Re-read your post t-man, Yes if you stop the run and pass and score lots on offense you will win. Like Seattle you will win the SB. But do you really think this team can do that? Plus watch Seattle tackle some time. they are ripping and stripping on virtually every tackle. Turnover ratio is the most proven correlated stat to victory, that is a fact. How many games did this team win last year when they weren't producing turnovers? How about the last 8 games when they were?
Listen, I'm not anti turnover, but I've just seen too many teams that have relied on it, and it bites you. This defense needs to stop the pass first, and force teams to run, then we need to show we can still stop the run. If we can't do BOTH of those things, we can snag a bunch of turnovers, hell, if we get a turnover once every 3 drives, but the opposing offense scores on the other two, I'm pretty sure we're ******. Additionally, we had a few turnovers last night, still came away with a goose egg on the scoreboard.
The Bengals thought they were better than they were when their defense bailed themselves out of some pretty ****** play by getting several turnovers. Problem is, if you face a good, and I mean a disciplined solid good fundamentals offense, you aren't going to get turnovers. And if you do, you're not getting as many as you are against a team that's playing with reckless abandon because they are down by 20 points.
I had hoped we were done with seeing defenders standing a yard from a completed pass constantly, and maybe we are, last night was a pre season game, and those guys aren't as fast as the first string guys, but man that 5-7 yard completions as the offense wants it gets old.
Anyway, I'll wait till the first few games before I decide if we have done enough to get this defense over the hump or not.
