Initial Thoughts - Jets game

Line was poor. I have less faith than others it will fix itself. Meyer is a big issue. Running game is poor, but that goes back to the line. Not sure why Gainwell is playing so much. Warren was good enough to block on 3rd down last year and seemed to do fine. Boz should get his raise now and will only cost a couple million. 0 reason not to do it. Defense was lost. Fields could do what he wanted. The last play Fields should have ran. Ramsey at least showed up late with 2 clutch plays. DL and ILBs were real bad. Rodgers and crew looked good. Rodgers only threw one bag pass that is remember and I think he was attempting to throw it away. Wilson had a huge preseason would like to see him get more chances

This is no longer my initial thought but I just took a peek at the scoreboard across the NFL, so far...

Guess who scored the most points on offense so far???

Yeah, that would be the terribly coached Steelers. I don't think we've scored 34 points in a game since 7 was at the helm...and all those points were scored by the offense.

The Jets are not a good team. Fields is mediocre. And yet the Steelers defense was torched. As the season wears on, that will become more clear each week.

They supposedly took steps to address the embarrassing inability to stop opponent's running game and gave up 182 at more than 5 yards a pop. Giving up 182 on the ground and getting gashed again and again and again and again with the 2-4-5 look shows that the Steelers have more questions than answers.

We have talent on the OL and they cannot block for ****. Pat Meyer... ?????...WTF!!!
Jones had issues all game. No help was given to him. Sadly.

Run defense was AWFUL
Rodgers was solid and keep calling plays at the LOS
Boswell is great but he shouldn’t have to win games every week
Heyward is overpaid and slow
We have no good RBs?
This is why starters need to play more in preseason. This team still looks like they forget what time the game starts.

For a while, it looked like the Steelers D thought this was a playoff game. Terrible run D.

But Ayahuasca A-Ron was there to remind them that they could still make a few plays, got a TO and just enough O to win.

Thank heaven for Boz!

Love how people pick out one play or player and say that was why we won (lost) the game. It’s never about just one play.
I personally didn't like the pass down field(maybe because it was an imcompletion). I would have tried to get 5 or 6 yards and then kicked the FG. It worked out and Boz kicked a career long 60 yarder. And oir D made a stop. We take the win and move onto week two. Hopefully we learn from our failures of week one and improve. 🙂

Tomlin says Boz has " slow pulse".
Rogers played better than I expected.
We need an effective running game.

No way. He wasn’t supposed to do what he did today. Total fluke. Blah blah blah. 😎
I would never have guessed A A Ron would have had the game he had today. Thank our defense for this. If they did their job A A Ron would not have had to do what he did and Tomlin would not have asked him to do it.

if you are going to try that pass...it has to be to a bigger guy...

Or a guy open more. A A Ron wanted that pass...forced it. Can't complain on A A Ron's day though.

another thought. why were the Packers so interested in moving on from Rodgers? i get they had Love sittiing on the bench, but I think Rodgers i better today than Love.

Don’t want to dampen the enthusiasm and excitement of the win today but the Jets ran all over this football team today and the Jets are not a good team. Defense made Fields look like an elite QB out there.
The Jets OL without their talented guard Vera Tucker pushed the defense all over the field and Tomlin and his lackey Austin had no answer.
The offense was saved by the veteran Rodgers and his quick release and timely throws with little help from a porous OL and absolutely no running game.
Of course the always reliable Boswell once again delivered the winning kick.
This team is not well coached and it shows. Inability to make adjustments, some questionable offensive playcalling at times continue to plague this team.
The highest paid defense by a lot for four consecutive seasons sure resembled last years defense that collapsed the last part of the season.
Idk yet what to think! OL and DL so far concern me. Don’t know if you can fix Broderick Jones as he was raw coming out of Georgia and does not appear he’s developed one bit.
It was a win so don’t want to take away from that but this could get real messy as the season progresses.

Then the Jets scored the second most. Not good.

And guess who allowed the most points so far?

The Dolphins!…33

So we’re good!

We are watching preseason football. Look around the league and there's a lot of crap games. I was watching Giants vs Wash on a 2nd screen and that game was awful. Giants could do nothing and Was wasn't much better. Detroit's offense stinks. Denver is struggling vs the Titans. Bengals only managed 17 vs the browns. It's sloppy all over the place.

Preseason games used to mean something. Teams actually played starters and by week 1, they were pretty much ready to go. Now we have guys who have to check out of games because they're not in game shape yet. Of course not, because they don't play preseason anymore.

The NFL should outlaw joint practices. That's the problem. All these teams would rather have a scripted practice vs another team then rest starters in the game. It's NOT the same thing.

Arthur Smith is a good OC. He put together a gameplan and was able to call plays on a day when the OL couldn't block anybody.

The OL is garbage. I have no idea why the Steelers are obsessed with Broderick Jones playing LT. He wasn't great at RT. I think the steelers are just hoping that moving him to his alleged "natural" position at LT will jump start his career.

How long can they give Jones to get it? What's the alternative?

Benton showed promise as a rookie but he can't play NT. Try him out at DE because he's a liability inside. Black has to play. He'll make mistakes but at least he's a physical presence.

Harmon can't get back soon enough.

Patrick Queen is a waste. He made 1 play on a blitz at crunch time but other than that he's a pile jumper. He should be Shazier or Farrior but he's barely Larry Foote most games.

Jet's offense did absolutely nothing that was a surprise, except to Tomlin and Austin apparently.

can we run the damn ball..damn open a hole OL

where the hell is the defense

Passing game is decent. the WRs and TEs can make enough plays if the OL gives Rogers enough time

OL has to get better at run blocking

Defense has to stop the run much better than today

middle of the field was open all day for fields...wonder why he wasn't allowed to make those throws last year

defense finally makes a stand to end the game huge hit by Ramsey to stop the 1st down

Thank God for Boswell...damn he can kick
In the words of that great sportsman Yogi Bari it was “Deja vu all over again!!” Weren’t we here last year with this same sediments?? And the year before that and so on and so forth?

Here's the good news though. The defense will get better, and even with the OL playing like crap, this is already the best steeler offense since before Ben's arm was shot.

The Steelers put up 34 points with no run game and no time to throw. This team has huge upside this season.
