I can't f'ing stand Ike Taylor!

No, he's not the best CB on this team. Gay is MUCH better, it's not even close. Hell, for as bad as Cortez Allen is, he isn't any worse than Ike. Ike doesn't suck because he's old, ENOUGH with the bullshit excuses. He sucks because he can't cover, can't tackle, acted like a freakin' moron taking a stupid penalty, and continues to do his "swag" bullshit.

Ike Taylor was NEVER great. At his very best, he was average. Steeler fans wanted him to be good so badly, they've been blinded to the reality of his garbage play for years. He has SUCKED *** for three full seasons.

Ike was tumbling downhill like a trash can on fire when he was 31-32. His problem isn't age, nor has it ever been.

Deshea in his prime > Ike in his prime
Deshea now probably > Ike now

Exactly Idioteque! I will never understand how this fraud was able to pull the wool over so many Steeler fans' eyes for so long. Ike is, and has been for a LONG time, terrible.

he sucked before he got hurt. but like a idiot. I was excited to get him back. Now that he is back, he still sucks... and we all know it.

It's November 30, 2014 and the following statements are still true:
-Ike Taylor and William Gay are our best CBs
-Heath Miller is our best TE
-Troy Polamalu is our best safety, either position
-James Harrison is our best pass rusher

And there is not a single other player on the roster at any of those positions that could be acceptable long-term starters once those guys are gone

Tombert has ridden the wave of the mid-2000s core for about 4 years too long. Not only does the defense need a makeover, but the scouting does too. I'm done with both of those clowns.

In his prime, Ike was great in coverage. Even against the best WRs he faced, he'd stay on their hip just about as much as most CB. But coverage is only part of the formula; the lack of ball skills was/is huge. I'm not just talking about his awful hands and lack of INTs. I mean his inability to even try to contest a ball in the air. You could have your receiver completely blanketed, but if you're not interested in even glancing at the ball (let alone trying to defend it), you're not going to have any success. NFL WRs are perfectly capable of catching a football - even in blanket coverage - when they're the only ones who notice it. And refs will flag you for interference when you play the receiver for 100% of the play.

Now, Ike is older/slower AND doesn't/can't play the football. Great.

Wow...Ike shut down the best WR on the opposing team for a few years with us...While he couldnt catch the ball few WR's would put up big numbers against him...Ike is just not that good any more....it is not his fault he is one of our better CB's on the team.

And on top of it Denver and New England needed a corner, both teams brought in good additions. Steelers needed a corner and brought in the lowest rated corner. A lot more ****** offseason moves.

Not only am I down with Tomlin exiting it is time to let Colbert go as well..........

Don't blame Ike that he's still the best CB on this team. Harrison is playing well but he's a shell of his former self. He's also the best the Steelers have. Don't blame guys for getting old. Blame the Steelers for failing at drafting replacements.

Agree. Ike is not as good as he used to be but he is not the worst problem the defense has. (The line and lousy pass rush is their worst problem.)

And James Farrior is still our best LB.

Not to mention letting Keenan Lewis go

Those two I can't blame the team for (Lewis and Sanders), and trust me, I can't stand Tomlin. But let's be fair, Lewis wanted to go home to New Orleans, and I don't think we could've done anything to keep him around. Sanders, while doing well with Denver, did nothing during his time in Pittsburgh. If anything, I'm still pissed we didn't take the 3rd rounder from New England for him. Wheaton/Sanders is a wash in my opinion.

I was all for letting Sanders walk. Even seeing his success now. He's excelling in an offense with multiple Pro Bowlers drawing tons of attention, while a pinpoint passer dumps him quick tosses. If he were still here, he'd be a 65-850-4 type of guy who drops balls and doesn't work hard to get open.

As for Lewis.. I was OK with letting him walk, because I assumed Cortez could step up. (The FO did, too, and we were both dead wrong.) However, while I was OK with letting him test the market, I was assuming he would command a silly contract. It was absurd that we never even offered him a deal, then after he signs very affordably elsewhere, we offer the SAME contract to Cortez a year later. The ****?!

Taylor
Troy should not be starting and only used as a lb until he retires
Deebo keep him until jarvis unseats him
Keisel done likely career ending injury
Cortez Allen stuck with him min 2 years until his cap hit is affordable, should restructure next year if not starting come gm 1, Cam Thomas worst DL I have seen, must go.
LeBeau??? hand it over to Butlet or let lebeau ride it for 1 year but with pressure from fo to have a strong D come 2015 season openor, should travel heavy with colbert to pro day's and and tell him he needs a CB @ SS that can cover.

see above

The D should be getting a makeover for 2015.[/QUOTE]

What evidence do we have that Tombert has a clue about how to evaluate and draft defensive players?

Granted, he had some terrible plays but he is partially responsible for shutting out Graham yesterday also. I saw Revis give up big TD to Nelson too. CB's can't be perfect all game. The lack of pass rush is the problem.

Gay is the best - but, I do believe the FO and coaching staff failed to get quality replacements when they had the opportunity over the past two years...

Taylor
Troy
Deebo
Keisetez Allen and Cam Thomas should be gone, too.
LeBeau???

Ziggy Hood, Cam Heyward, Jones, Shazier, Mitchell, Shamarko, Tuitt, etc. This defense has been getting a make over, and I agree Ike's act has gotten old, but it's no his or any of the other 30+ guys fault that the guys they are drafting can't un-seat them. that says more about the ****** drafting than it does about them as players

Lewis became our best CB in 2012. We opted not to offer him a market-value contract.

The ONE goddamn hit they had at DB, and they let him walk without an offer.

He wasn't that good until about midway through that season, so in the few seasons he was here he played half a season of good football. I wish he was here, but I can see why they didn't offer him anything, and I think there was more to that with the Saints. I still have no idea why they gave Allen money.

He said in an interview they just didn't offer him enough money. Allen and Lewis had pretty similar 3 yr stats but the Steelers had more cap room.
