It's the 80s all over again. Just wish we reaped more Lombardis when we had the chance. The team was friggin loaded but it didn't happen. That's on Rooney....This is about as bad as it gets. But this is bottom of the league bad so..
At least the games were usually fun to watch. They did cause heart palpitations but what I wouldn't give for a minor heart attack these days..We all knew this was coming...or at least I did. The team sucking and losing until Ben was finally freed up to make 4th quarter comebacks. Not always a win, but a valiant effort.
The defense definitely would be substantially better with Watt. Which begs the question - why are we paying the other 10 guys? This is very painful but required. I think the defense could be substantially better with Watt but you cannot win games with this offense. They score one TD a game. So I figure they fire Canada this offseason. Tomlin picks next OC and it's hard to think it will be good. They are roughly this bad next year and that's the end of the plague on this once great organization.
Or why are we paying the china doll so much money? Get him healthy and trade him for the draft picks we so desperately need. The defense definitely would be substantially better with Watt. Which begs the question - why are we paying the other 10 guys?
Last couple of years?!?!?!?!? The cool shades nonsense was front and center long before now. Those of us who saw it knew that this nonsense was coming. It was so obvious that we said something, just to find out that we are racist idiots. Now either we are no longer racist, or everyone else is. Not sure yet. The real fans haven't told me on facebook. You're probably right. Look at how this team was managed the past couple of years:
-Fully knowing they needed to upgrade an awful offensive line, they draft a running back and a tight end.
-Tomlin hired Matt Canada as OC and then kept him after a total failure in that role last year. It wasn't going to get better.
-They let a lame duck GM run this year's draft when the replacement was already in house.
-While keeping a bad OC, they didn't make any schematic changes to the offense.
-They had a farce of a QB competition that didn't prepare any of the QBs to have continuity with the receivers.
-They handed rookies starting jobs and kept them in the lineup while underperforming.
And apparently they're the highest-paid defense in the league. The defense definitely would be substantially better with Watt. Which begs the question - why are we paying the other 10 guys?

China doll?? All of a sudden Watt has a history of missing games due to injury??Or why are we paying the china doll so much money? Get him healthy and trade him for the draft picks we so desperately need.
Now you watch just to see how bad they out stupid themselves.
What???Or why are we paying the china doll so much money? Get him healthy and trade him for the draft picks we so desperately need.
Trade him for the draft picks they'll need to use to find a pass rusher who is half as good to replace Watt.China doll?? All of a sudden Watt has a history of missing games due to injury??
THIS is the franchise's worst nightmare. Once the old fans stop caring, the revenue and market cap fall precipitously. Before the game, wife and I drove to the next town to pick up some pizza. On the drive, we talked about the game, and how we figured it would play out.
We didn’t miss by much. It gets frustrating tuning in to the game, hoping for changes and some kind of breakout, and yet unsurprisingly nothing changes other than how low this franchise is sinking.
A few years back, I would have been pissed. These days, my expectations are pretty low so I watch and just kinda shake my head. This team used to be fun to watch. Now you watch just to see how bad they out stupid themselves.
I'm with Sarge. I'm a proud Gen X'er who barely remembers the 70's Steelers and suffered through the 80's. When Coach chin came onto the scene it was a magical time and I absolutely fell in love with his style of football. Tough. menacing. mean. Even when the Steelers lost you had gratification that they beat up the other team pretty badly. Now, this team that plays on Sundays, they no longer represent the city nor do they have an identity outside of being mediocre or just plain losers. I went for a hike on Sunday and about 3:30 as I was walking back to truck I asked Siri about the score and I chuckled at the result. Losers indeed.THIS is the franchise's worst nightmare. Once the old fans stop caring, the revenue and market cap fall precipitously.
The younger generations just are not as into the NFL.
So if Watt is healthy and playing what do we give up to the Eagles? 28 point instead of 35 points? This is a horrible defense with a great LBer on the team. When healthy he is disruptive....when he is healthy that is. He doesn't change the fact our defense sucks. Whether it is personnel or coaching is the question we should be asking. The defense definitely would be substantially better with Watt. Which begs the question - why are we paying the other 10 guys?
It's a very similar situation to the 80s.It's the 80s all over again. Just wish we reaped more Lombardis when we had the chance. The team was friggin loaded but it didn't happen. That's on Rooney....
My answer is the DC sucks. Every second he is given the nod over Flores is a fail. Just as much as giving Canada the reigns on the other side.So if Watt is healthy and playing what do we give up to the Eagles? 28 point instead of 35 points? That plus I tend to think that younger fans will only be fans when the team is winning. When they're losing they will find something else to do.THIS is the franchise's worst nightmare. Once the old fans stop caring, the revenue and market cap fall precipitously.

The problem, as I see it, is that most of the Steelers' problems seem to be self-inflicted. I honestly do not believe this team is this bad. I mean, it's one thing to have a losing season or whatever, but you can be competitive in the process. You will likely see improvements in some areas. But this team is regressing on both sides of the ball. You never know what you are going to get out of the defense as they have been terrible at times, awesome during the Bengals game, and pretty decent a couple times.Guys, this is one season. The Steelers have been competitive for almost 2 decades with one of the best QB's to ever play. Everyone knew we could be in for an extended period of suckness trying to find a new franchise QB plus this team has a lot of holes to fill and coaching deficiencies. KP still may be the guy. We really won't know for another year or two. You have to give him at least 3 years. I'm amazed at how many on here are already jumping ship after half a season. I'll keep looking for the good in each game knowing this team will be back and will win more Super Bowls. WE ARE THE STEELERS! WE ARE THE BEST FANS IN THE NFL!!!
In the presser interviews after the loss to the Eagles, there were at least 3, maybe 4 players agreeing with your assessment. And Kenny saying a lot of it was stupid, mental mistakes that shouldn't happen. The problem, as I see it, is that most of the Steelers' problems seem to be self-inflicted.
The Steelers do need some talent at some spots but they are definitely this bad because of bad coaching. They never had enough coaches - at least not compared to other teams. Either Tomlin didn't see the need or Rooney didn't want to pay for them. They can't bring in top coaches because everyone knows Tomlin runs pretty much everything - obvious by the lack of him having any coaching tree at all. Rooney still won't fire Tomlin for the reason some have mentioned. He has a free pass until he decides to leave on his own. I would absolutely shocked if Tomlin is fired in the next 5 years. So, nothing will change unless Rooney demands it from Tomlin or grows a pair and fires him.The problem, as I see it, is that most of the Steelers' problems seem to be self-inflicted. The offense has fallen off a cliff. The play calling has not changed in nearly four years in spite of the fact that it has proven ineffective repeatedly. Innovation in this offense is running a jet sweep with Sims instead of Claypool. Sure, the Steelers may still lose more games than they win, but I just don't understand the philosophy of rarely working the middle of the field, throwing 5 yards short of the sticks on 3rd & 8, and doing it over and over and over in spite of glaring evidence that it isn't working. And the HC says, "We're fine" and the OC thinks something "tremendous" is about to start happening with an offense that the entire NFL has figured out.
Hell, Geno Smith is doing well up in Seattle. Brissett is playing decent in Cleveland. Even Andy Dalton is playing decent football. You'll never convince me the Steelers can't be better than they are in pretty short order. Most of it isn't even hard to fix. And yet, here we are.
