If you were an NFL GM....

I want to remind everyone that in his case to be reinstated to the NCAA, he argued that he had an uncontrollable gambling addiction and thats a disease and this they couldnt suspend or expell him for it..

The NFL absolutely can because of a laundry list of precedence for an employer disciplining or terminating an employee for negative results from an addiction...

So you are risking something on a publicly admitted gambling addict... in a job where there is zero tolerance
Yeah I didn't know that piece. Even if he was better then 2 young guys they have which is highly debateable a 6th or 7th best. Id imagine that will be bid.

My early QB rankings for next year's draft:

Arguably top-15 potential (I want one of these guys):
Arch Manning
Dante Moore
Julian Saying
CJ Carr
Drew Mestermaker (not my favorite)

Late 1st/2nd Round potential (kind of admitting defeat, but grading athleticism high to maybe find diamond dual threat):
DJ Langway
Jayden Maiava (likely too old at 23 on draft day for me to like him)
Nico Iamaleave
Darian Mensah
LaNorris Sellers
Josh Hoover
Trinidad Chambliss

Big problem would be if both Manning and Saying decide to stay in school. I think that would artificially push up Langway possibly one of the others into 1st round discussion, which I'm not sold on right now.

Just Sayin, you spelled at least one name wrong...

I will say this. If Saying can prove to me he can play in cold weather. If his hand doesn't measure something silly like 8 1/2" or something. If he's not a "glove guy", then that's my target.

I think he and McCarthy could be VERY good for each other. I think Manning and Moore go #1 and #2 next year. Probably the Jets and Cardinals in the mix. Maybe Cleveland. Maybe another team. It would be tough to us to get either of them unless the wheels really come off this year.

We find a trade partner. Get where we need to get on draft day and sneak Saying at the right spot and I'm happy. I know he is undersized, but his frame is okay. He can get to 215 as he ages. And he has west coast style written all over him. And McCarthy could coach him up big time.

My expectations really depend on where we end up in the draft and who eventually comes out. Saying might just stay at school another year. Manning might refuse to come out if the Jets or Cleveland have the #1 overall pick. Who knows what happens.

He's about the same size Caleb Williams was when drafted. CW gained some weight in the NFL and is thicker now. I've read people who met him who think he's closer to 6'2". On3 said his hands measured 9.25" before his senior season in HS. He played pretty well vs. UM in the snow, too.

I need to see him play better vs. the best competition and use his legs more, interested to see what Arthur Smith can do for that offense. Brian Hartline did him no favors in his first and only season as an OC.

9-minute highlight reel, don't see the "wow" factor. A lot of nice runs, a lot of wide open receivers. Nice player, but don't get all the fuss.

He was a day 3 QB last year who analysts are projecting will develop into a round 1 QB this season. Moore and Manning are the only two guys who stayed in college who actually would've been first rounders in this past draft..

I think he is somewhere between Josh Allen, Herbert, and Ryan Tannehill. Which basically breaks down to potential decent ceiling and also a significant low floor element too. A high boom or bust to be more specific. Each team has to garner what that means to them in round designation. Then I think you subtract 1 to 2 rounds based off of his gambling concerns. I wouldn’t want the Steelers to take him before 5 and I presume teams might start to look hard at him come the 3rd round..

You should never watch any "highlight film" on youtube.

If you are curious, the way to search on youtube for any college athlete is to always search "NAME VS." and just leave it blank after that.

Search "Brandon Sorsby vs" and you will see two good game tapes. One vs. Iowa St. in 2025 and one vs. Texas Tech in 2024. Those videos will show you good, bad, ugly.

Never, never, never watch a "highlight" game on youtube and think you are watching a player. I would link to those videos but I'm not sure how that works here.

Even a blind Squirrel finds a nut I guess.
Must be lots of blind squirrels out there lately. Wyoming, Utah State, UNC, Cal, Louisville, Iowa State, and Texas A&M all have produced top quarterbacks currently playing in the NFL.

Or maybe it's the actual players who are important, not where they went to school.

Of course, but I wasn't trying to do an overall eval, I made it a point to look only at highlights in an effort to identify upside or traits, but just didn't see it. Reminds me of the kid from OU, Mateer, that everyone loved. Just seems meh.

Someone show me a wow play like this. He may be more polished than Allar overall, but when you're taking 3rd round and later fliers on QBs I want a dude with traits.

I am guessing the 5th my prediction.

Yep, some team will take the “gamble” on him.

If it’s the Steelers, I hope for a 6th or 7th.

I say pass, but I’ve seen a few stories out there saying here is a possible landing spot.

Salute the nation

The steelers are a "Potential landing spot" for virtually every damaged QB trade/sign/draft rumors since like 2019... those no nothing experts are always insinuating we are gonna make some huge splash move that doesnt really materialize.. lol

LSU, Ohio State, USC, and Oklahoma say hello. Both the player and program matter. I was highlighting that smaller schools rarely produce a starter let alone a HOF QB like Ben. Ben left Miami in 2004, 22 years ago. Here are the QB's since then. Out of all these Qb's, only 1 was drafted post Ben and he never started a down.

A big % of the “Manning” 1st round pick is the last name.

Arch needs this season to mature more in ability to merit the 1st round pick.

I could be expecting more due to the pedigree, but my short eye test seems justifiable.

JaMarcus Russell, the #1 overall pick from your #1 quarterback school, says hello. So do Dwayne Haskins, Mark Sanchez, and Sam Bradford.
,
You're listing Ohio State as a great QB developer? lol

Plenty of smaller schools have produced quality NFL starters recently. You seem to have overlooked that I listed many of them earlier, including:
Wyoming -- Josh Allen
Utah State -- Jordan Love
UNC -- Drake Maye
Cal -- Jared Goff and Aaron Rodgers
Louisville -- Lamar Jackson
Iowa State -- Brock Purdy
Texas A&M -- Dak Prescott

UNC and A&M aren't small colleges, of course, but they aren't recognized as quarterback factories, either. You can add Mahomes from Texas Tech to that list as well.

Mr. Sorsby, don’t let the door kick you in the asZ on you way out.

I think he will be eligible for the regular draft next year. He will just have to figure out a way to get those reps in. He should hire a trainer for the year clean up some of his mechanics..
