special teamer + brother TJ----- but Heyward has more upside in the receiving game.
Don't forget that fact.
Derrick has had injury, but also has a HUGE cqap hit, so that will need adjustment.
