Shazier was not drafted for size. It's like knocking Antonio because he doesn't block like Hines. Shazier was drafted to be a 3 down player who can match up with TEs and cover WRs in a zone and also to blitz. He missed a lot of time so i'm not worried about him yet.
Shazier was kind of a slow learner at OSU. He was good early in his career but really took a big step forward in his last season.
Jarvis is a different story. He was given tons of pass rush chances last year and produced almost nothing. He is producing nothing this year. I have a feeling the steelers were more than happy to give Jarvis plenty of time with his injury because it stopped them having to find a spot for him.
I think Jarvis is the 6th best outside pass rusher. Harrison, Worilds, Moats, Timmons, and even Polamalu will get better pressure at OLB. I would have even put Keisel and Josh Mauro ahead of him.
I keep hearing about how Jarvis gets a good "push". Bullshit. James Harrison gets a push. Harrison doesn't get a sack every play but on a lot of his plays, he moves the pocket and causes the QB to move. Jarvis rarely does even that. What Jarvis does can easily be done by a cheap late round guy.
Jarvis has been injured a lot, so maybe once again we hope he has some magic offseason where he gets stronger or faster or learns some moves.
I hope they don't repeat the mistake they made with Ziggy. I don't mean the mistake of drafting him. I mean the mistake of playing Ziggy ahead of Heyward for so long in hopes that the light would suddenly come on for Ziggy. I can understand that for a first or second year player, but when you get into year 3 and a guy still hasn't shown anything, that's when you make it an open competition for the job.
