Last year there was a play where the qb was hit and the defense stood there because they figured it was a forward pass and it was damn close. Tonight Keisel hits the qb and they all stand there until like 5 seconds later, Mitchell scoops the thing up as the refs look at each other. At my kids Peewee team we are constantly preaching, "Who's ball is it". If a coach drops a football on the ground they are like ravenous wolves on it. Lebeau has got to be a part of that. It should be without question. Contact on the QB, ball on the ground, you ****** pick it up, NO MATTER WHAT. That is utterly embarrassing football.

I would not be surprised if Lebeau was not infavor of that. It would also not surprise me if these idiots just forgot about it.

He is the defensive coordinator. That was unbelievably sloppy play. One guy doesn't move that is a single player. Five guys do nothing and that is a lack of attention to detail. Just because someone was great doesn't mean they get a pass forever. It trickles down from the top sure, but everyone shared the blame when the first team defense gives up a 60 yard drive that almost ends in a touchdown to a backup QB. This defense looks god awful. The game is evolving and I question if Lebeau can keep up. I respect him as much as anyone, but that is just terrible. Football players don't forget that. It should be drilled into their soul. Again, this preseason, you don't see the rip on the ball with the tackle that the teams with the high turnover ratio routinely do. It was exactly like this last season. People were all over the offense and gave the defense a big pass because they weren't giving up touch downs. They also produced zero turnovers in like the first 4 games. It is widely accepted in most football circles that turnover ratio is THE most important stat. How can you win that without any?

You don't need turnovers, because we won the Super Bowl 6 years ago. Sheesh, you guys and your expectations!

It is posts like this that don't "talk football" that have run off all of the good posters.....

A good defense stops the offense. Period. Turnovers are great, but they are also unpredictable, remember the year the bungles had all those turnovers and backed into the playoffs, guess what they didn't get enough of against us? Turnovers, and they lost. If you're counting on turnovers to win the games, you're banking on the wrong stat. Stop the run, stop the pass, score on offense. I have yet to see a team fail when they execute on those three things.

Re-read your post t-man, Yes if you stop the run and pass and score lots on offense you will win. Like Seattle you will win the SB. But do you really think this team can do that? Plus watch Seattle tackle some time. they are ripping and stripping on virtually every tackle. Turnover ratio is the most proven correlated stat to victory, that is a fact. How many games did this team win last year when they weren't producing turnovers? How about the last 8 games when they were?

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to ark steel again.

It's a football post. Maybe read it again.. ?

I see your point though. I apologize for poking fun at the "you're not a real fan" contingent.

yeah, it was 'talking football' just like all of the posts that are lamented for running off people.

Quite possibly your most informative post of the young season! Sadly it's also a carbon copy of the same post you've made 40-50 times on here.

Let me toss this out there as well, most of these kids have been playing football since grade school. Do you really think the coach should need to teach them that the ball is live and should always pick it up. That is akin to teaching these dumb-***** to run. Now it appears that they have just carried over the practice mentality of doing the least amount possible into the game. That maybe a spin off from what the collective bargaining has forced on the coaches by limiting contact.

You need help. Have a good day.

Listen, I'm not anti turnover, but I've just seen too many teams that have relied on it, and it bites you. This defense needs to stop the pass first, and force teams to run, then we need to show we can still stop the run. If we can't do BOTH of those things, we can snag a bunch of turnovers, hell, if we get a turnover once every 3 drives, but the opposing offense scores on the other two, I'm pretty sure we're ******. Additionally, we had a few turnovers last night, still came away with a goose egg on the scoreboard.

The Bengals thought they were better than they were when their defense bailed themselves out of some pretty ****** play by getting several turnovers. Problem is, if you face a good, and I mean a disciplined solid good fundamentals offense, you aren't going to get turnovers. And if you do, you're not getting as many as you are against a team that's playing with reckless abandon because they are down by 20 points.

I had hoped we were done with seeing defenders standing a yard from a completed pass constantly, and maybe we are, last night was a pre season game, and those guys aren't as fast as the first string guys, but man that 5-7 yard completions as the offense wants it gets old.

Anyway, I'll wait till the first few games before I decide if we have done enough to get this defense over the hump or not.

Dobres last post was specifically to you.

And I feel so bad for it.

I remember that he addressed me due to the 'sand in the vagina' comment or whatever it was and with regards to why an adult can't figure out how to use the Ignore function.

Other than that, who gives a ****?

so, we CAN blame ark for dobre and Del leaving.
******.

Turnover ratio is the single biggest variable in who wins and loses in the NFL .

No getty up and go in this team, lets be honest. No urgency on the field and I just don't get it. Went to training camp saw a couple guys get in the pushing match and a lot of talking any yelling, thought hey maybe they want some toughness in the Steelers, have not seen it the entire preseason. WHY WHY WHY??

Every high level of football in fact. I was at a coaches conference this spring. One of the keymotes wss a CFL head coach between jobs. He said he did a statisical analysis of NFL, CFL US and Canadian College over a five year period. It was clearly the most important statistical key to victory. If you were plus one in takeaway giveaway you had this percent better chance of winning. Now this doesnt mean that you can give up 500yds and time of posession and everythinv else and win with one extra turnover. But in a four game stretch if you are -4-5 you will be lucky to be 1-4. Guarenteed.
